I would be extremely grateful for opinions and advice regarding the HP Envy 17.
(1) Firstly, I would like to know what is the screen quality like (both vertical and horizontal viewing angles, colours, whites, etc) on the following screens…
* Envy 17 (1600 * 900 resolution screen).
* Envy 17 (1920 * 1080).
* Envy 17 3D (1920 * 1080).
I received the new Dell XPS 17 laptop last week with the 1600 * 900, 17.3 inch screen, but unfortunately the quality of the LGD021D screen (in device manager, monitors, hardware Ids) is very poor and unacceptable for a "premium" laptop (very poor vertical and horizontal viewing angles, poor and unnatural looking colours, whites, etc). Therefore, I am going to return the XPS 17 for a refund and the only other laptop which I can see which might be suitable for me is the Envy 17. My other main laptop is a Dell Studio XPS 16 with 16 inch LED screen at 1366 * 768. I did not go for the higher resolution 1080p screen at the time as text, icons, etc would be too small to read easily. Device manager states it is the SEC5441 and the vertical and horizontal viewing angles, colours, whites, etc are all very good on the XPS 16 and I want something at least around this quality and preferably better!. It would also be useful if Envy 17 users could post their screen hardware Ids.
I would prefer the 1600 * 900 screen as increasing the DPI more than I currently have the Dell XPS 17 at (158%), might create/increase other problems which would then make it not practical to use, plus DPI does leave some text, icons, etc too small to read easily. I would also be grateful for any opinions on what I would need to set the DPI at if I were to get the 1920 * 1080 screen in order to get similar sized text, icons, etc. Would setting it that high create other problems to make it not practical as I would prefer to try to avoid having to change the DPI more than say 5 times a year after I set it up at the optimum amount.
(2) Finally, I really like using touchpads and much prefer using these over trackballs, mice, etc. Will I find the touchpad/touchpad buttons on the Envy 17 difficult to use as I am just used to the standard/normal buttons found on laptops.
Any and all opinions and advice will be greatly appreciated as if I were to buy the Envy 17 (which I would like to do), I would prefer to be reasonably confident that the screen and touchpad will be suitable for me. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Eh. the touch-pad on the envys are a little iffy at first. i personally like them more than normal ones. you just gotta get used to having no separate buttons. there are alot of tweaks to do to make them more work nicely. see the envy 14 owners lounge.

The HD panel on the 17 is excellent. My only complaint is that blues look a bit too "blue" if that makes any sense. The LED backlighting is very uniform and viewing angles are also superb. It is glossy though, which can be annoying. Engadget praised the laptop's display quite a bit on their review.
The touch pad, as stated, is finicky. But it allows literally for infinite customization. After setting it up to my liking I had zero complaints. -
Also, on the topic of the "overly blue," there is s color profile for download to fix this.
