Hello everyone. I have an HP HDX 16 that has been giving me some trouble. The problem is that when I set the computer to Power Saver mode it slows to a crawl and I can't hardly move the mouse or type anything. This has happened to me ever since I moved to Windows 7 which is the official upgrade program from Arvato and HP. At first I thought it was a fluke but I previously had a clean install of Windows 7 with no bloat ware and it did the same thing. This has got to be some type of software issue becasue the laptop is rock solid otherwise and no crashing.

Also my remote stopped working after the upgrade. What specific driver update gets this going again?

For the remote you will need the ENE CIR Receiver driver.

But anyway, Power Saver mode works by slowing down your computer so i'd say it is normal. However you should be able to move the mouse... Run the DPC Latency Checker and see what it tells you.

Download CPU-z and monitor the clock speed when it slows to a crawl.

The remote works good now. I was sure I installed that a few weeks ago. But it works good now after downloading the newest version on HP's support site.

I ran the DPC Latency checker. Check the attached results. Not too good for Power Saver.

Please see attached pics below. If this is right (clock speed of 800Mhz) then it still should run ok. Not being able to move a mouse, drag windows or type must be something not related to clock speed.

Is the shot on the left in normal mode? You still shouldn't be seeing any yellow lines either, you have a driver problem. And that driver problem is exaggerated when you lower the speed of the CPU (power saver mode).

Do the lines still appear when the wireless card is turned off? Wireless drivers are usually the main culprit in this issue. Try updating them (not from HP, from the card maker if possible). One program you can try is Process Lasso - it watches for programs gobbling up too much CPU and lowers their priority to make your system more responsive. It's a "set it and forget it" type of thing, and you can keep using it as shareware since the nags only appear when you try to use the interface, it's invisible otherwise.

Process Lasso has the nice "side effect" of lowering your overall DPC latency by quite a bit.

Update. Ok the good thing is when I turned off the wireless network device I never got a red bar. The highest it got was 1500which was yellow. I just installed the latest drivers from Intel for the WiFi 5100 series however I am still getting red bars while this device is enabled.

Well it's definitely the wifi then. You should give Intel an e-mail and see what they have to say about it.

It might not be a bad idea to get a poll going so that we have some other proof besides just my own observation. Then they will believe us more. Does that sound good?

Just mail 'em, they will look into it. Intel is serious business, they do listen to their customers.

    Done. http://communities.intel.com/thread/10835

I tried sending an email to support but they do not have Windows 7 in the dropdown list.
