Ditto. Mine says the same thing. I'm using the recovery DVD so its fine.

Also save your SWSetup folder as well to someplace safe just in case.
-
Kaspersky if I remember correctly..if that doesn't work I just use Comodo, but I can't remember what I used since I had Windows 7 on a while ago. -
Anyone have an HP Quickdock with component cable out put? If so can you get it or really ANY of the video outs to work with the HDX? I've tried 4-5 of them and only one worked (no audio for some reason) for a few days then started repeating the video picture within a video picture into infinity..
-
Hey all...
Bought a 120GB OCZ vertex SSD for the HDX. Came with firmware 1.10. Runs great! Highly recommend.
Only issue is that you will not be able to update the firmware unless you have a desktop computer that allows switching the HDD port to IDE mode in BIOS.
Firmware 1.10 with trim (wiper.exe) is good enough though but it would be nice to be able to update the firmware. -

welcome to the SSD club. I can tell you the difference in 1.10 to 1.13 is fairly minimal.
you should run some crystal disk and post your results.
I am considering doing the same to my dragon -
i found comodo to be good for 64-bit
you could install just the firewall, just the antivirus, or both.

completely free for life.
you choose 32-bit or 64-bit..it's up to you. -
Thank you!

There is a newer version of Win 7. Ver 7229. copy and past this: "Windows_7_Ultimate_pre-RTM_7229_AIO_DVD_(32_and_64_bit).4949390.TPB.torrent" into Google and it will be the only link.
-
Welcome back 2.0! Hope you had a good vacation. -
What's the difference? Another leaked version? -
True, but not an ISO image file. It's a VHD (virtual hard disc) build. 7232 was just released yesterday and is the same way. So can't install the normal way.
-
7232 iso is out there....
-
If you get the one in the torrent I provided it is an ISO image. I have it installed on my computer right now.

Hey guys,
Been keeping tabs on this thread since it convinced me to buy my HDX almost a year ago now - it's a brilliant machine and continues to serve me well.
That said, it dosn't seem to take too kindly to my hard drive being cluttered; cleaning out the system drive gives me enormous performance gains that frankly don't even make sense, and I've recently been noticing some other performance issues that I have the cash to remedy
Bottom line is, I'm about ready to pump some more cash into the system. I'm aware this is one of the common requests in this thread, but I was hoping I could get some up to date info :
At the moment, I'm running Vista 64bit with 3GB, and 2x 120GB.
I'm... a LITTLE skeptical of upgrading to Win7, not because I'm distrustful of the OS itself but instead because it took me a while to get Vista 64 to work the way I wanted - I remember a lot of pain with drivers that I don't particularly care to have to go through again.
Anywho, what I'm really after here is RAM/HDD upgrade suggestions. I've built plenty of full size PCs before, but my understanding is laptops tend to be a bit fiddly by comparision. I'd quite like to bump up to the full 8 gigaroos of ram, and I don't mind paying a little for the quality stuff, too - and I'm thinking about picking up a solid state drive for my OS and core programs (80-120gb depending on cost), and perhaps a half terra for my storage drive (not too fussed about this as I have multiple externals).
Any particular advice on what I should/shouldn't be getting, compatability wise?
I'm sure I've seen a few guides about how to pull the HDX apart and put her back together again, too - and I don't imagine HDD / RAM changing to be particularly complicated, but I can't see the links to any of them at a glance, and sifting through a trillion pages can make things a bit difficult - anyone remember what page they're on/have a link?
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Oh, and if anyone is thinking about directly linking any products, then hey, thanks for making the effort, but be forewarned I'm in the UK, not the US
-
Didn't do the crystal disk, but did the ATTO result.
Sick, ain't it? -
Thanks Dom. It was both bitter and sweet. It was all good until teh very last day.
-
Seems difficult to find good suppliers in the UK...
Are these sound choices?
128GB G.SKILL SSD Drive ($300/£180): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231221
2x 4GB Crucial DDR2 667 PC2-5300 ($275/£160) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148275
In light of going for a 128GB SSD, I think I'll just skip out on the extra storage drive, and keep the stock one (unless someone can think of a good reason why a cheap upgrade would be massively worth it?) -
Know what it clocks at? -
I hear what you're saying man
-
Anyone know a way to convert VGA to Coaxial? I have one port open on my Slingbox and would like to stream my PC remotely, but every QuickDock I get doesn't seem to want to work for some reason..I've already tried 5 so far.. What I'm figuring would be best would be to use the one opened Coaxial input on the Slingbox instead of having to switch out and have to reconfigure the Component cable (assuming I ever get a Quick Dock working) since to my knowledge the only outputs are HDMI VGA and Expansion Port. Thanks.
-
PC5300 I believe.
the Corsair which is in the $300 range is PC6400 -
Glad to see you're back on the air my friend!
-
Thanks! It's good to be back. Just have to get my bearings and catch up on a lot of missed posts.

In the interests of anyone floating about these pages looking for the answers I was, I ended up just buying the following :
128GB G.Skill 2.5" SATA II Solid State Disk SSD (MLC Flash) 155/90MB/sec read/write :
http://www.memoryc.com/storage/solidstatedisk/128gbgskillsataiimlcssd.html
£175 delivered (next working day) using a coupon I googled. Will post results and first impressions when it arrives.
Still looking for a good price for the 2x4GB RAM setup in the UK, all seems a bit overpriced over here... -
Sorry that I was so busy that I couldn't advise in a timely manner.
The SSD you ordered will suffer from periodic OS stuttering and freezes. That's the nature of the SSD's with Jmicron controllers. The newest, 2nd generation, SSD's using Indilinx controllers with 64-128MB cache are not only significantly faster but don't have any of the first generation issues.
OCZ -Vertex 120GB (128GB nominal), which I have, is fantastic. I posted it's speed results. Some reviews show the G.Skill Falcon series as being a bit faster. The G.Skill Falcon series, like the OCZ Vertex, use the new Indilinx controllers and are capable of being "trimmed." Periodic trimming helps the drive maintain its performance over time. SSDs that are not trimming lose >20% of their performance rather quickly.
I know you already purchased your drive, but you will be much happier with a 2nd generation SSD instead. I stayed away from the first generation SSDs (Jmicron controller based) because of the issues associated with them. So when your drive comes, don't open it. RMA/Return it and get a 2nd generation drive like OCZ vertex or G.Skill Falcon. Trust me, you'll be happy that you did. -
Is it possible to upgrade the t8100 chip to the T9600 chip or T9800 chip?
-
Sound advice - cheers! OS stuttering is something that I'm pretty sure is going to really grate with me, even if I'm getting faster overall performance, so I think I will return that drive when it arrives (heh, that rhymed).
Having taken a second look, the G.SKILL Falcon ones seem to be the more affordable than the OCZ vertex ones.
Not sure if I want to shell out - but looking at either of these two now:
Falcon 64GB £159
http://www.memoryc.com/products/des...ache-230MB_read_135MB_write_speed_/index.html
Falcon 128GB £266
http://www.memoryc.com/products/des...ache-230MB_read_190MB_write_speed_/index.html
Still shopping around though.
What about these Intel ones I'm hearing whispers about? Are they all absurdly expensive?
Out of curiosity, does anyone know what the read/write speed of the HDX bog standard 5,400rpms is? Just trying to put the potential performance benefits into perspective
-
... I bought the G.SKILL Falcon 128gb after reading a few reviews.
Hope the first store don't object to me sending back the first SSD drive when it arrives (too late to cancel it online, according to the shop), else I guess I'm going to end up using that SSD for my second storage drive...
It's quickly dawning on me that I just spent £290 on ONE freaking hard drive, and I still have to spend another £180ish on RAM. It's approaching the cost of a half decent new desktop... and all I'm replacing is memory. Lol...
Depressing :/
How's this for memory?
http://www.pcwb.co.uk/catalogue/item/A0435818?cidp=Froogle -
That memory is fine. Decent pricing also.
Again, sorry that I wasn't quick about advising on the SSD. They shouldn't have any problems with you returning it unopened. Hopefully there won't be any restocking fees.
As for the speed of a 5400 RPM HDD, avg read/write will be around ~40-50MB/sec depending on size of drive, with a seek time of about ~15-20ms. Compared to the Falcon you got, it will be night and day. It will be on the order of 300 to 400% faster in transfer spped with a sub millisecond seek time. Vista will boot to desktop in about 30 secs. Most apps will "blink up." -
guys, i finally got my dragon. I love it so much!!! the owner was right, i was definitely in brand new condition.
i used system recovery to bring it back to factory settings and when i tried to make a recovery disc, it won't write on my Sony DVDR..... it says change brand of disc etc....
what brand of dvdr did you guys use?
also im considering on installing windows vista ultimate 64. i wanted windows 7 but i want remote and quickplay buttons to work that is why im considering windows vista ultimate... did all quickplay buttons and remote control work on this one?
thanks again -
I used HP lightscribe DVD+R media. Worked on all my HP lappies. Figures right?
-
Hey, free advice is free advice, I'm not going to have you apologise for giving it - I was the one rushing into buying...
I don't imagine it should be a problem just sending it back anyway, if I don't even open the box.
Looking forward to the general OS responsiveness that will come with the SSD upgrade, the 3gb-->8gb of RAM, and the supposed efficiency of Win7
Thanks again for your help. -
but it's hard to find one here in the middle of the desert...
I'm in UAE.
any more ideas??? -
I think I saw a guide to cleaning vents and shiz like that somewhere in this thread, but I can't remember for the life of me what page it was on - anyone know?
... yeah, I know it sounds kinda stupid, asking for a guide for "cleaning a vent", but if possible I'd like to avoid taking the whole damn machine to pieces...
My GFX card has been running a little hotter than usual recently - it's only mildly overclocked at the moment, and I'm still hitting temps as high as 76 degrees under pressure (albeit in a fairly hot environment).
Sure, still nothing to be majorly worried about, but I'd like to keep it at least a little cooler than that, for the sake of longevity
-
What is the fastest Penryn CPU upgrade for the mobile Santa Rosa platform? Currently I have the Core 2 Duo T8100...
-
T9300(2.5ghz), T9500(2.6ghz) and X9000(2.8ghz).
-
Try another brand but with +R media and not -R.
-
Thank you 2.0, however my search results for the X9000 chip to purchase has yielded no results.....Tuff chip to find so far...
-
It is hard to find and generally overpriced considering the small gain in performance over T9500 and T9600. I say overpriced because you can only do 2.8ghz with it as it cannot be overclocked in the HDX. IF you could overclock it, it would be worth prevailing market price.
Also, beware of the X9000 ES versions being sold on Ebay. -
thanks 2.0. is imation any good?
-
They're hit or miss. If you find them cheap and in small quantity, you can give them a try.
-
Do you or anyone else know the manufacture of and part number of the PLL used in our HDX's? I thought I would take a look for possible replacements that can be overclocked (of course requiring a BIOS modification). Unless someone else has already done so.
-
thanks again. btw, do you know where i can find a cover for the express card slot?
-
Congrts and welcome! All the buttons should work fine with Ultimate 64bit. I use Nexxtek DVD-R discs. -
Some brilliant guy posted a bunch of fixes and various stuff on page 100 of this thread don't miss that...
-
thanks BK

The courier attempted to deliver my SSD today.
I wasn't home.
They're going to try and deliver it on monday.
I'm distraught. I might even cry. All day the nerd-excitement has been keeping me awake at work, and now I've been crushed.
Request for emotional support and counselling. -
