I am very close to taking the plunge on a HP Envy 14 laptop but I have a very serious concern about the keyboard and trackpad. I assume that the materials used for the keyboard and trackpad of all Envies are the same.

Are the keys on the keyboard and the trackpad known to be susceptible to wear from oil from the fingers and palms? It's something that's extremely annoying to me and can be a deal breaker for me. I currently own a Sony Vaio and an older HP dv3000 and the keyboards both do not show wear. If the Envy keyboards do, then is there perhaps some cover for it?

I'm deciding between whether getting an Apple Macbook Pro (w/ the Moshi keyboard cover) and the HP Envy 14. This is basically my last criteria before I give my money again to either company.

    Thanks!

This is a good questions that you should ask in the owners lounge.

Am I allowed to ask this in each of the Envy lounges?

There's only 1 Envy 14 lounge. Give it a shot.

Also, check the 1st page of the Envy 14 lounge. There's a reviews and info.

But to ask your question, it's a rare computer whose keys do not wear over time. But HP computers have been pretty good in this regard. They will shine up a bit over time though as with the majority of notebook keyboards. Trackpad durability cannot be determined yet since the Envy line is not even a year old yet.
