You likely do need to update the BIOS. At least to F39.
Just run it as administrator and make sure no windowed apps are running when you do it. I would recommend turning UAC off also.

-
Lol no....
-
So.. for this Christmas, we get an overclockable CPU, a potentially MORE overclockable CPU without having to buy anything.. AND a likely workable ViDock solution and more possible GPU scenario.. Sounds good to me
-
Thats just a short wifi card, it should workeos.
-
This sucks man. I periodically save my passwords via the Digitalpersona software export option. I hope you can get access to it.
-
WHY? That generally speaking is not a good practice for PCs - they're not five 9 designed\reliable\supported as web servers.
Have you run CHKDSK?
You should do a baseline test; do a fresh install and avoid\be extremely selective about which\if any additonal hardware\software\updates you install - the list includes, but is not limited to current components\peripheral hardware (kbs\mice\printers\scanners, etc.)\supplemental sw (games, Office, etc.)\windows updates (especially), ad infinitum - in short if you can not install it don't; use - don't just let it sit idle to prevent the possiblity of the system going into some power saving state where some drivers might be unloaded\put into a power saving mode - for 15/20 mins see what happens, then cold kill it. Power up and run it for few more - restart (not cold kill) - run. If things seem copacetic then slowly introduce more hardware\sw\updates - not all at once\nothing major - repeat usage. BACK UP AFTER EACH SUCCESSFUL SESSION (hindsight\foresight).
FWIW my first startup this AM was complicated by updates. I am not the greatest, that being said I am also certainly not the worst (IMNSHO); I believe your problems are most likely software related; let's hope that is the case and pursue a course of action that can identify which - especially since it is the least monetarily expensive option.
Regardless of the trepidation you really need to update your BIOS. As a failsafe measure, if you don't have a USB floppy (recently went through the search for myself) they're 'bout $10 (eBay) to <$25 (local CompUSA?), or (hopefully not) you can be the first to test whether the BIOS can be upgraded via optical drive (a recent conversation). -
Yeah, yeah, yeah; "early senior moment" or "think before you speak" opportunity.
-
Yea I saw you replied right after I posted that. It's all good. Should have probably finished reading the whole thing first before I posted myself
-
And you BACKUP REGULARLY, YES?
One of the things 2.0 is famous for is CLEAN YOUR FANS REGULARLY; I will be the BACKUP REGULARLY champion. -
No prob; much love to everybody here all the time (not just during the holidays).
-
Superedit! Mouse went crazy there for a sec.
-
Every Sunday morning I use Acronis to back up all my computers. You could say that I'm religious about it.
-
Nice, very nice; and so I will, 2.0 is religious about it (my esteemed associates there is no better endorsement, 2.0 and his dear and close friend The Ultimate Super Supreme Moderator in the sky both believe in a "backup" plan, is that the Mormon Tabernacle Choir singin' a hymn in the background).
Myself every night before I start watchin' some TV in bed, or immediately following a major successful change. -
Sigh.... sad news.
Retried reinstalling.... but Win Vista recovery (partition) couldn't work.
Then tried the dvd backups.... things installed but it never got to boot right
Then retried Win7. Installed and booted up.
After putting in the nVidia driver, it went BSOD back on me. Went to safe mode and uninstalled the nvidia driver. Back to life with VGA driver.
Then.. I reread the thread here. Attempted the BIOS update. It said it was successful and rebooted.
Now... just a black screen.
I originally planned for this to last me 5 years. So... no computer until 2013.
I think I'm gonna cry. -
There is no crying in baseball! Get up and dust yourself off ... now the real work begins ... we here do not let dreams or Dragons die without a fight!
Translation - RUN CHKDSK; provide results. Download WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for an easy way to check SMART results and 0 a drive.
The path I laid out indicated performing a BIOS update as the last step; NOW it's the first. Unless you are going to be the first to prove that you can recover the BIOS from a CD - go to CompUSA and get the USB floppy drive, or BIN from eBay and wait for this one to arrive. We then will work to repair the ROM.
ThenThe DVD backups you mentioned are those recovery discs created with the Recovery Manger before this all started, or do you have the HP Recovery Discs (for only $16 you are better off having your own Pink Elephant Gun)? Since you have W7 we may wind up working with that (unless CHKDSK indicates the potential of a HD malfunction contributing to the trauma). -
Really sorry to learn about this. I take some responsibility for it since I was one of those who recommended that you update the BIOS.
But all is not lost. If you acquire a USB floppy drive and follow the recovery method, you will be back in business. -
2.0 and DRAGONe,
I will look for the USB floppy and try the restore method from there during the weekend.
I would just like to confirm if I still use the same BIOS that I downloaded from the HP website or do I try to find the F.39 that I originally had?
I think 2.0 was also right about the video card. If you remember, I was one of those whose vdeo card fried recently and revived through the reheating method. It was just funny how "drivers" seemed to mess it up. Maybe some part of its GPU RAM is got corrupted again or something.
In any case, things work perfectly when it is read as a "Standard VGA card". If I get it revived at that state, I'll be happy to keep it at that. Goodbye hardcore 3d gaming but at least I can still use it for other entertainment purposes.
Will update if there's any progress. If not, then I'll be back to ask if you guys think anyone would be willing to buy it.
Thanks for all the help guys! I would have been more lost if not for this thread. Thank you thank you thank you!
P.S. Hard disk works perfectly. Nothing wrong there. Will see if I can find me an old rewritable cd and try the cd method. But I need to know which BIOS I need to put there. -
Try F39 first. After that, you can try f40 using the floppy method. If that doesn't work, you can go back to F39. Though F39 is fine.
Issue appears to be with your GPU. Especially considering it was a bake. That can occur with a bake. They often have to be redone as the solution is temporary. -
They're both there; use 39 ( as it appears with others your beast may choke on 40). While not necessarily THE ONLY, definitely one. When. Time to replace ... $234.14 ... it's come down roughly $20 since last check.

Anyone experience a temp increase if your Dragon isn't sitting flush? It also happens if I lay the lappie on its monitor shell (open 90 degrees).
It seems Throttlestop has helped expose this---yet another use
-
You're half right! They often need a 2nd baking, sometimes a few degrees higher or a minute or two longer, but typically, the 2nd time is the charm.
I've been through it with a Dell Inspiron E1705 with a flakey nVidia card. The first bake worked, for a short time, but the symptoms returned. After the 2nd baking, it was fixed permantently. Others have said likewise... -
Well then, for Teletran, things are looking even more optimistic.
Thanks for the needed info. -
Ok, just finished doing the upgrade repair, and everything is functioning back normally finally, except the fingerprint sensor. The software itself works fine so I'm pretty sure it's the driver itself, but I'm having trouble finding the latest up to date driver for it, AES2501A - driver date 7/2/2009 - driver version 8.5.0.251, anyone know where it is?
-
I used SP45355.
Link to the Sofpaq library is on page 1. -
Just to say a big thanks to the creator of Throttlestop!
I've had my HDX for 2 years now, but there's always been an issue with responsiveness, sometimes after a while if I accidentally knock the charger out. Even changing CPU Power Settings didn't make a difference.
I suppose I had been lazy to figure out a solution until recently, when I decided to use CPUZ to see what was happening. The T8100 would limit itself anywhere between 400mhz and 1ghz.
After changing the BIOS and using Throttlestop, I'm now able to get the CPU running at it's normal speed
Thanks again! -
Sweet work sir. Throttlestop is awesome!

Just wanted to give props to 2.0 once again, my rig is running 100% again thanks to you, so I'll be sure to give you a case of cubans in the mail one of these days (which is doable actually
). Now all I need for xmas is a 280m gtx with a fully functioning bios, nothing you can't do right? RIGHT?
-

The GTX280M would be possible if you can hack the a GTX280M vbios into the HDX9000 compressed system bios. No bios compressor exists atm to make that possible. Two decompressors exist: ADDCCV3 (semi) and compdeco (Veit). semi has been asked to create a compressor but has given no indication of wishing to create one. So it's not clear when the tools necessary to make this happen will be created, if ever.
The other option to improve your systems graphic performance that you can do now would be say a HD5770@x2E or HD6850@x2E DIY ViDock. It would outperform a GTX280M but would be an external solution - you'd need an external LCD to run it and would run 2 mini HDMI cables, one to the expresscard slot and one to the underside wifi slot.
The DIY ViDock could also be used in any future system with an expresscard slot. -
Hehe nando, I was sort of being sarcastic there buddy, I know how difficult the process is, hence the xmas wish....
-
I haven't gotten approval from the boss regarding this yet (I've always subscribed to the principle betta' to ask forgiveness than beg permission), but I definitely have to say another special thanks to you Nando4 for all the intricate investigation you have performed for us in spite of the fact you don't ride a Dragon with us.
For Christmas this year:
@Nando4 - I don't think you can handle being 'gifted' anymore than you already are.
@uncleweb - whatever you want most (you and we all know why)
@Black Knight and aldam - you will recieve the alluded to temp tests.
@RickiBerlin - a better translation program than iGoogle.
@S K I - never ending tech support.
@Max - Santa (2.0, you have it all already - answer aldams question) is supposed to leave you a special meat flavored rawhide bone.
@D7 - you will be blessed with better health.
@Burke - your Dragon will be resurrected (where ya' at man).
@CompTrekkie - you probably have the fastest flying machine and live here so you're already privileged enough.
Everyone else my most sincere wish that you enjoy this holiday with your loved ones and that the next year is by far your most prosperous.

Here I go again CompT, D7
Question is how many Cubans can you fit into a case, and what will 2.0 do with a bunch of illegal immigrants (NYC is already pretty much topped out on it's quota of them already)? Unless MAX has nobody to play with since he is always helpin' us out.

I confirm that DIY Vidock does NOT work on the HDX Dragon 9300 series (F40 BIOS). However, it ran smoothly on another HP notebook of mine (TX2 Touchsmart multitouch series), so at least I found a use for my new DIY Vidock!

Please boot your DIY ViDock switched off to Setup 1.x, run diagnostics, save the contents of \diag, upload and link here so I can have a look at your configuration.
Unless you have error 12 issues due to HP setting too high a TOLUD value (unlikely), then there is no reason why a DIY ViDock should not work. The Setup 1.x software can perform PCI Compaction if necessary to free up 32-bit space to host the desktop video card. -
I'm at home waiting for a new heat-sink.
I'm using the HDX with an ATI card.
Anyway I know for sure that the NVIDIA card works with the f.39. So I was about to ask after getting the heat-sink. How to flash back to f.39. That question was answered in the previous posts. I'll keep you posted when I get the sink. I'll make photos of both sinks.
Also DRAGONe. You've posted a link towards buying the card from hp for 234$.
I bought mine from dectrader for 200 and the package they have sent me is from HP; packaged by HP. The ram chips are Hynix. -
Excellent; here it is folks $221 delivered US ground; get 'em while in stock (showing only five remaining).

Here you are (my problem in Windows 7 is 'Code 12: This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use'):

I especially lately have run into situations where I needed to exchange lots of info (individual\total file sizes that are larger than free email allows as an attachment needing to go to multiple people) with others; so I found a number of free upload sites that make it easy. Give 'em a look (post your holiday pics and just send people a link to look at whatever you put there); cuts down tremendously on wasted time.
Dropbox, Box.net,
SugarSync, and
ZumoDrive.
All free allowing unlimited amounts of accounts. Anybody please add to this list.

Hi there, this is my first post and I´m in desperate need for help, hope someone can help me out. My computer is freezing up, no BSOD, just completely freezed and only way to get out of it is to hold power button down.
Computer is HDX9494nr, just installed a new Hitachi hard disk since the original one died a few weeks ago. Then I installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and the problem starded. Didn´t seem to happen with W7P x86 altought I only ran it for a few days but I do need to run an x64 system anyway. So computer is completely stock apart from the Hitachi drive and the windows 7 install.
Don´t know if the problem is program related but I haven´t installed almost anything yet, no even MS Office, just VLC media player, WinRAR, Nod32, Firefox and Vuze.
W7U x64 installed as per this guide.
I´m no pro so any help would be greatly appreciated. -
Uninstall nod32. Instead use MSE: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/
-
Could also be the latest NVIDIA 260.99 driver. If MSE does not solve it, try uninstalling the 25x/260 driver and going back to a 18x/19x driver. Newer drivers "don't like" the 8800M GTS in the Dragon; 'freezes' are very common with them.
-
Thanks, downloading MSE now, will report back. I also downloaded Registry Mechanic, hope it helps too.
-
Where can I get 19x driver? I have Nvidia PhysX Software 260.99 and Nvidia Graphics Driver 260.99 installed. Do I have to uninstall them both?
