    Hello Forum,

Does anyone know if the platform of the HDX 18-1200 CTO supports the i7-940 XM Processor?

This machine comes with the Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 at 3.06 Ghz, 8 GB of DDR3 RAM and two 500 GB (7200 RPM) HD's, it has a backlit keyboard (A must in any lap top) and it is OK and very fast for normal applications...

I will now be using it for editing video and I need a Lap top with Hyper threading and preferably 4 or more cores (Required in Adobe Premiere CS5)...

Please try to stay within the posted question (Is it possible to swap processors) and don't advice on getting ANOTHER COMPUTER !!

Thanking you for your courtesies to this request, please receive my best regards,

    azuaro

No you cant do that since they use different sockets (where you put the cpu in the motherboard).

What you can do is try to get your hands in one of those old quad cores like the Qx9000 or something like that. They dont have a high clock as your processor, but they are indeed quad.

Thank you so much for your answer...

Then, what about swapping the motherboard?

Does anyone sell Lap Top motherboards for this CPU and that will have a similar layout to the HDX 18?

    Thank you...

It is not possible to get a Core-i-series motherboard in the HDX design, since laptop motherboards are proprietary and HP has not made a Core i-series motherboard for the HDX due to the reasons that the HDX was discontinued before the Core-i-series started. Your best bet is to stick with the option of upgrading to the QX9000 instead.

Exactly, you're stuck with what you have or you can upgrade to QX9300. You'll need to be on the latest BIOS if you do that.

Otherwise, if you feel you need an i7, you will have to buy a current notebook.

    Good advice, thank you...

I think that it makes sense to wait until the next generation of six and more core processors with hyper threading reach the market of Lap tops...

    Best regards,
