Got mine may 24th from best buy. Got it out of the repair center yesterday, still broken from day 4 of use. It's a brand new laptop, but it has shown me "Inconsistencies in drives C/D" since the 4th day of use. I have no idea what is going on. Brought it to best to to get it repaired, got it back after a 3 week wait only for them to tell me "HP says this is a common problem." So I get it back to my house, and now it dosen't even hardly function. When I brought it in everything ran fine and fast, with the exception I cannot run a restore point because it cannot find the C drive. Now I turn it on, and it locks up after abopui 30 seconds of use, cannot open anything.
Anyone else got a G62 yet? Mine is a total piece of garbage.
First post, hi guys!![]()

I got my G62t back in February direct from HP, and it's worked great since I got it. Sorry to hear you've had problems with your's. When I got mine I wiped the hard drive and did a complete fresh reinstall of Windows without all the crapware.
-
I have a Compaq Presario CQ62 which is just a cheaper version of the G62 and have no problems with it at all. Try doing a clean install of Windows like WackyT did. Best Buy has a tendency to sell computers with a bunch of their own crap on it lately. My CQ62 was purchased from Walmart and while it had bloatware on it, it was nowhere as bad as my old Gateway NV53 that was bought from Best Buy.

I have been a owner of a G62-144DX notebook for a couple of months now, and I have had no problems as of yet. It sounds as though your problem is with your hard drives? I would try reformatting the computer, if I was you.
-
Mine hasn't had any severe problems either.
I do have a somewhat shaky wireless card (its driver seems to be the problem) but everything else works great. Fast, reliable and even the service was quite good so far.
Maybe you could try to check the hard disk for bad sectors or check the RAM thoroughly for problems. -
Return the thing to BB. Now. make your point that since they have been unable to repair the machine you want your money back. Now. Stop screwing around. The longer you keep the machine hoping that BB will fix it the less likely it is that you will get your $$ back.
I don't know why people have such problems deciding to return defective goods. -
OP do you have the AMD or Intel model?
-
G62 only comes with Intel processor. No AMD models.

Cool! Guess it's a direct to vendor model. Can't find it in HP's online store, but they do have an info page for it.

My brother just got a G62 yesterday at Futureshop. Today he called me asking me to come over to take a look at it, as it had locked up and now was just hanging at the loading screen for Windows 7.
I tried to boot into safe mode and I was still stuck at the loading screen. After doing some thinking I entered the BIOS and did a check on the main system drive only to have it return with a error at 3%.
I'll be taking this notebook back and exchanging it for him for something non-HP. -
I haven't had any problems with mine but I hope you took yours back for a refund. No one should have to settle for a computer that goes bad on day 4 and can't be fixed.

Probably windows acting up

My sister purchased a G62 a few months back and just recently dropped it. It is giving a hard drive error now and I want to replace the hard drive. I have a few questions that i am hoping someone can help me with:
1. How do you get into the BIOS? The computer shows the HP screen and only shows to hit F2 to enter the startup menu, but that does nothing and it just goes to a black screen afterward that says that there is a Hard drive error.
2. Where do you get the copy of Win 7 and all associated drivers (im assuming drivers are on HP site), but I don't have a copy of WIN 7 and i can't access the part of the partition that has it on there. -
i have a g62 have had for less than a month , screen compresssion cracks, the desgin of this model seems to be questionable as in the course of normal use , it is very delicate...Best Buy wont take back , can't get fixed under warranty WOW !!!!!! BAD design

My son has one for school, so far we have had 2 hard drives, 2 keyboards and one screen replaced. With the last hard drive, the recovery discs that we burnt didn't work, so had to wait a week for a new set, when they turned up disk 2 was portugese! another wait for another new set. When I restored the system it took 7 hours!!, after checking on the web, apparently it's not uncommon, a pity HP don't tell people that.
When the screen was replaced, away for another week, the day after we got it back, a horizontal line showed up, I rang and complained, but they would only say it would have to go away again for another week!
Really not impressed! -
I have and an HP g62 since april of this year and no problem great laptop especially with the ati radeon graphics card. Looks like your problem is a bad hard drive. Take it back to BB and get a new one.
Also i notice alot of people that bought theirs from a store like BB are having problems, I and a friend orders ours from HP directly and have no problems at all -
So here we are in February and it's gone back again!
hard drive, screen, touch-pad and motherboard all being replaced. This was bought directly from HP UK.
I will never buy a HP again!
In comparison my dell laptop is over 2 years old and nor problems at all. -
Maybe you ought to stick with Dell then, paolo2. My 2 year old G62t has been great! I have upgraded the memory from 4 to 8 GBs, and the hard drive to a Seagate hybrid, and I haven't had one problem.
-
Well it's interesting as I use a HP at work, a Z800, which has been solid as a rock, so maybe it's just the consumer stuff that's flaky. Interesting that you upgraded your hard drive to a seagate, the one in my son's was a toshiba, (his 3rd one when we get it back), so I may do the same, but as I said previously, not impressed with the customer service we've had.
-
Still have my g62 working great i dunno maybe user error
-
im having a issue as well im trying to reload the operating system but it saids a error everytime i assumed it was the disc but no it was cause the laptop is being a mean eletronic thing and whats worse i think the bios is messed up as well -___-

Hi manny3034,
Are you using the recovery media purchased from HP or the discs you made when you first purchased your notebook?

Update:
I changed the hard drive to a seagate momentus, but we have now had the second one of those fail in as many months.
Does anyone know of any issues with overheating of the hard drive in this model, as that is all I can think that has caused so many hard drive failures. -
A couple months back I replaced the Seagate hybrid hard drive in my 2 3/4 year old G62t with a Sandisk SSD, and that made it even faster. The Seagate 500GB hybrid is also working fine relocated to a desktop system. My G62t continues to be a great laptop!
HP G62 is nothing but problems.
