I'm thinking about buying a G6 and I'm just wondering, if I should have any reservations about the build quality of the laptop or anything else in general? Any difference in the build quality of the G6-series and the dv-series?

I had a G7, now have a G4 and have used/handled the G6 and dv6. IMO the dv series feels sturdier mostly due to the aluminum. The G7 has a bit of flex, but that is less int he G6 and again even less in the G4. The flex made the G7 feel cheap, but the smaller G's feel studier due to less flex even though the are made form the same materials. But for it's size the G7 was light, IIRC it was ~ 6lbs, I also have a Asus G74 they is almost 10lbs. I think the light weight added to how cheap it felt, but it was also what attracted me to it in the first place.
The DVD drive on the G series feels less study. Aside from build differences the dv6 has a 10 key number pad and the track pad is set left of center vs the G6 having no number pad and the track pad is more centered. The fit and finish of the dv looks/feels a little nicer. The dv seems to run around $100 for same specs as a G series, so it is kind of a toss up. Both are what I would call economy notebooks, but they don't feel like junk and for the price perform pretty well.
