Does anyone know how to program the buttons on this little remote that fits in the express card slot? I want to be able to open iTunes with it but can't figure out how to do it. Just thought I would ask.

Are there drivers for the remote if you downgraded from vista to xp?

Only the volume works on mine, not a big deal, but would like to restore the functions

The remote is actually an extension of the keyboard; press a button and the OS thinks that you hit the corresponding key. You could probably find some program that would let you bind actions to keypresses of the multimedia keys.

I believe that remote is specially made for the HP DirectPlay feature. Of course, it doubles with some features when you are booted into windows.

did anyone notice that the remote that comes with vista acts differently then the remote that came with XP on the DV6000. I have both but seems like the XP remote has less functions on VIsta , I hoped to have a sapre remote but they seem to be different other then just colors.

I believe that the OS sees the remote control buttons as keyboard events. (And the BIOS boots Quickplay when it detects the QuickPlay or DVD buttons being pressed.) Once the Quickplay program is running, it just intercepts the keyboard events and acts accordingly.

Since you're running Linux, go to a terminal and run "xev". Focus the window that pops up, and press a few buttons on the remote and you will see that you get keyboard events. (Assuming that your keyboard is configured correctly in X.)

The HP remote just doubles what the Quicklaunch buttons do. As soon as HP release a driver that includes an editor for the quicklaunch buttons, then you can program it to open iTunes, and your remote will do that.
