After using my Envy 4 ultrabook for three and a half month, the laptop screen suddenly turned black while I was using it and I couldn't do anything but to hold the power switch for 5 seconds to power it off.

Now whenever I try to power it on again, the laptop just powers itself off after 1 second. The followings are the few things I tried, which still resulted in the same problem:

    - use only the battery (fully charged)
    - use only the power adapter (unplugged the battery cable)
    - removed both RAM (just to see if they are shorting the circuit)
    - removed the HDD connector (just to eliminate software issues)

Has anyone else experienced the same issue? (with either this or the Envy 6 ultrabook)

I will most likely have to bring it back to the retailer that I bought it from but just one more question - I have replaced the internal 500GB HDD with my own SSD (have already swapped it back now). Would doing so void the warranty for HP?

Had the same problem two weeks ago. I solved it by trying to power it on several times (gave a few minutes break between each try). It booted just fine after about 20 tries. I called hp and they told me that it was a hardware failure and that they'd repair my unit for free, but since I got mine up and working again I didn't send it over.

Same thing happened to me on my Envy 6t. I tried to power the stupid thing up who knows how many times. I tapped the bottom, begged, and pleaded with it. No luck. I didn't want to remove the bottom case for fear that I might break a clip and HP deny service, so I sent it in. When I got it back, all they did was "re-seat components". And replace my keyboard, but that was an already existing issue :).

Ok so I am not the only one experiencing this. Have had good experiences with HP laptops in the past so I really didn't expect things like this would happen given that the laptop is only 3 months old (and I am not the only one either). :(

I have already tried powering it on for not sure how many times now but it's still not working. I called up HP and they will send someone to pick up the laptop. Let's wait and see what they say the issue is with mine.
