    Hi,

I am repairing a laptop for a friend. They had lost the charger but had a universal one for it which they couldn't find either. I got it powered up with a Targus universal adapter I had laying around my office and the caps lock light was flashing once to signify a CPU failure. I managed to find a replacement CPU but then after I changed it (and removed a crazy amount of dust) I hadn't put the battery back in and it booted up fine. Once booted up I put the battery back in but it wouldn't charge. I thought this was because of the none genuine HP charger so I found a replacement on ebay but that won't power the laptop on! all the same led's come on at the DC input but it won't power up! has anyone else experienced this before?

I think now its either the battery or the charging circuit is fried but I don't want want to go spending lots of money if there could be something else causing the problem and I am baffled at why it will only run with the Targus adapter and not the genuine one!

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated

    Thanks in advance,

    Sam
