First post used to jump into discussion and claiming HP contacts, customers, etc? Hmm...

Doesn't Nordic PC sell custom DESKTOP systems?

Seems to be some credibility issues.

Now, normally, I'm very courteous to new posters. And the way things have been in this thread almost since it's inception is that new folks come in with questions or to answer a question because they experienced the same issue and have a solution. Or just to say that they've joined the club or would like to.

But here you come in attempting to lend credibility to yourself above and beyond the judgment of those who have contributed greatly to the HDX community by making all sorts of unsubstantiated and likely false claims for the purpose of bolstering your argument.

This post appears to serve no purpose other than to troll.

Sorry friend, but no new poster that has so much alleged experience with the HDX would be that passionate about a minor issue enough to make it their first post. You would have been here months ago contributing knowledge for the benefit of the community such that you would have earned credibility the old fashioned way.

Make sure they TELL YOU and CONFIRM that you sending it NOW will make sure the warranty is extended 30-60 days otherwise they may pull one they pulled on me..tell me to submitt the repair with the same time frame left as you did, they promise to replace it with something equal or better than what I had (its a 3 ghz processor Athlon) if they can't fix it or it still has problems...then when I tried to get it sent in again when they're was another problem, then let me know they couldn't because the warranty expired between that time EVEN THOUGH they told me if it had any problems within 90 days from the date they repaired it I'd be covered. BTW ALSO get a confirmation or ticket # of when they tell you that, make sure they write those words in the notes, get their name, and WRITE IT ALL DOWN/keep it in your PPC or planner or what not so they can't say otherwise later.

Hi! Just a question... why the HDX when completely shut down still "loses" charge? Let's say, in a 20 hours off, I get 95% full when I start it (5% down)? I'd say through natural discharge and the fact that the CIR is still in a receiving state in order to listen to IR commands from the remote...

    Is that so?

    Thanks

Yep, that's so. ACPI circuitry is still active when it's shut down. Most notebooks are designed this way now.

Don't know, I have setpoint setup also but haven't noticed what you are experiencing. Do you have a wireless Logitech mouse? If so, is it connected to a hub instead of directly to the HDX?

Yea I have a wireless logitech mouse, a pretty nice one cost 70-90 dollars or so which came with the bundle the guy in Canada sold me. Nope, its directly connected to the HDXs usb. It did it before, I uninstalled deleted all drivers, reinstalled, and stopped doing it..till after I did a power drain..Now its back. I installed Setpoint via the disk, and let it update through there/the icon in the task tray because when I tried using the newest one directly from the site it screwed stuff up.

While I was looking for some info on the Dragon, I happened onto Erik's Nordic Computers website. He had a page where he spoke of his experience with the Dragon, and his disappointment that HP did not fulfill his CTO even though they had his money in hand.

I called him partly to ask about his experience with the Dragon as well as the feasibilty of a display replacement for my IBM Thinkpad. He shared his experience of having bought two Dragons, with both displays, and his clear appreciation of the WUXGA.

I asked him if he would post his impressions on the forum, since a comparison between both was considered a method of analysis.

He was not trolling. Rather, he's a very gracious person.

To some degree, I agree. It shouldn't drain much though. As long as they are OFF and not in STANDBY, the drain should be minimal.

To the extreme of that was the Dell XPS M2010. I physically had 4 of those in and out of my hands (and the hands of friends) and EVERY ONE would completely drain it's battery over a weeks time. Now, that is not normal! Needless to say...SOLD!

I'd love to stand corrected. But that sort of post is trolling. Recall back in the day with rumba and his trolling? He'd create a new nick to attempt to support his contentions? It ruined the forum for a while.

It's poor form to ask someone new to post on your behalf to support your contention. We can't verify the new poster as being trustworthy and not a multi-nick and therefore can't assume anything they say is valid. They could literally be posting for your sake and yours alone.

What's more, it lowers the credibility of the one who asks someone new to post on their behalf. It appears as a psychosis. Yes, I know that's harsh. But the point of this site is to give good and valid information. And one of the most important ways to do that is to show self-integrity.

That's why rumba, though having actually provided some useful info, was banned. He lost credibility by demonstrating a critical lack of integrity.

What's more, you haven't even used your HDX yet for reasons unknown and therefore have no idea what your own screen looks like (let alone by comparison), yet you let this issue get so far under your skin that you risked garnering a perception of one who lacks integrity. Frankly, it's bizarre.

But all that harsh stuff out of the way...

I don't like to be harsh. I really don't. I apologize for being so knowing an apology wont be worth much, considering. But this forum and this particular thread is too valuable to let this kind of act go unanswered. This issue itself (re: WSXGA+ v. WUXGA) is minor. The issue of solicited trolling is a major one.

If having been harsh on you makes me persona non-grata, then so be it. But I'd rather have gone down defending integrity than to have the thread and forum fallen down into an abysmal state of uselessness and unreliability via vanity, apathy and the coddling of villainy on my part.

Anyway, back to our regular Q&A and problem solving. Because if we don't help each other out, who will?

In regards to the built-in webcam:

There is only one instance in which I use the webcam -- using Skype to talk to my Mom "across the pond". (other than that, I keep a small piece of black electrical tape across the lens. I've never liked camera lenses 'staring' at me -- on or off)

While in Skype and the video is going -- periodically, actually every 45 seconds or so, the "YouCam" crap software always pops up, minimizes, pops back up, minimizes, pops back up -- so on and so forth. Wanting me to put stupid little hearts or snowflakes or some such around my picture. I don't want that. I don't even want the "YouCam" software. PERIOD!

Can I use **JUST** the webcam driver with no other webcam/youcam software installed? I've updated the YouCam software (thinking that MIGHT solve the problem) -- nope, that didn't work. I emailed the YouCam company. My response was short and not very helpful at all.

I don't "take pictures" with my webcam, and as I said, the ONLY time I ever use that thing is when I'm in a Skype conversation with my Mom.

Oh, also when this YouCam software stuff pops up, my Mom says that my cam entirely freezes on her end -- until I close the YouCam software on my side. It opens itself back up in another 45 seconds, though.

Oh. I honestly couldn't tell you. Only video (hidef) and sound go to the television. I don't have any home theater systems or anything. I'm only using the audio on the televisions themselves. My televisions all have outputs for separate audio systems.

**EDIT** -- I just use a single HDMI cable from the Dragon to the television. I have to set the SPDIF as the default device for the sound to come through. But, I'll start up a video file and close the lid on the Dragon. But as I said, I only listen to the stereo coming through the speakers in the television itself.

You know, 2.0. You're probably the most generous on this forum when it comes to helping people on the forum, but I believe you're flat out wrong when it comes to the WUXGA, and you're flat out wrong when it comes to me.

No, 2.0, there is no trolling going on here.

You have started with an assumption and argued from there. You assumed that I created a false "nic" and am trolling. You've proved it in your own mind. The problem is, that is NOT what happened. Why don't you email Erik and ask him? He said he did not want to be drawn into the debate, and I hope you'll respect that, and simply ask if that was his post.

Here, by the way, is the web page that I originally found with Erik's thoughts on the Dragon.

    http://www.nordiccomputers.net/PCgallery.html

To me it's important that if people are in the market for an HDX that they do not turn away from a very fine screen.

When I first joined the forum I was impressed with how much you went WAY out of your way to help people, but I couldn't understand why you kept putting down the WUXGA, CMO etc. No review ever described the WUXGA as inferior, dingy etc. You now call it a minor issue, and you wonder why I seem obsessed with it, yet it wasn't me that kept bringing up the WUXGA and its supposed shortcomings.

I pointed out that CMO makes a range of displays from the cheap to the excellent. You can't put down a display because of a blanket statement that LG is better than CMO. We're talking about a specific panel. And if LG was interested in quality, why did they and Sharp (and Chungwa) engage in a massive price fixing scheme? Everybody that bought an LG panel paid too much for it.

I've spoken with more than one person who've seen both displays, and their conclusion was different than yours.

As I said, you're a great guy, and you're helping countless people on this website in a selfless manner. That's extraordinary. But I don't agree with you on the WUXGA display, nor on the viability of a new 20 inch model. And as far as HP MXM cards being proprietary, that doesn't appear to be the case with the EliteBook, according to someone who deals with the MXM issue exclusively.

I believe that people have a right to agree or disagree on any subject, and in this regard it's more profitable if ad hominem remarks were left out of it.
And to reiterate, I was not trolling, and I have only one account on this forum/website.

    Take care.
    MA

It is trolling in that it's a disingenuous way to go about trying to prove a point. It devalues the forum. Would you want posters calling on their friends to jump into discussions who have no forum history in an attempt to back the poster's POV with a subjective opinion?

You've definitely trolled by solicitation. As for what I assumed, at first wasn't sure but left room for doubt...

Notice I gave you the benefit of the doubt. In fact, I was sure that you didn't multi-nick. That's why I said, "solicited trolling."

Who said it wasn't fine? Not the same does not equal not fine. That's where you went wrong. But what's more important is that people go in with their eyes open to what is true and factual rather than go in based on someone's defense of a purchase.

I'll give you an example: Before the HDX was discontinued, I advised people that if you're going to game, get the WSXGA+. Why? You'll get higher frame rates at native resolution than the WUXGA no matter what. Basic mathematics. Which means you'll be able to play current games on the HDX longer than you would on the WUXGA. What's more, there have been more problems with the WUXGA screen than the WSXGA+. Read around the web and you'll see it.

And what does that tell you? Do the math. If I go out of my way to help people, wouldn't it stand to reason that I'm actually interested in their computing well being by being as truthful as I can? Think about it. Where as, your only motivation appears to be to defend a purchase you haven't even used yet.

Price fixing has nothing to do with quality. Basic economics which I'm not going to get into. LG is considered better than CMO in virtually all their competing market segments. I'm not going to debate industry facts. I just state them. The history of the two companies speak for themselves. Personal and collective experience confirms. Read around the forum for starters.

Great. But seeing how you've gone about things, the above doesn't seem so credible. I mean, who is a more credible person to ask? A person who has owned both simultaneously or a person who sells both? See the conflict of interest? I trust the opinion of owners and not sellers who get more profit for selling the WUXGA. Reviewers are another story which was already addressed.

Hey, that's fine. I have no monopoly on the truth. But I tend to gather my facts such that I won't be too far off the mark when I state something. If someone is telling you that the MXM in the HDX is upgradeable, by all means tell them to attempt to put their money where their mouth is. And if they believe a new 20 in. notebook is possible, by all means let them state their case.

There is no ad hominem anywhere. Everyone was straight and direct with you and addressed all of your points that lent themselves to discussion. No one attacked you as opposed to addressing your arguments. Then you resorted to solicited trolling to forward your argument. Now the discussion can't continue with you as you've lost credibility by your actions.

I really wish you hadn't done that. Some may not see it as that big of a deal. But it is because we each rely on the credibility of and trust in the poster when we either accept their statements, help or opinions. This is part of what cybervisions is talking about when he refers to online "techs" who honestly don't know what they are talking about but state things just to appear knowledgeable that end up harming people who trusted them.

    Hi All,
Just traded a video projector for one of these and am very happy so far. I have noticed that there is an IR emitter jack on the side. The main reason I got this was to play around with using it as a HTPC. Has anyone tried to use the IR emitter and basically use the laptop as a huge remote control with the ability to run macros? I already have a Pronto and Harmony that can perform these task but was thinking if I could make my own graphics and then add touch screen abilities than maybe my wife would be able to control the Home Theater devices.
    Thanks

I have no need to impress you or justify anything to you, I stated an opinion based on my and my customers impressions. You don't agree, fine, we don't have to.

EDIT: If we only did desktops I fail to see how my opinion becomes any less valid.

I was contacted by a forum member, I can't for the life of me remember the ID I used here before but I do have one, since I forgot I created a new ID. I have posted in this very thread and I'll search for my ID and ask for a password reset, when I have time.

I didn't come here to do anything but render an opinion, not beyond anybody but myself and the people who I work with or do work for that share my opinion. I doubt they feel the need to come here and post to prove they agree with me and I could care less if you believe me, it's just an opinion.

    Noted, everybody has an opinion.

I made it my first post becase I was called and asked for an opinion, I gave it, you seem to have an axe to grind, I don't so I'll just post my opinion's and we can agree to disagree.

I am passionate about the HDX, it's the best laptop I've ever owned, and as I state above, I'll find my old user ID someday and will post with that, not good enough for you, such is life.

You're right, I do have an axe to grind. I don't deny that at all. Here's why I have it. The last time this sort of thing happened, it did a lot of damage to the thread. Allow me to explain. We had a poster named rumba who made a bunch of claims he couldn't back up. He became agitated by being challenged on his points. So a few "new" posters come in to "back up" his claims. Turns out though, that "they" were all just one person - him. What's more, he deleted all his posts breaking the flow of discussion. He became highly disruptive, attempted to sow distrust and fear, and was subsequently banned.

This episode appeared to have the same spirit behind it. I hope you can appreciate that.

The admitted fact that he asked you to chime in discredits your opinion, valid or not, in that its motivation is tainted. It could literally be done in support of a friend for friendship sake and there is no way to tell otherwise other than taking your word for it. As far I can tell, all the opinions, advice, help, support and observations in this thread have been done for the sake of the community at large. Your post stood out as the exact opposite of that.

I don't have an issue with you. My issue is with MobileArtist and the way he went about things. I'm not going to harsh on him anymore. Doing so might only end up destroying his character. I'd rather give him the opportunity to regain his credibility. He has after all contributed positively in the past. No reason he can't going forward.

So I apologize to you for taking point blank aim in defense of the thread's integrity. It's the only thread of its kind on the web from what I gathered. It deserves defense from what had happened before from happening again.

What's more, I apologize to the community for taking up so much thread time on this issue. There likely was a more expeditious way to handle it.

Lastly, I apologize to MobileArtist for so publicly calling him out on his action. It may have been possible to handle it privately, but I didn't explore that route. I assumed the bizarreness of the scenario and past exeperience with a similiar scenario, would preclude reasonable private discourse.

Yes, you don't need the YouCam software to be installed in order to use the webcam. Just the driver. Skype will detect that you have a webcam installed.

    I have the HDX9000T CTO

Please ignore my earlier post about the IR remote control. I did some research and found that HomeSeer Automation Software now offers this feature. I already have their software I will just have to buy the upgraded version. Really looking forward to playing with this and using the laptop to control my home theater, lighting, sprinkler and other devices. The HomeSeer has the voice recognition software built in. It would be nice to just say "Watch Movie" and have all of my devices turned on, set to the correct settings and the lights dimmed. :)

You know, as I got dragged into this discussion by default, I started to draft a long winded argument on the discussion and other things. However, as is my nature these days, I find more and more that I write out what I think first, then read it; and then delete it and write what I think is best for all concerned. Don't get me wrong - those of you that know me here know that I don't hold back on opinions when I feel it's necessary to do so. I say what I mean and think when I believe I'm right, and I don't apologize unless proven wrong, at which time I will apologize and admit that I'm wrong, unlike many people.

However, I have rarely had to apologize.

As both 2.0 and Mobile are 2 of my better online friends, I will not take sides in public either way. While all of us have had private discussions on the engineering and manufacturing aspects of this problem, it has gotten to a point in public discussion on this thread that it should never have gotten to - at this point everyone is arguing in favor of their own Ugly Baby.

For those of you who don't know, the "Ugly Baby" metaphor comes from my experience when I was working NASA QA and overseeing NASA projects at then-Martin Marietta here in Maryland. Scott Stith, the Director of QA there at the time, and I were having a discussion about someone else having an argument that had gotten out of hand, and how it could've been handled better. He looked at me and said,

"NEVER tell someone that their Baby is Ugly"

As you might expect, I looked at him and nodded first like I understood what he meant (never let 'em know you don't) and then when I realized he knew I had no clue as to what the F*** he was talking about, I just looked at him like he was insane.

He explained to me what it meant. It's all about how you phrase your response to a loaded question, or react to a particular situation. In this example, he used a newlywed couple with a newborn baby that was uglier than Satan's butthole (not that I've ever SEEN Satan's butthole...).

Let's say that the couple in question asked what your opinion was about their new baby. After looking closely, and after fighting off the wave of extreme nausea after seeing it, you respond to that couple and say "That's the most ugliest thing I've ever seen in my life!" or something equivalent, it wouldn't make a bit of difference if you were right or not - that couple would defend that kid as the most beautiful thing on the planet, even if they knew they were wrong and deep down every fiber of their being told them they were defending the indefensible. Puking your guts out in front of them would not dislodge them from their opinion or further your cause either.

2.0's recollection about Rumba is accurate; it is a classic example of this type of situation. When confronted with his baby being called what amounts to a wart-faced Swamp Hog, he did everything to defend his position knowing he was wrong. But that's human nature - we all do it because we don't like to lose or likes our personal reputation or honor attacked, which is what calling someone's baby ugly is doing.

    APPLICATION IN REGULAR DISCUSSION

This applies to any kind of discussion/argument. If you say something in a discussion that puts a person in the position of defending what they hold sacred, it won't mean a thing if you're right or not - that person will defend what they hold sacred to the bitter end, even if they know they're wrong in their own hearts. It's not about defending accuracy - it's about defending honor, and most people do not back away willingly or easily from such a confrontation. At the national and global level it's called War.

HOW TO RESPOND WHEN CONFRONTED WITH AN UGLY BABY

So what should one do in such a situation? Rather than say "That's the ugliest baby I've ever seen!" or words to that effect, you might say "That's the most unique baby I've ever seen!". You get your point across to those who agree with you without offending the other party, which is the whole lesson behind this entire thing, which is:

"It's Not WHAT You Say, But HOW You Say It".

This is why I rarely post my first reaction to a post I might disagree with, unless I purposely want to pi$$ off the person posting the comment because he/she is a Darwin Award candidate that hasn't won yet. I've been known to write an hour's worth of stuff so nasty it would make Jules Winfield and Vincent Vega cringe - being a submariner I know how to push the right buttons. But in the end I usually just delete it because I've had time to think about the consequences of the post or how it would make people feel - or more importantly, how it would make me look. Remember always that how you react and respond to a situation in public says a lot about who you are as well. That's the Sensei in me, and I've learned to listen to it. Most of the time anyway.

    Okay, SOME of the time....

Likewise, I also think before I say something - once it's out of your mouth, you can't take it back.

That doesn't mean I ALWAYS do that though. Sometimes I'll post exactly what I think. 2.0 has seen some of that here, but probably only once and it wasn't on this post. It was a response to some clown who tried to BS the thread with techo-BS at my expense, and I slammed him with the facts while showing to everyone what his real technical knowledge amounted to - Zip.00.

    FURTHER DISCUSSION

The only thing that can come of any further discussion on the display issue in public here will only serve to do one thing - disrupt the thread and its credibility. If it must continue in private as a "who's bigger " contest, then move it there. It's time to put this display discussion crap to rest, in public anyway. We have prided ourselves on being one of the better threads on this forum because frankly, we have better professionals here who contribute than others threads have. This shows that even when people understand and know what it means, it's often easy to fall into the Ugly Baby trap.

For those of us here who are professionals, remember that you ARE professionals, and that how you conduct yourself in public reflects on you as well as the rest of us.

WSXGA vs WUXGA - WHAT IT REALLY BOILS DOWN TO

In the end it doesn't really make a bit of difference whether or not one display type is technically better, or its benchmark test is better because it doesn't matter. Tests, statistics, all of the BS is done and taken in clinical areas under the most optimum conditions possible, and even those results are further skewed to make them look better than they are to the home or inexperienced tech or user who can't tell the difference, or thinks he knows more than he really does. Once those displays leave the manufacturer, there are too many things that they can be subjected to that can alter performance after it's assembled into the new unit prior to sale. Used units cannot be realistically compared to a new one because field use changes it even further - any real professional knows this. But again, it just doesn't matter in the grand scheme of the technical universe other than maybe to satisfy some weird orgasmic fantasy we'd rather not contemplate or otherwise know about.

What IS important is how each user views the performance of the display he/she is looking at, both when shopping for a system and the overall performance the user gets when using it after purchasing.

If the user is happy, then that's all that really matters.

    ACK-ACK.

2.0, once again, you have steered me in the right direction. I didn't want to uninstall that Cyberlink YouCam software for fear of it removing the webcam driver itself. Just uninstalled it, fired up Skype, and everything works the way **I** want it to work -- again, thanks to your help.

    Disaster....

In figuring out, and actually getting it working......I deleted my sound. I deleted the SPDIF and whatever makes sound come out of the built in speakers....The headphone jacks still work...

I swear I used to be technical, but Vista has me stumped on how to get these back.

    Any help appreciated.

I acdentially deleted my sound output devices, specifically the SPDIF and the HDX's speakers. I cannot see how to get them back. Any help appreciated...

PS. Would updating my sound drivers fix this? What is the latest recommended sound driver?
    Thanks again,

Right-click on the speaker icon, click on PLAYBACK DEVICES, right-click on a blank area in that window, and check the boxes SHOW DISABLED DEVICES, and SHOW DISCONNECTED DEVICES.

I've deleted the SPDIF accidentally a few times. This has always brought everything back!

    Thanks for the advice hovercraftdriver.

The fan is definitely running. There is a considerable blow when it gets hot.
The extra fan was blowing, but I elevated the laptop with a book, so it was blowing underneath, rather than into the fan exit.
No compressed air, but I gave the vent a good few strong blows.
I am getting artifacts when playing Far Cry 2.
I've taken quite a few laptops to bits over the years, but I don't think I'll be tackling The Dragon. I'm also worried about voiding the warranty.
I'm also reluctant to send the laptop back, but if the GPU isn't ever going to work properly then it needs to be fixed or replaced, even if that means losing "The Beast" and having a replacement. The quad core HDX looks good!

Yeah, I seem to remember that old announcement way back in the day when Intel announced that they were partnering with some fly-by-night garage company called Microsoft.

Never did hear what became of them......

    Jake,
I've been going through your posts and the one thing I've noticed is that you've been focusing on your game problem but haven't mentioned anything about what background processes or other programs you might have running at the same time. You're assuming that it's your game causing the problem, but without a logical process of elimination that's a bad assumption. Is it reasonable to assume that it likely is? Of course. But you know what assuming anything will get you.

You specifically mentioned your temp is 92 degrees as shown on ATITool. THINK about that - 90 degrees Celsius is hot enough to fry an egg and near hot enough to boil water. You need to run at least 2 different independent temperature monitoring programs to check one against the other. Until you've proven you can trust a utility you use, never assume that it's giving you the correct information until you can check it against something else.

Go to CPUID.com and download/install/run HWMonitor and see if the GPU temps match. The Max for the 8800 on HWM is 120F (about 49C). ATIT is telling you your temperature is effectively double the normal amount, and you're only seeing some artifacts on your game? I'm wondering how you can stand to type if it's actually that hot.

What you need to do is startup your HDX and then check your temperatures at certain intervals with HWM. We've used it here many times on the HDX and know that it's reliable and accurate. Initial startup and login to desktop with only background processes running for 10 minutes to give the system GPU to heat to normal temp. Normal is around 120F/49C using HWM. After you get a baseline temp with no applications running, note your SysTray processes running and then startup your game and anything else you use for gaming one at a time, waiting about a minute or two after each to see if the temperature fluctuates any.

Let me know what you come up with.

    Hey Cyber,

I think you are mis-interpreting (or brain-farting :) ) HWMonitor. That Max value is the max temp your device has reached, not what the recommended or design max temp is. If 49c was the max, hell, no one would be able to play hardly any graphics intensive games. I believe ours (8800GTS) should reach or operate to 80c with no problem, but concern should set in above 70. I think this has been established earlier in this thread months ago. BUT, I COULD BE WRONG. If you are not mistaken, then please tell me where you got your info. I know my Dell XPS Gen2 with 7800 GTX would hit 104c if overclocked to stay up with latest games. It would auto-downclock at 105 and shut down at 115. Different GPU and different system with not as good of cooling, and it got warm, no doubt. To hot for my lap, but not too hot to type.

All that said, every other part of your post is spot-on and very good for troubleshooting these kinds of things. Simply using HWM should give us an idea of his load conditions and such. And I think we would all agree that 92c is way too frickin hot, given the experiences of all the folks in the community, so an answer needs to be found.

    UPDATE: Check this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=263039
    and this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=316677

It appears that there is no valid references from these guys, but they have done a lot of testing and research. The biggest problem is that nVidia has not publicly released data sheets with temp info. I am sure that they have fail-safe temp thresholds that they adhere to, but there are too many variables after the GPU leaves their hands and goes to the various vendors and/or computer manufacturers. It probably has to do with liability to replace units if announced thresholds are reached or come close to, even when nVidia can't control vendor configs and enthusiast (or moronic) OC'ing.

The bottom line cutthroat jake, is that your temp is dangerously close to the extreme that anyone recommends, so if troubleshooting and "home remedies" don't cure it, then you'll probably have to send it in for repair. Hopefully, you'll get yours or another Dragon back.

    HP SERVICE SUCKS.

I live in Canada. They sell HDX X16 and X18. But don't offer it with a second drive. You can't order the hard drive/bracket from the Canada site. You can order it from the US site, but they don't ship to canada. I complained to canada parts and was told there was no way HP USA can ship parts to HP Canada. So HP are selling HDXs in Canada but you can never buy a part for it in Canada.

BTW: another company does sell the bracket and SATA to whatever cable:

    It's only $40.

Don't blame HP, blame your government for their rules and regulations that make it impossible for HP to make a profit selling in Canada.

Wow this sounds pretty cool. I take it it doesn't come with the inherent ability to change the hard ware to a touch sensitive screen as well? :) Were you planning on I guess doing some surgery on the HDX to get a touch screen implemented? I was looking at some videos for touch screens and thought that would be cool as well.

I JUST got my 8GBs Gskill Memory in, after paying $300 for it from a place in Australia, and had a friend buy it for me and ship it to me (he's a great guy and a blessing!), and it seems to work great! I remember someone perhaps mr Lancorp wonder why the Microsoft Experience score for the memory went down one point..does anyone know why that is and what I can do about getting it back up one point? It used to be 5.1 now its 5.0 yet does register it as having 8GBs! Though I'll have do to more testing and such, push it or what not, I must say it is helping ALOT in terms of zippyness! VERY RECOMMENDED!

All I'm waiting for now is my 2 500GB 7200.4 rpm hard drives (spent $130 for each) which just shipped out last night and I can try to get an XP Pro (so I can record videos from my DVR, back them up, and delete them off) and Vista Ultimate dual boot! I got a SATA USB external enclosure thanks to 2.0s tip so I can access the previous hard drives. I just wanted to say this forum rules!
