    Howdy Folks !

    Am just about to take the plunge and buy the HDX 16 here in the UK. I just had a few concerns/niggles and was wondering if existing owners can offer some advice;

    1) I had a play around with the laptop and the lid doesn't seem to shut securely when closed. In fact it doesn't have a locking mechanism. Is this an issue during day to day usage?

    2) The track-pad is a bit uncomfortable to use. There seems to be a lot more 'friction' when I slide my fingers on it. Does this become a hassle after prolonged use?

    3) The blue ray drive sometimes doesn't lock in properly when closed. Is this a common defect?

    4) What sort of battery life are people getting with moderate use?

    5) Are there any other issues I should know about? I have narrowed my choices down to HDX and the Sony FW. The Sony does have a very attractive design but the built quality seems a bit cheap + the gfx card on the Sony is inferior to the HDX (Ati 3650 vs nvidia 9600gt).

    Thanks a lot guys !

    I've had my HDX16 for a week now.
    1. I worried about that also, being that there is no locking mechanism. But it shuts securely and hasn't wiggled at all in the down position. The only bad thing about it is that you have to use 2 hands to open it.
    2. I use a wireless trackball for the most part. But I don't find the track pad too rough. It actually feels pretty slick to me.
    3. Yep. If you push it in fast it will hit the top edge and not close. If you push it in slow it will go in just fine.
    4. 1:50 while surfing the internet with the 6 cell battery using "HP Recommended" power setting. I will try it out at the power saving setting later on.
    5. If you crank up the bass, the speakers will crackle.
    Cheers.

    Thanks for your input. Anyone else care to offer their advice? I'm also contemplating buying the macbook pro but am not too sure about running windows on it.

    I think you'll get more responses by posting in the HDX16 thread.
