If you've got the right mobo, it's certainly doable.

    Find a 464591-001 and you're in business.

sadly I am out of luck on that one. Wonder what a new mobo cost :)

EDIT: $338 just for the motherboard....would rather buy another SSD :)

Any idea on which driver is the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System one for Windows 7? I've been trying to install things with Vista SP2 mode, but I guess it didn't work out with this one.

Hi all, Took the plunge and loaded Win7 last night. Overall, I like it and the install went well. Only thing is, I have the following unknown devices:

    ACPI\HPQ0006
    ACPI\ITE8710

Can anyone provide info as to what they may be and what drivers I need? Thanks :)

I only have American Blu Rays at the moment, so I don't know about those ones, but regarding DVDs it definitely needs to be dealt with,: my collection is half zone 1 and half zone 2...

Dox, over at LV2Go, has modded the nVidia 185.85's for Vista/Win7. If you don't have Blu-ray, I highly recommend them.

Stock clocks on Win7 got me 8154 on 3dMark06, 10-12FPS increase in Oblivion, 5-7 in Witcher and Warhammer DoW2. And the best thing is my temps dropped 4-5 degrees at idle.

Results may vary, but I am quite pleased. He has a new installer as well...piece of cake.

Edit* almost forgot the link: http://laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=24004

Yes, it works very well. That's what I'm using.
remember, it's from Microsoft - acquired from windows update when you have the basic Microsoft sound driver installed. You get to the basic sound driver by uninstalling the 5607 from device manager and clicking teh "delete this driver" box. After reboot, go to the device manager and right click the microsoft sound driver and update it.

DOX's 185.85 works nicely. It's a keeper. Many thanks for the heads up Hov. ;)

Edit; BTW, I've concluded my experiments with powermizer disabled. My conclusion is, unless you're having playback issues (stutter) with some online videos (like flash movie trailers) and you have a good broadband connection or in games ( I don't own anay games that can benefit from powermizer off), don't worry about it.

First time poster on this forum, which I stumbled across when researching HP Dragon. I have recently purched a Dragon, and eagerly waiting for it to delivered. (HP Pavilion HDX9402TX Intel Core 2 Duo T5850 (2.16GHz/2MB L2 Cache/667MHz FSB 2GB DDR2 RAM 320GB 5400RPM HDD20.1 inch WSXGA+ 1680 x 1050 displayDVD+/-RW dual layer with lightscribe drive, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT with 256MB dedicated video memory)

The volume of info relating to this Notebook on this forum is fantastic.

I'm hoping the forum is able to assist with a few queries -

    1) Is the built-in microphone suitable for use when dictating using the Vista speech to text.? (I currently use a Logitech USB headset)

    2) Is it possible to transfer my "voice" files from my old desktop to the new HP, so that I don't have to go through the setup, training etc. (The set up of Vista Speech is much quicker than Dragon Dictate, however I have already trained a large volume of specific terms related to my occupation)?

    3) I realise the specs of my Dragon are at the low end of the scale when compared to most HP Dagons. I plan to use MS Office 07 predominantly, which I assume will be OK, however I also edit photo's and video using Adobe Elements/Premiere 7. I run Norton 360 as well. Just wondering if I will have too many probs with Premiere in particular.

Thanking you all in advance. Can't wait to open the box :D

It should work using easy transfer. Specifically transferring windows settings.

Or you can use Microsoft's speech recognition profile migration tool:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...0f-2e02-430e-8f99-e1acae760564&displaylang=en

Not sure exactly where they are stored. Perhaps in Users/(your user name)/appdata/local/microsoft/speech.

Can you explane the problem aroud this misterious f.40 bios update. If it kills hdxs why hp still got it uploaded on their site? Why some users report success with flashing it, others not? May be problem is with hdx model, particularly with mobo revision?

Can someone who had a success share with us his/her hdx model and mobo part number?
And finally if says I will flash it and make my hdx unusable I still would be able to send it to HP and get it repaired under warranty.

No idea what the problem is. Likely there is a component difference with those who have had sucess and those who haven't.

If it fails HP may not repair it but may offer you an HDX18. Repair can take months in the case of a BIOS flash failure as a new mobo will be required.

Exactly. Only does one thing really; enable Intel VT. If you're running a 64bit guest OS in a virtual machine, you'd benefit from it. It's not required for 3rd party hypervisors like VMware or Parallels. But Win7 has a free Xp virtual mode that requires Intel VT be enabled.

Look at those mins though, they're not good. If the framerate is over 30, the min is more important than the average. Was this a gameplay benchmark, or is it repeatable?

I now have a Dragon on my desk and feeling particularly pleased with how it is going. I really like the keyboard and the screen.

And quoting Toy Story "Impressive wingspan" :D

Transfer of speech files from old Vista computer went well.

Just a quick query. My c drive shows 287gb (the spec for the model is 320gb). I think there is a partition for system restore or something.

I had assumed that the 320gb would consist of 2 x 160gb drives. Does this mean there is an empty slot in my machine that will take an extra drive??

It's fraps and realtime gameplay from level start - hitting F11 to start benchmark and hitting F11 to stop. The low or the high is not all that important since the average in Fraps is actually a "bell curve" distribution of frame rates. And why one really can't tell when it's dropping into the low or jumping into the high while playing the game.

Congrats. Glad all is going well.

To answer the question, yes, there is a 2nd HDD bay in the HDX. In your case, it's not populated by a HDD. You can buy any 2.5" SATA HDD for it. But you will also need a caddy for it.

Since you're in Austrailia, you can get one from here: http://www.pchub.com/uph/laptop/38-40409-8979/HP-Compaq-6720s-Series-HDD-Caddy-Adapter.html

I noticed the same thing in Witcher on stock clocks, but no noticeable stuttering. Low numbers are spikes, and are generally far less frequent than one would imagine. Below 20 would likely notice if happened on a regular basis. 24 is usually cited as lowest FPS for smooth (noticeable to naked eye) gameplay. So 22 every once in a while is not a big deal.

However, his high end and average frames were pretty high. And his high was WAY above his average, which says there are places where the game is not too demanding on the GPU. The math suggests his average is helped by some high spikes as well. Or that he TRULY has a significantly higher average than with stock drivers, with some low abberations thrown in to drop his average numbers. I would gladly take the latter scenario. It depends on how you look at it. Glass half full or half empty?

However, if a game was averaging 35 with low of 20-22, then a drop ratio like his would probably make the game annoying, and I might switch back to stock or do some tweaking.

That's exactly correct. Didn't notice the low/high spikes since they must have occured as a blip. With fraps, the average is not a mathematical straight average where you add the high and low and divide by 2. It's calculated as a bell curve distribution of frame rates with the average being the peak of that curve. When you watch the FPS counter in the corner when not benchmarking, you would see high fifties to low 70's almost all of the time.

Weird I kept getting errors of not finding bass or treble..after I fully formatted my hard drive in an enclosure via my PC, I reinstalled the OSs and it works nicely thanks!

Quick question..I deleted the stupid 13GBs unallocated for the bios and expanded the hard drive to encompass it and now I can't shrink the hard drive any bit past 13GBs..is there a way around that?

I figured you'd say that..it's the same answer everyone with an HDX/or has seen one says :) You know, I was watching The Dark Knight again on Blu Ray and I noticed most of the movie was the letterbox, which made me try to think of what a screen with the same or close to the same dimensions would be like..it seemed squashed..but what was weird is there were parts of it that took up the whole HDX screen, in every direction, which makes me wonder what an HDX18 would do with the image if it was about the same dimensions of most of the movie.. I wonder what your friend with the HDX18 would say.

Sweet :) And what's extra sweet is I FINALLY learned how to use the multi quote feature! :)

Hey guys..if my max temperatures are at like 45 C with the official 185 drivers, does that mean I can go a lot higher than the suggested frequencies for overclocking the GPU with NVIDIA Performance?

Doesn't have anything to do with idle temps. Has everything to do with stability. Higher the frequencies, the higher the probability of artifacts and crashes. The other thing to factor in is to keep full load temps below 75C. Not that it can't take higher temps. But you want to leave a little headroom below 80C just in case ambient temps spike.

Dunno. How much free space is there?

It's probably locked by an unmovable system file. Try defragging the HD with a free tool called; Auslogic disk defrag.

If that doesn't work, try CCleaner's free space wipe.

Otherwise, you'd need some 3rd party program that makes a bootable disc to partition the HD.
