Hi there,
I recently purchased a HP Envy 6-1110US from a well known online auction site and I am having some issues with the fan speed.
If fan always on is enabled in the BIOS the fan spins constantly at full speed - which is very loud. The temperatures of CPU 0 in Hwinfo64 are between 38°C at idle and 62°C under load which seems reasonable.
If fan always on is disabled in the BIOS the fan spins on for a few seconds when the power button is pressed but then switches off until CPU 0 temperature reaches around 56°C. It then spins at full speed until CPU 0 reaches around 38°C before switching off again. When at idle CPU 0 sits at around 42°C with the fan switched off.
As I am writing this the CPU 0 is at 44°C and the fan is on full speed.
There is also the CPU 0 Package temperature reading which is very high - between around 88°C at idle and up to around 110°C at load. I assume this is an incorrect reading or the fan speed is not linked to it - if it were then the fan would never stop even when fan always on is disabled in the BIOS.
I have BIOS version F.13 (interestingly only F.12, F.15 and F.17 are listed on HP's support page) http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers...UA&ssfFlag=true#Z7_3054ICK0KGTE30AQO5O3KA30R1
My questions are:
1. Does anyone know if F.17 still has the option to disable fan always on? Has anyone tried it? I don't want to update if this option is removed.
2. Do any of the BIOS versions listed on the support page above have a more sensible fan speed algorithm which is not either full speed or off? (my dv6 for instance has fan always on at a very low speed and has 3 or 4 different speeds depending on temps).
3. Do my temperatures look okay? Even the high CPU 0 Package temp?
I really would like to resolve this issue - reviews of the Envy 6z commented how quiet it was!
The system has the AMD A8-4555m and 6GB RAM rather than 4GB listed in HP's specs.
Many thanks!
