What software did your HP ship with? Check the HP website for your model and see if there are any updates for it. If its Digital persona, then there should be an update to enable it to work with FF but you might be out of luck with Safari and other browsers however.

I downloaded the DP update, but at least on my FF installation, this was very unstable. First of all, it interfered with my downloads, and then it would only identify the logons ~10% of the time in FF. So I just disabled the FF plugin. I hope someone else who is having it working flawlessly could guide me what I could do to correct it?

Don't buy the update to digitalpersona 4 on their website, it doesn't make anything better.... What a crappy company...

i have digital persona 3.0.1 and now they have 3.1.0 or something like that which adds FF support. it just made the fingerprint reader useless except for logging into windows. i did a system restore and now its back to 3.0.1 that just works with IE. i cant wait until they come out with another update to fix it.

the update on HP's website screws it up royally that only a system restore or complete OS reinstall with fix.

After installing the update, my CPU usage jumped to 50% constantly and if I right clicked on the DP agent it would crash.

Does the fingerprint reader prevent the wrong people for activating the computer? OR does it prevent the wrong poeple from using programs like IE?
Also does fingerprint reader come wiht its own program in a CD or is it built in? B/c when I get my dv5t I was going to reformat it....

Hmm...Interesting never had any problems doing the upgrade. I have upgraded my tx2500z to 3.1 and I had to uninstll the old version(3.0) and then reinstall version 3.1 and re enroll my fingerprints.

You should be able to download it from HP's website and its also included in the SWSetup folder. It can be used to lock your PC as well as other programs.

Is it free on HP's site? Or would I have to have brought it with the laptop?

    Hi!
I have noticed some problem with DigitalPersona (3.1.0.3276) on my HPdv4 with Vista x64.
After updating Validity Fingerprint Sensor Driver from 1.3.1.183 to 2.0.0.1 DigitalPersona stoped recognise laptop's build-in fingerprint reader.
I have changed it back to older drivers and everything is working fine.
Anyone experienced similar problems with new drivers?

    Thanks
    zaabluc
