    Hello Marinebio444,
Congrats on ur new envy.. I am very much interested in this sleeeeeek book lineup...

I am waiting for ur review. Please mention your config and also some high res pics of the envy...if possible please take a video review.. I am more concerned about the operation of windows ( 1.6GHZ proc) and also HP is known for hot laptop bases.. dunno how good coolsense is working .. did u take the laptop with mSSD or reg HDD or SSD ? I am also concerned abt the fan speed and the temperature at various points of the base of the book.

Did you get the version with discrete AMD 7670m GPU, or integrated graphics only?

I got the discrete graphics model; a little more money, but definitely worth it in my opinion.

I just received my sleekbook 6t today as well...I popped in a Win7 Ultimate x64 disk to reformat (So much damn bloatware) but when I was asked to select which partition to install the new Windows in, it states that no drives were found...

How is the screen? i know 1366x768 is historically awful, and I don't expect HP to have bothered with a high quality display of that low resolution, but a general report on it would be nice.

I've been considering similar laptops for some time now (lenovo u400, sony SA series), and the running trend among these ultralights seems to be crap displays. I don't demand full sRGB or adobeRGB coverage, but something about 150:1 contrast and 250 cd/m2 brightness would be brilliant.

Performance is likely to be stellar for the class one way or another, but I assume the 7670 is a ddr3 unit like reports have indicated? Other question that has been floating around is upgradeability, as in how accessibly is the HD bay? What height drive with it accept? Is memory easy to upgrade as well?

I can only guess that the bottom panel is a rubberized plastic, not any kind of metal?

Do a minimal restore, this cuts out most of the bloat ware without all the hassle.

I haven't had the time to delve into the inner workings (hard drive/battery/graphics/ram upgrading) because I'm not really interested in that kind of upgrading. But in terms of the screen, I'm coming from a native 1440x900 17" monitor set by my family at 1280x1024. So to be perfectly honest, the screen feels amazing by my standards, haha. Of course, other people who want a full HD display will probably be disappointed, but it's absolutely brilliant in my eyes. Only issues I have are when it's late and I'm just browsing in my bed without contacts when my eyes are tired.

And yes, performance is absolutely amazing. Again, coming from a family desktop that needed a good 5 minutes before you were up and running at full power, the clocked 17 second boot time is extremely quick, as is general function.

No the Envy 6t does NOT have a built in DVD-Drive. It can use USB drives as needed. The 6t model with the Radeon 7670M will handle mid range games, I have been playing SWTOR and Diablo 3 on mine with medium settings and so far no issues.

It runs whenever it is being pushed by doing more than web surfing but doesn't seem overly noisy when compared to my other laptops.

I compare it with my old Dell D630. Although D630's fan runs more often than 6t, it is less noisy or loud. The body of 6t is cool except the upper left part where the CPU and WLAN card are. So I have to use a cooling pad and just locate the fan underneath that part. But when the fan runs, it is still high in pitch. I like the overall design of the machine but I may return it b/c of the fan. Do other Envy laptops have the same issue?

Thanks! I would expect that b/c all you other laptops are more powerful than 6t :) 6t falls in the ultrabook series(though it is not seriously speaking), so I expect a quiet machine. Maybe I set the bar too high...

Do you think it would help if replacing with a better/more quiet fan?

Hey guys i am considering to buy HP Envy 6. I am a resident doctor, mostly my work with laptop is limited to reading ebooks, surfing internet and am huge audio fanatic. I use computer pretty much 8hrs a day.
I was wondering if u guys cud clear me on following things
    1. How much is battery backup... officially it says around 8hr but i doubt what ever is official
2.Also Hp laptop have problem with cooling whats the status with this one
3.How good is screen display, this very imp for me as i read most of my books(yeah im not into hd display for videos neither do i play games).. dont wanna end with headache & eye strain

hope someone clears it out for me..

also whats with the t.. i noticed on Hp US site it says Envy 6t... sorry im newly into laptop so pls ignore my ignorance :)

    1. Around 5 hours and a half.
    2. The upper left corner is kind of hot but you won't feel it unless you put it on you lap. The HDD part is a little bit warm but that's the case with all hard disk, All the other parts are really cool.
    3. The display is mediocre. If you read a lot, I would recommend a higher resolution display 1600x900 or above. An IPS display might be better b/c it has a wide view angle. But why don't you read on the e-ink ereader? That's better for eyes.

Last, 6 is the same as 6t. The OP just skip "t". :p

hey thanks man for quick reply.. appreciate it
    5.5 hr isnt bad,
cud u suggest other options for laptop i have:
as i said i read a lot.. abt 5-6hrs a day on lp
and need a good back up time for my reading 4-5 hrs is cool
checked the eink readers.. i dont think u can annotate pdfs in them plus the i have few kindle books but they r aweful, i 'd rather go for the pdf with original layout as printed books esp when books run into thousand of page in print version..
also dont the backlit LED's have good viewing angle
    thanks again

The Sony Ultrabook I have has the fan running constantly - much worse than the 6T. The worst laptop I have for fan noise is the XPS 17 - it sounds like a jet engine running. I think, based upon the ultrabooks I have tried (Samsung Series 9, XPS 13, Acer S3, Toshiba Z835 - Yes I change laptops constantly) that the 6t is one of the better ones for noise.

One thing though - I was pushing it really hard last night playing SWTOR and it did get quite hot around the top left of the keyboard. Not too hot to touch but hot enough to be uncomfortable. I was running on medium settings on a busy server - so it was working quite hard.

Regarding the fan - it is easy enough to open the 6T up - I opened it and replaced the ram with 8GB as soon as I received it - you could repalce it if you find a suitable replacement.

HP usually uses the "T" to indicate Intel based models, the AMD versions will not have the "T"

Then I would recommend the incoming Asus Zenbook prime UX31A. Light, thin, long battery life, 1080p IPS display, 13.3 inch.

Lol don't get me wrong, I got a 6t coming to replace my dv6 but unless there are some major leaps in laptop cooling technology in the next few months I don't see playable frame rates with a ulv processor pushing 1080p in an ultrabook form factor while staying cool.
