Picked up a G72-259wm at a yard sale for $7 with no hard drive-- I don't even want to know why only 7 bucks.

that said, I wanted to upgrade the CPU in this sucker. I tried a T9400 from my collection known-working, and, to my surprise, it didn't work.
the chipset is a GM45, so I assumed that a 1066MHz FSB CPU was okay to try... I guess not.

Anyone know if the board in these (which I'm assuming is also in quite a few other models) supports 1066MHz FSB CPUs? if anything I'd love to not put this T9400 in and instead put in a P8700 I have. if not, I'm gonna have to use the T8300, and that's not cool.

Check HP's site for the service manual. It will detail all the compatible CPUs (or at least the ones used in the configurable models).

I thought that model used i5s and i7s?

this is the 259wm which uses the same motherboard as quite a few other C2D-era models of its kind. some G72's have newer Arrandale chips, but this one was sold through WalMart and is spec'd as such, having come with a T4300. Currently I have a T8100 installed which I'm most likely going to be dropping for a different chip; I've confirmed the T9400 isn't faulty as it works in an HDX16 (or what's left of one) that I recently picked up this week. so i guess 1066MHz FSB chips are out of the question.
