It's pretty hard to come by any information on this laptop so I thought I would start a new thread!
    I just ordered:
    HP ENVY 6t-1200 Ultrabook
    • midnight black
    • Windows 8 64
    • 3rd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3517U + Radeon(TM) HD 8750M Discrete-Class Graphics w/ 2GB DDR3
    • 15.6" diagonal HD BrightView LED-backlit Display (1366x768)
    • 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 System Memory (1 Dimm)
    • 500GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive
    • 32GB mSSD Hard Drive Acceleration Cache
    • Microsoft Office Trial
    • No additional security software
    • 4 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    • No Internal DVD or CD Drive
    • Backlit Keyboard
    • HP TrueVision HD Webcam with integrated dual array digital microphone
    • 802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R)

Total price was $894.99 (939.73 after tax)
The student discount brought it down to 841.29 (hps HPA program)
there was a 50 instant rebate bringing the total to 791.29
I used coupon code campus176 for 100 off bringing the total to 691.29
After tax, the total was 725.85
I then had second thoughts after lusting over the lenovo y400 so i started a live chat to cancel the order at which time they offered me a $50 partial refund to keep my order.
This brings my total to 675.85 all inclusive! roughly $263.88 off!!!

My only concern is the low resolution screen... But great deal i think!!

How has your experience been? Does the screen meet your expectations?

I have been looking for information about this model and the 4t-1200. (Basically for the 8750m). Once you get the laptop, let us know how it performs! I would be interested in its gaming performance :)

Unfortunately its not marked for shipment until march 5th so it may be a while before I get it.

As for the performance, this should give you a decent idea.

    Oh howcome? What happened?

Also I came across this set of videos of the 6t with 8750m. jin man Park - YouTube . This model is from Korea it seems and it has a full 1080p screen. I wish HP offered more screen resolution choices for the 6T and 4T in the US.

Good find! i too wish HP offered better screens; if i find out about a 4t model overseas with a higher resolution screen, I'll probably be buying one of the screens and trying to install it myself. i've been searching for an aftermarket screen that may work but haven't come across one yet =/.

The envy 4t, being smaller simply fit my needs better. Also being a smaller screen with the same resolution, it'll also hopefully look a bit nicer.
Whenever I get it i will do a full review, which should give some good insight into the 6t as well since they are so similar. =)

I purchased the last envy 6t 12XX with 8750m graphic card and swapped the screen with a 1080p fhd panel (B156HW03 V.0). It works but not properly, it is really hard to read what is displayed on the screen. I think I have to change the display cable with a 2ch lvds cable but I can't find the part number for this cable. The manual mention the display assembly part number which include the cable but the display cable is not sold separately. Then I just ordered the display cable from the dv6 7300 which is quite the same as the envy 6. Wait & see.

Awesome, i hope to do the same with my 4t.
That looks to me like a bad screen.. but i could be wrong. keep us posted!
if you open it back up could you take a picture of how the display is hooked up? where the cable input and output is located, etc.

I do not think the screen is deffective because I'm sure my laptop has a 1ch lvds cable which is not adequate for 1080p use. That's why I have to find a 2ch lvds cable. The part number for the dv6 7300 cable is 682057-001 (for intel processor with switchable graphic) and would be 682055-001 for other configurations.

I will post more pictures on how is hooked up the display assembly tonight.

    AUO B156HW03 V.0
    Max resolution : 1920x1080
    Viewing angles : 70/70/60/60
    Contrast ratio : 500:1
    Color gamut : 60%
    Brightness : 300cd/m²

    CHIMEI INNOLUX N156BGE-LB1
    Max resolution : 1366x768
    Viewing angles : 45/45/20/45
    Contrast ratio : 500:1
    Color Gamut : 45%
    Brightness : 220cd/m²

So the new screen is theoreticaly better as you can see :)
In fact it is really hard to make worse screens than the chimei one lol

If you want to compare with a slim IPS screen :

    LG LP156WF4-SLB6
    Max resolution : 1920x1080
    Viewing angles : 80/80/80/80
    Contrast ratio : 400:1
    Color gamut : 60%
    Brightness : 250cd/m²

Honestly, who watch the screen up to 80 degrees ?

You can't replace the cpu or the graphic card since they are soldered to the system board. But if you are talking about the fact that you already have the first envy 6 with a HD7670m and want to replace the motherboard with a newer model which contain the cpu and HD8750m, I don't know if it will fit. HP does its best for people not to upgrade their computer, then I would not be surprised if the screws locations are a bit different.

Actually I just replaced ram and the hdd and the msata ssd by 2 crucial m4 256gb (sata and msata). I didn't try to do a raid0 because I remember I tried it on the previous model and the laptop couldn't boot anymore. It was really hard to restore the system since none of the ssd were detected anymore.

Bad news, the display cable has changed from the envy 6 1100 to 1200. Then I couldn't hook the cable up unless I cut the top of the plug. Anyway the screen does not work when I boot the laptop. On the left you can see the cable from hp dv6 7300, it is not as large as the native cable.

    photo.jpg

The 1ch lvds cable is made by a firm from Taiwan (Wanshih). I contacted them and asked the part number for the 2ch lvds cable, and if they could sell 1 sample, we never know lol.

    VBU50_1CH_LVDS_CABLE
    P/N : DC02C004C00
    2012/12/03

Edit : I finally ordered the display assembly with fhd screen (part number 712246-001). I'm not even sure the lvds cable is included, but I suppose so, otherwise why would they sell hd and fhd display assembly without any cable ? Considering they give the webcam, cable and antenna for wifi it would be nonsense they don't give the display cable too. I contacted so many people at HP customer service via chat support but they are not qualified for giving me the information, and my english speaking is not good enough to talk with a technician by phone. I just hope i'm not wasting my money but it's worth trying. If the display assembly does not contain the cable I get no more option until we can find used spare parts in a few month.

In fact there would be the last option : buying the envy 6 in belgium which include the 1080p screen but not the 8750m, and then swap the parts with my laptop ...
I think HP only offer the fhd screens in few countries because they are not able to support demand.

    I just received the display assembly. From now I can tell I have a 1080p envy 6t 1200 :)
The 1080p screen provided by HP is an ips screen (LG LP156WF4 SLC1) but I prefer the AUO B156HW03 V.0 then I still swapped them.

For those who would like to upgrade their screen you just have to order that part : 712246-001
But take into consideration that the upgrade is not that easy, you have to disasemble the whole laptop.
I couldn't make a tutorial because it's a bit complicated to explain and quite long.

I'm thinking of attempting a similar upgrade with the 4t, any guidance as to where you ordered the part from?
Do you know what the max resolution was for the built in display? could you have gone up to 1600x900 without the new cable?
    I'm envious, congrads!

The envy 4 has no option with 1080p screen. And it seems the motherboard is not the same as the envy 6, then I think you won't be able to upgrade the screen (but I'm not sure about that).
But if I'm wrong, and the motherboard is similar to the envy 6, then there will be only one way to upgrade your screen. You should buy the fhd display assembly from envy 6 for the 2ch cable.
    I can't help you more sorry :)

The max resolution with the 1ch lvds cable is 1366x768, you absolutely need a 2ch cable for better resolutions.

Unless I can find a picture to confirm, im going to disassemble mine to confirm the cable you used will work for me. If that is the case there is this 900p display made by the same company as the original, the140fge-l31 that I plan to try as well as a few others that are higher quality but made by a different company. The demensions are right, the pin configuration matches your screen, and so as long as the cable is the same I see no reason why this wont work for me =)
    Any thoughts?

In fact the envy 4 and envy 6 use slim panels. You have to find the same thickness.
The reason why it may not work is maybe in the case that the bios does not support full hd screens. You could not upgrade the screen on previous envy 6 10XX and 11XX, but I don't know if it was a bios or cable issue. If the envy's 4 motherboard is the same as the envy 6, then it will definitely be possible to upgrade the screen, otherwise I don't know :)

Edit : I made a mistake on the screen size, I thought it was a 14.5" screen and it is 14". the n140fge-l31 you mentioned is right.

Here is a list of several 14" screens :

    Chimei Innolux N140FGE-L31
    Max resolution : 1600x900
    Viewing angles : 45/45/20/45
    Contrast ratio : 500:1
    Color gamut : ?
    Brightness : 200cd/m²
    Signal class : 2ch lvds 6bits
    Outline depth : 3.3/3.6 mm
Holes & brackets : Face mounting holes on up and down side slugs

AUO B140RTN02.2 (you can"t find it on ebay but maybe the B140RTN02.1 is the same model ?)
    Max resolution : 1600x900
    Viewing angles : ?
    Contrast ratio : 400:1
    Color gamut : 45%
    Brightness : 300cd/m²
    Signal class : 1ch lvds 6bits
    Outline depth : 3.6 mm
Holes & brackets : Face mounting holes on up and down side slugs

    LG LP140WD2-TLG1
    Max resolution : 1600x900
    Viewing angles : 65/65/55/55
    Contrast ratio : 600:1
    Color gamut : 45%
    Brightness : 300cd/m²
    Signal class : 2ch lvds 6bits
    Outline depth : 3.6 mm
Holes & brackets : Face mounting holes on up and down side slugs

    LG LP140WD2-TLD4
    Max resolution : 1600x900
    Viewing angles : 45/45/15/35
    Contrast ratio : 350:1
    Color gamut : 45%
    Brightness : 250cd/m²
    Signal class : 1ch lvds 6bits
    Outline depth : 3.6 mm
Holes & brackets : Face mounting holes on up and down side slugs

    LG LP140WD2-TLE1
    Max resolution : 1600x900
    Viewing angles : 70/70/60/60
    Contrast ratio : 400:1
    Color gamut : 72%
    Brightness : 250cd/m²
    Signal class : 1ch lvds 6bits
    Outline depth : 3.4 mm
Holes & brackets : Face mounting holes on up and down side slugs

As you can see some of these screens need a 1ch lvds cable, this would mean that you can use them whatever your envy 4 model is. I don't know if it is a mistake though.

The screens I am looking at have the same thickness as well. I'm using panelook.com to compare display models and finding one that matches the same specs.
Ive never heard of locking down the resolution at the bios level but i would not put it past hp with everything else they blacklist..

I do not think it would be a restriction on the max resolution, but on the compatible devices. Whatever, take a look on my previous post. It looks like there are some screens that only need a 1ch lvds cable.
This means it is (maybe) possible to upgrade the screen on envy 4 10XX 11XX and 12XX without changing the cable.

Edit : I can see that the envy 4 and envy 6 share the same bios. Then it may be possible to use the 2ch lvds cable from envy 6 on envy 4 too.

I would be really happy if you can upgrade your screen :)

im gonna see about getting the LVDs cable straight from HP instead of buying the entire assembly. I can't justify spending 300 bucks for a 600 machine.. Even if i can resell a good portion of it.
Alternatively i may just through a nicer, possibly non glossy low res screen in there,

Just to follow up, the model and product number of ths envy 6 is HP ENVY 6-1250eb Ultrabook (PN: D4L04EA)
I spoke with HP support, and they informed me that HP US and HP Be/UK do not share the same database of product numbers; I will ahve to call Belgium support and obtain the product number. I will then have to call back up US support and hope that they use a cable with the same product number in an existing US Model so that they can send it to me; otherwise buying the entire assembly is our only option at the moment.
Belgium support is closed at the moment; so im on standby for the weekend.
The number is 44-084-4369-0369 if anyone else feels like giving this a go.

You can buy the 1ch cable separately because it is the same as the 10XX and 11XX models, and it is mentionned in the manual (part number : 686592-001 for envy 6 and 686576-001 for envy 4). I thought the cable changed on the envy 6 1200 because another user on this forum said so, but it was not true. HP support in the US and Europe use the same database, in fact they read the maintenance guide too when you ask them a part number. All the technical informations they have can be found on HP's website. They are just not aware of the existing models in foreign countries because of the language. People at HP's are only competent with basic users. The only persons who know where to obtain the 2ch lvds cable are the ones who fix your computer when it's broken (And I'm pretty sure they only have the display assembly and not the cable separately). In Europe, your laptop is not repaired by HP but a subsontractor who fixes laptops for several firms, I think it is the same in the US. But they will never sell any part to you. In Europe it is almost impossible to find spare parts from HP store unlike the US. Sometimes you can find it from their resellers if you are lucky.

You can only buy the display assembly with 2ch cable in HP part store in the US, maybe they plan to sell fhd envy soon, I don't know. You can also find it on dectrader.com, but they also buy it from hp part store (I asked them to add it to their catalog, that's why). Then I think you should contact a HP "pre-sale specialist" instead of the customer support. But I really doubt they will be able to do something for you.
HP Parts Store - HP Computer Parts, HP Printer Parts and HP Compaq Parts

Right now the only place where you can find it separately is the factory in Taiwan, or the assembly line in China.

I previously had an envy 6 10XX that I bought in France, but no backlit keyboard. Then I tried to buy a backlit keyboard from Belgium because they are quite similar (692759-A41). Nobody could tell me where to buy it even if I had the part number ...
Now I have a have a backlit keyboard from Belgium for the envy 6 1200 that I purchased to a reseller (698680-A41). I asked them where they found it, and they told me the keyboard is a stock from the factory.

Can somebody tell me his score on the index performance for the CPU ? (I have a i5 3337u). After unmounting my laptop, the score has been lowered to 6,3. And now that I have changed the thermal paste my score is 6,9. If I remember, the score should be 7,1.
    Am I right ?

I've got a similar 6T-1200 on order now in the U.S. It would be great to have a full HD display. How well is yours running? Has it had any impact on the battery life? Are you running windows 8? Thanks for you feedback. I'm thinking of upgrading the ram, msata and/hdd. but not sure which will give me the most bang for the buck. Any suggestions?

I ordered the fhd panel assembly including the cable and IPS panel. The panel is really great, but I prefered another panel which is not IPS but with really good viewing angles and better brightness, contrast etc.
I could run windows 8 but be aware that if you want to use UEFI instead of Bios Legacy you will need the same windows 8 copy as the one who is originally coming with your laptop.

That's interesting. I'm going to wait and see after I receive my laptop. I really like the idea of having a HD display on it. Are you running Windows 8 or Windows 7? If it is WIn 7 did you have any difficulty in finding all of the drivers? I've seen a couple of posts on other sites of people who have had problems getting Win 7 to run.

I use windows 8, but if you want to install windows 7 in your case, don't forget to desactivate the cache acceleration through intel rapid manager, and put the bios in legacy mode. However you won't be able to install the graphic drivers on windows 7 with the envy 6 12XX.

Hey I've been really interested in this post. I want to make my envy 6 's screen hd its just that there is a lot of data on this post and I get lost in all of it. Can someone summarize basically these things...
    1. What models of 1920 x 1080 screens are compatible with the envy 6.
    2. Im confused on the cable attachment. Is it necessary to buy a new compatible attachment for the cable and if so what is the name of it and how can I get my hands on it.
    3. will there be issues with the bios if I am running windows 8 but on a new os install?

Hey Guys, Have anyone tried this before with their Envy 4 Sleek book. Using Cache SDD for main OS and HDD as external drive.

I have an Envy 4 Sleek book. Original specs are Intel i5, 32 GB cache SSD & 500 GB HDD. I got rid of both of them and upgraded. Currently I replaced the 32 cache drive to a Samsung 256 GB mSata SSD to boot OS Win 7. It boots EXTREMELY fast (3 second boot with 16 GB RAM). Now that works seamlessly, but the issue I have now is that instead of the 500 GB HDD, when I try to use the 1TB HDD as a secondary drive or use it as backup drive it will boot up with the error "no bootable device found.' Now if I unplug the the HDD, it will boot up normal. I have already formatted it as NTFS, still no luck. Anyone tried this before?? Thanks in advance!!

So did anyone actually get this part number. Partsurfer set to Belgium still lists 686592-001 as the only display cable. It would be get if somebody could get a source on one of these. Buying an entire display is out of the question for me.

I have 6z-1100 and I am also trying to upgrade my pathetic 1366x768 to 1920x1080. Regarding the 2ch cable, DELL XPS 15z uses AUO B156HW03 V.0 and "0N6MMX DD0SS8LC010" is the 2ch LVDS cable for it (see the link below).

DELL XPS 15Z LAPTOP LCD LVDS cable DD0SS8LC010 fit FHD 1920x1080 0N6MMX

Can we use this to replace 686592-001? Anyone can confirm this?

Thank you so much in advance!

Then which cable did you use to replace 686592-001? I am a bit confused that 686592-001 doesn't seem to be connected to the system board, but to the webcam. However, the Dell cable seems to be connected to the system board?? I am waiting to receive my 6z-1100 from the service, so I cannot tell much before I receive and open it up.

Okay, I think I found a dual channel LVDS cable which is compatible with 686592-001. I found that Aspire-E1-531 uses an LVDS cable (part #: 50.M08N2.005) similar to 686592-001. Then I looked for Aspire laptops which support FHD, and found Aspire-V3-571G, which uses 50.M03N2.004 LVDS cable.

    New Gateway NV56R LCD LED Cable 50 M03N2 004 | eBay

Dell DD0SS8LC010 does not have any webcam cable, but Acer (or Gateway) 50.M03N2.004 seems to have an extension socket for webcam. Can anybody comment on this?
