I'm currently looking to add 2 additional Dell 24" monitors to my HDX Dragon laptop. I would like to place one on the left side of the dragon and the other on the right with my Dragon as the main monitor in the middle. I think it would be a great addition for gaming and work but I have a question.
I was wondering if the HDX would allow me to use that screen along with the main HDX screen. Basically a triple monitor setup. I know that you can do this with other laptops as long as the resolution is the same on both screens, but before I spend the cash I thought it would be a good idea to find out. I am thinking of going with 2 Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP 24 inch LCD Monitors which has a max resolution of 1920x1200, same as my Dragon. Besides the monitors, what other components do I need to buy to make this happen? I am currently running Windows Vista 64 bit.
I've taken a look at the Matrox Dual Head 2 Go: Multiple Monitor Adapter (Digital Edition) but to be honest I don't know what I really need. http://www.multi-monitors.com/product_p/dh2go-2.htm
Any and all information would be greatly appreciated! I am looking to make this transformation happen in the next couple weeks. I promise to post pictures once the setup is complete. Thank you to all fellow HDX Dragon owners!
Cheers from Canada!

If you could send that over, that would be great, I sent an email to your hotmail account with the address.
the hardware Ids shows:

I did this exact thing with my toshiba 17" laptop. I used the toshiba dynadoc. It's basically a usb docking station. When i originally bought it , it didnt support video on the "usb" monitor, but they have been releasing firmware updates very rapidly and it now does support this. I have really enjoyed having it. hope that helps
-
Yep, that's the one.
Check your email. -
Hey robisaks...
I tried to emial you the driver, but it keeps getting returned. So here is a rapidshare link for you.
http://rapidshare.com/files/296907059/HP_Quick_Launch_Buttons_64.zip.html -
Sweet, thanks again!
-
Well, the unknown device is gone now, and i can see the driver in the device manager. But the blue console keys still dont work :/ Very odd. Still digging.
-
Hey robisaks try this driver that i found, but in my computer still doesn't work eject button and i button of intensity bass&treble level so i can't change that, only manual from driver level

I have checked this drivr on Windows7(x86/x64)
sorry for my (maybe) bad english
PS. my machine is HDX 9250EF -
Went ahead and pulled the trigger on this.
Realized I'm gonna be keep this monster for at least another year. So I might as well have the best.
If anyone's interested, I'll be selling my T9500 ES cheap through eBay once it gets here. -
Please do let us know what the difference is you notice.
-
I'm not expecting too much of a change. It's only 8% faster, so actual performance will probably only be +5%. I'm hoping it will undervolt further as well, that would be nice.
-
I think JF's notion of 8% is an abstraction. It depends on upon what benchmarks you use. I think if you look at notebookcheck.com's analysis of gpus, you'll see that the pairing of certain cpus with certain gpus makes a world of difference, even Lancorp, who strayed away from the Jedi Knight code, believes the x9000 is spunkier

I made a topic on the HP support forums and a couple of other people concur that the graphics drivers have to be the problem (in order to recieve the error 'the vga resource is unavailable')
Google comes up with nothing on this specific error however, and i'm using all of the stock vista drivers for both the graphics card and quickplay from my SwSetup folder. Has no-one got any insight on sorting out blu-ray? Is it just me having this problem here? -
Yep, spunkier than a T8100. Indeed. That's what he updated it from. He's a true Jedi master.
But if you go by 3Dmark06/Vantage when comparing CPU/GPU combos, you'll be lead astray considering it's a composite score. (Actual games also bear this out - that there's little change if any in FPS with faster processors once you pass the CPU/GPU bottleneck since games are predominately GPU dependent.) When you drill down the component scores, you'll see that they are inline with such CPU intensive synthetics as Wprime, Drystone and Whetsone. PCMark05 gives you a close approximation of real world use.
As for the X9000 being 8% faster than a t9500(2.6ghz), that wouldn't be the case. More like 2-5% faster in real world use.
Random.
Or perhaps you meant this for a political forum? -
Hey, anyone here got one of those backpack style bags for the dragon? I currently have the Targus XXL and it's served me well but I'd rather have it backpack style.
I assume I'll have to get it shipped from another country but if someone could point me in the direction of one they'd recommend i'd be appreciative
Off back to Aus again for 3 months in Feb and will be takin my Dragon with me, it'll be the 4th trip to Aus it'll have done
This is rather tasty http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/...rrying_cases/1/accessories/KD853PA?aoid=35252
Anyone got one? Thinkin about gettin one through the Hardware reseller I contract for. -
This is basically what I said. An 8% increase in clock speed is going to give around 5% in CPU limited tasks.
-
Indeed, you did.
In responding to MobileArtist's "abstraction" comment as related to 8% - him, thinking you've underestimated performance - I wanted to set things in order.
My apologies if it appeared as if I was disagreeing with you while I was disagreeing with MobileArtist. -
No apology necessary, it was more a response to MobileArtist than you, I just quoted the last post.
-
I apologize if this has been answered before. This is one huge thread and I did try a search. This is a Windows 7 issue. I just received and installed my copy of Windows 7 Professional and have been able to install all drivers (I think) except for two which still show up under other devices, one as "Unknown Device" and the other "Mass Storage Controller." I looked up the hardware id the driver properties gave me, PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3531&SUBSYS_30D4103C&REV_01, and it is apparently an "ASUS L1N64-SLI WS/B Silicon Image SiI 3531 SATA" which I can guess affects the ESATA port which right now is not working. I did a search for these drivers on the net and only found one that did not support the OS. The unknown device doesn't have a vendor/device id, but it shows "ACPI\HPQ0006" in the hardware id properties meaning something to do with ACPI. Does anyone know how to get these devices working? Thanks.
EDIT: I did check the official drivers page referenced on page 100 and installed what I could from there, but there was no mention of an Sil 3531 driver.
EDIT2: Of course. Windows update tool. I am obviously not used to looking for driver updates among the normal security updates. Long story short, the proper drivers were installed for ESATA, leaving only the "unknown" ACPI device. Ideas? -
That's weird, the only things I had to install were the IR receiver and the quick launch buttons
My E-sata port works without any kind of install.
Maybe try this? http://www.intel.com/support/detect.htm I just ran it and it found an update for my Wireless adapter released this month

I am having some problems with my hdx16t. the two issues are that my volume down touch button turns off wifi instead of lowering the volume. i have googled this issue and some people have had other issues with the volume controls also. i have tried the fixes that people posted such as new drivers, the unplug everything and let power drain out, and reinstall drivers to no avail. my other issue is that my display resolution keeps changing to that of team fortress 2. the display resolution is changed each time i open the lid back up after closing it or when i restart the computer after i have played tf2. can anybody help?

i know that there is a hdx16 forum on this notebookreview board, dedicated to your computer. this is the HDX20 forum, the original and only Dragon. perhaps you are better served there.

Unfortunately, this driver did not work either :/ I'll keep digging.

Hey guys I am still lurking in the shadows. Missing my old Dragon. I went to the dark side.
That is a nice backpack. It is quite large, but fits the Dragon great. There is enough room to pack for an over nighter. -
Good to see you. Nice Specs on your new laptop in your sig. Blows the HDX away.

This is the one I used on Windows 7 Professional 64-bits
Worked for me.
Uploaded it to filefront for you

and what about your fast access buttons? are they all responding? specifically i'm curious about the response of eject and bass/treble controls -
8800M exploded the other day - can only boot in Safe mode, or by disabling the display device and booting in VGA mode. Checked my warranty - 12 days past the warranty date
Send an email to HP, wondering how much it would cost me to get a replacement 8800M if I sent it in, and I got this back :
Jonathan, a service order has been initiated to pick up your notebook on 2nd November 2009. It may take upto 9 days for the notebook to be returned to you. Please find the service order details given below. As your notebook was just out of warranty by 12 days, we have picked up your notebook for a warranty repair as an exception.
Brilliant!

Just pray they don't say "We can't fix it, here's a loaded HDX18T instead..."
-
Wow. That was nice of them.

Sorry to learn of that. Were there any warning signs that the card was going down beforehand? I noticed your overclock of 600/950/1600, which may be kind of high considering. Were you monitoring temps?

Eject button doesn't work.
Don't know about QuickPlay, because I don't have it installed here
EDIT: I've been able to get the eject button to work. Quick play buttons work too, internet button works, volume button works, forward, rewind etc works.
Going to test the Treble and bass right now.
2nd edit: looks like the treble and bass don't work, I hear no difference in music etc. Also the TV button doesn't work.
All other buttons do work.
Here are the links to what drivers etc I used:
Quick Launch buttons: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp44501-45000/sp44777.exe
Tone Control: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45501-46000/sp45617.exe
HP Media Smart Menu: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45001-45500/sp45140.exe
I do not know which one of these drivers has fixed my quickplay buttons and my eject button

Just an FYI for any of you (like me) who has an X-25 (Gen 2) SSD in your HDX Dragon and were waiting for the new Trim-enabled firmware that was released this week. Intel's now pulled its SSD Toolbox and associated TRIM firmware update amid reports that it was bricking drives under Windows 7.
Gory details here: http://communities.intel.com/thread/7693?start=0&tstart=0 -
When you answered this, I was wondering what this had to do with my post, but I downloaded and installed it since this was another thing I was looking for. Well actually I searched and found what I thought was this upload by name since the one from your link was maxed out (ten downloads max). It turned out to be "incompatible" but still turned on the launch/eject buttons.
Since I was concerned about the startup message, I uninstalled that one and installed this instead- works like a charm, no incompatibility message. I decided then to look in my device manager to see if maybe you weren't insane to give me an off-topic reply
and it turns out your reply was spot on- no more unknown device. Thanks very much.

Hi Everybody, As I beleive you are all HDX laptop users I would like to ask you for help as HP is unable to help me. They want my laptop back for repair. I own HP HDX X16-1005EA Premium Notebook PC.
The problem is as follows:
Example: when hibernate the laptop. Then switch it back on with mains button and do not touch any key of button.
Within 2 minutes the laptop automaticaly hiberante !!!
This happens on both ( mains power supply and battery as well )
if I will touch any button or key during this 2 minutes period the lapptop would not hibernate untill it reaches the set time ( see bellow )
troubleshooting : I checked the time when the omputer is set to hibernate in advanced power settings and it is as follows:
hibernate after:
120 minutes on battery
1080 minutes plugged in
sleep after:
10 minutes on battery
25 munutes plugged in
I am curently using HP Recommeded power plan and if I switch to other plans ( Power Saver or High Performance ) it does not make any difference.
I also tried to set the hibernationand sleep to never but again no difference.
I also tried to use the recovery DVD to reinstal the operating system ( just in case this is caused by some virus ? ) but it does not make any difference !!!
The problem is still there altough the OS was re - installed so it can not be used by additional software, virus or so.
I am running latest BIOS version F31.A and regulary using HP update service to update all drivers etc.
setting changes : No nothing was added or changed.
Could you please check this on your laptops if this is normal ? I do not think so but I am not sure these days
thanks a lot for your help and reply.

Well.....Windows 7 is definitely a great operating system, compared to previous creatures... however, I've been having a few problems, and (once again) HP won't help me with them since I didn't purchase my Windows 7 operating system from THEM. First, it won't hibernate. Everything appears to be set correctly to hibernate - have even done the elevated command prompt thing to ensure it's truly "turned on". Have checked to make sure no program might be keeping it from hibernating. When I click hibernate, it just returns me to the login screen...it never hibernates. It just sits there indefinitely on the login screen. I have to do a shutdown, or settle for just using "sleep".....which I don't want to do.
Also, after having my computer running for a few hours downloading something or doing other tasks, the quickplay buttons (all the blue lit up ones across the top of the keyboard) "shut off". I have to restart the computer to get them to work again. Lastly, if I try to adjust the volume using the "slider" button in the quickplay buttons, the "pop-up" that comes on the screen when you tap it won't go away. It also won't even make any difference in sound 3/4 of the time when I try adjusting the volume with it. It just sits there "frozen" on the screen, sometimes eventually going away after 30 minutes, sometimes only going away after a restart. I've got the drivers installed, as recommended on the forum here.
So, I'm frustrated with fighting with the volume button(s), having the quickplay buttons all turn off, and not being able to hibernate. Any suggestions? -
I still have Vista 64 bit. Can anyone post a link or 2 or 3 or direct me on where to get the cheapest upgrade to windows 7 64 bit?
I should have bit at the $50 preorder deal back in june/july, but I didn't.
Also, when upgrading, is there a "Clean" way of doing it, without having all the Vista junk on there first, then adding/replacing to Windows 7 (I'm guessing ther would be remnants of Vista as opposed to a clean install).
Thanks guys. -
Try the suggestions in this Microsoft Knowledgebase article:
Windows 7 does not go to sleep
SYMPTOMS
You may experience the following issues on a desktop or a notebook that is running Windows 7, when you try to put the computer to sleep.
The computer wakes immediately after you put it to sleep.
The computer randomly or unexpectedly wakes after sleep.
The computer does not go to sleep. Instead, it stays awake.
THINGS TO TRY
To fix this problem, try the following methods in order until you resolve the problem.
Update the drivers to the latest version
Check the Power Option settings
Prevent device(s) from waking the computer
MORE INFORMATION
Update the drivers to the latest version
The first step to resolve your problem is to make sure that you have the most current drivers for all your hardware devices (especially the driver for your video card). To obtain the latest drivers for Windows 7, you can use Windows Update or you can check your hardware device manufacturer's Web site. For more information, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware ( http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/...mmended-drivers-and-updates-for-your-hardware)
Check the Power Option settings
The next step is for you to check your Power Option settings. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, type power sleep in the Start Search box, and then click Change when the computer sleeps.
In the Put the computer to sleep box, select a new value such as 15 minutes. However, make sure that you do not select Never. Then, click Change advanced power settings.
Expand Sleep, expand Allow waker timers, and then select Disable.
Note This setting prevents programs from waking your computer. If you want a scheduled task to wake your computer, you have to change this setting back to Enable.
Expand Multimedia settings, expand When sharing media, and then select Allow the computer to sleep.
Note This setting lets your computer go to sleep even if you share media libraries with other computers in your home network.
Disable the device(s) from waking the computer
The last step for you to try is to disable any devices that might wake your computer. To disable these devices, follow these steps:
Start an elevated command prompt. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, type cmd in the Start Search box, right-click cmd, and then click Run as administrator.
To see the list of all devices that can wake the computer, run the following command:
Powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
To disable a specific device from waking the computer, run the following command or use Device Manager.
Note Make sure that you substitute devicename with the name of the device that you want to disable.
Powercfg -devicedisablewake "devicename"
If this issue still occurs after you disable one device, disable the devices in this list one by one until you determine which device is causing the issue. If you want to re-enable a device to wake the computer, run the following command:
Powercfg -devicenablewake "devicename" command.
Disable devices using Device Manager
You can also use Device Manager to disable or enable a device to wake the computer. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, type device manager in the Start Search box, and then click Device Manager. Locate and then double-click the device that you want disable or enable. On the Power Management tab, clear or check Allow this device to wake the computer as needed.

If you're not concerned w/ being all legit right off the bat.....if you are able to download Windows 7 somewhere, a trial or something, I have an "activator" for it. Of course, this info is just for "educational purposes"....that way you can try before you buy..... Then you can buy it if it seems to meet your computer needs. I would never advocate doing anything different.

Hi guys new to the forum but I recently got a HDX9010 and have appreciated the volume of great information here. I have had few problems because of your input on the board.
I have however run into a real issue trying to use the xb4 docking station. Most things work well but I cannot get the power to charge the battery or run the computer.
Contacted HP and after bouncing around the world still don't have a real answer. They replaced the media station but the new one has the same problem. Now they say it is the power cord and insist I should send both units in to them. Not
I got a smart ac adapter and same problem. I wonder if there is any help here with this.
Thanks

thanks but no. i want to make sure it doesn't break on a future update and is clean, not to mention other things.

straight from microsoft.
you just need a .edu email address (i'm sure you know someone, if not a student yourself). -
My system came with Vista 64bit Ultimate. I bought the upgrade 64bit Pro and did a clean install. No old ID was asked for or needed. Insert the Win 7 disk and do a cold boot. I formated the c: drive from within the upgrade disk software to ensure no old files were utilized and windows.old was not created. I then followed the instructions on Post 6801. That post assumes you have copied the original Vista HDX setup files to a data or external drive and utilize them when necessary. Also it helps to have all the HP drivers referenced on the post on your data or external drive so you don't have to download them. It takes me less than 2 hours to clean install Win 7 and all my other programs on an SSD. I have non-functioning base and treble buttons, but everything, and I mean everything else works, but I had a lot of practice with the beta versions.
