Competely wipes your HDD and sets back the partition it makes to original active state. AFAIK.

The bezel is attached by "snaps" on tabs. If the new drive has the tabs slots of the same size and location, then it'll work. Also, the eject button on the bezel must also align with the eject dimple switch on the drive itself.

Control panel/device manager. Right click on the authentec AES2501A. Click uninstall. Make sure you check the delete driver box. Then hit ok. That'll bring you back to the Win7 default driver.

    Uninstall the digital persona software.

Download and install SP45355 - contains both driver and latest Digital persona software. (At least that works with firefox 3.55)

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3717593&os=4063&lang=en

I use this on both my TX2500 and HDX without issue.

But in theory i could use it without a bezel, i assume the eject switch is still easy to press?

Yes you definitely could use a drive without the bezel.

Checking out the optical drive installation on the HP HDX maintenance and service guide i see the caddy/bracket the drive is attached to is via 2 screws at the rear of the drive.....is this a universal screw position and would line up with holes on the UJ-210 / UJ-220?

Yes it is. And the hdx plastic bezel fits 100% to the UJ-210S; the eject button aligns 100% and so does the LED light.

I have been using the 5300 for months now, works great, 270Mbps. FYI, for ease of use you can turn the wi-fi on/off using the "Windows key" + "X". Easy shortcut as opposed to the device manager.

I'm scared. Lol. Cool thanks. Makes getting the 5300 seem like less of a hassle. I think all my problems are because of the way the HDX interacts with Service Pack 2 and the recovery DVD.. I guess I'll have to reformat again and this time skip sp2.. I keep getting Windows Registration crashed, other devices crash, the Windows Experience won't work, as you said I think the Matrox thingy is messed up..

    Hi all

I just received the two copies of Windows 7 upgrade that I pre-ordered from Newegg, one for me and one for my son. The boy now decided he wants to go with a Mac (teenagers...) and doesn't need his copy. I was going to send his back, but before I do I figured I would offer it to someone on this awesome forum just in case someone missed out on the pre-order. $99.99, just what it cost me. Thanks!

    what? are you insane

preorder was $50...you trying to make a profit now? ;)

regular upgrade price for home premium is $99 right now...that's just regular price. you can easily find it for a lot less as has been posted here, but you want to offer someone the same as regular price??? c'mon...i know this post is a joke.

i thought you were going to give it for free+$5 for shipping.

nice try...send it back then and get your $50.

A suggestion... when you do install win7, go for the clean install rather than upgrade. It runs faster and believe it or not, boots in nearly half the time when you do the clean install method.

Upgrade discs allow for clean install.

    You're welcome.

I forgot the Ricoh Card Reader driver in the original post.

The only other driver you would need is the TV tuner driver. USe the one that came with the HDX. That on works in Windows 7.

2.0, I may have followed your instructions incorrectly or out of order, as I'm not getting any success :(

    1. I go into device manager, click uninstall and check the box to remove etc etc.
    2. Then go into control panel and uninstall the digital persona software. As it uninstalls, it informs me the computer needs to reboot to finish uninstalling.
    3. I let it reboot.
    4. As Win7 loads up after reboot, windows automatically starts installing a driver for the fingerprint scanner before I can install sp45355.
    5. Because windows has auto-installed a driver before I could run sp45355, I go back into device manager and again, find authentec driver AES2501A...
    6. ...so I repeat step #1
    7. Then I ran sp45355 and let it finish. (It apparently installed the driver and a AuthenTec software, NOT Digital Persona software...)
    8. Nothing happens. No prompt to run fingerprint enrollment, nothing. I can't find this "authenTec" software in my programs list either, even though I swear the installation of sp45355 told me it was installing.
    9. Because there was no apparent software was installed, I load up the installation of "Digital Persona Personal 4.0" which I have an independent copy of.
    10. After Digital Persona Personal 4.0 installs, and it tries to run fingerprint enrollment, it cannot find the fingerprint scanner and tells me to install appropriate drivers.

    HELP!!

My bad. I installed win7 on 3 different computers and missed a file.

Download the latest digital persona from this post: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=338874

It's version 4.11.3805 currently. That's what I used on the HDX. You should be up and running thereafter.

I'm sure this has been addressed, but I have a few questions, and this thread is 800 pages long. My story: got my HDX Dragon in the summer of 08 before heading off to college. No problems with it, been running just fine, but now both my HD's are full. Almost everyone says to get an external HD, but I really don't want to have my media on a seperate HD. I was hoping someone could give me some info about upgrading one of the internal HD's. I was hoping for something like 500GB. Is this going to be hard to do?

Oh, and If I missed out on anything really important in these 800 pages, do tell.

Ok first off, what is your HDD Size?? Are you using 2 HDDs?? (some Dragons came with 2 HDD, some with 1). If you are using 2 HDDs, then upgrading will be a little more work because you will need to not only remove the old secondary HDD and install the new one, but you will also have to transfer your media to the new one.

If you are only using one, then it's pretty straightforward. Install the new HDD, then move your media to the new one.

There is a service manual that shows you how to replace or add a new HDD.

    The manual is HERE.

One more thing, the largest size notebook HDD that is known to fit the Dragon is 640GB. Newegg has one Here. While there are larger ones available (750GB and 1TB), they are thicker than the average notebook HDD and there is a chance they will not fit the Dragon. I was planning on getting one from Newegg to test if it would fit the Dragon, but they have sold out of them.

I hope this helps. Good Luck.

Get one of these, I have one in my system and it is a very simple swap, plug and play. Takes maybe 2 minutes to swap in a new hard drive.

Ok, it seems as this should be pretty simple then, though I do currently have 2 160's in it now. I'm sure I can borrow a external to copy files to while I switch in the new one. I was also thinking of maybe doing a clean install of windows 7 on the 160 (currently running vista), and keep my files on the larger HD. Actually, it'd be really cool to do the OS install on a SSD, but I guess that might be a bit out of my budget.

    Thanks guys.

OK, you have the right idea. If you are going to do the clean install, then I will strongly suggest that you copy the SWSETUP folder from your C drive. That way you will have drivers for everything (Vista Drivers work in Windows 7).

And if you do the clean install, I also recommend going back to post number 6791. Eclypse3D wrote a detailed post on how to install Windows 7 on a Dragon and have just about everything working when completed, including the fingerprint reader. I have followed his post and I can say with certainty that it does work. All of the drivers in his post are the ones from the SWSETUP folder. So if you copy that to the second HDD or an external, you will be good to go.

My only issue is getting rid of Windows Media Player lol.

The post I referenced is Here. (Keep in mind, this link will only work if you have your forum viewing options set to default, which is 10 views per page.)

I have a HDX9270EG and I have installed Windows 7 (Official - Professional 32 bits) all is all right except when I touch on the volume or bass/treble tactile key, an error popup displays : "Failed while getting Treble and/or Bass level".

    More precisely :

    - when I touch the volume :

    "Failed while getting Bass Level"

    - when I touch the bass/treble :
"Failed while getting Increased Treble Level"
"Failed while getting Increased Bass Level"

My drivers are Vista Based, I have upgrade my driver HP QuickTouch v.1.00C (sp37799.exe) by HP QuickTouch v.1.00D (sp38358.exe) but always the same problem...

I have try a lot of driver but without sucess ! :(

However, I have found these tracks :

Would it be more convenient just to do an upgrade from vista to 7 instead of a clean install?

If your Vista is in perfect order, then the answer is definitely Yes. Win7 here cold boots in 50 seconds to fully usable/responsive Desktop (I have many peripherals and startup items--not the average, and I don't disable any of Win7 default services) and it was an in-place upgrade.
P.S. I don't have an SSD either; only the factory installed 250GBx2 drives.

FYI, I got my battery also. No date code sticker like on the original. Only a barcode that has no discernible date code.

Also, there was NO CHARGE in it when I popped it in. At least not enough to turn on the Dragon.

    Charging it now.

    Hey guys,
so I took the plunge and installed Windows 7. First two issues I have:

    1) The eject button won't work to eject the BD-ROM. Fix?

    2) What is the best video driver for the HDX 9494nr (nVidia 8800M GTS) from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com for Win7 64bit???

Any help would be appreciated. I will also have to look into installing the Quickplay stuff eventually...

    TIA!

Check your nvidia driver--I am currently running 186.91 (Microsoft Windows Update-WHQL) and don't have this issue in your screenshot. I was previously running 186.81 (NVIDIA Notebooks WHQL) and also didn't have this issue with it.
Another possible factor: I am running 64-bit Windows 7. Maybe your 32-bit setting has something to do with this.
OSD is a function of QuickTouch (called by QuickLaunch), so you may wish to check that you have the correct version of QuickTouch properly installed (mine was already factory installed in Vista--an older version can be found at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...ob-56178-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&os=2100&lang=en ). In latter notebooks, QuickTouch has been replaced by SmartMenu for OSD functions. SmartMenu is not for our HDX, but the latest QuickLaunch (Keyboard filter/driver) 6.50.7.1 can be used on our HDX and should work with our existing QuickTouch.

That looks like a QuickTouch issue. You should check and see which version of QuickTouch you are using. Uninstalling it would fix the glitch, but you still need the correct version. I am using ver. 1.00 C3 or SP37799. If you are using a different version, try uninstalling and restarting, then install sp37799.

If you are using the same version as I am, try uninstalling and restarting and then re-installing it. Something may have gone wrong during the initial installation. I hope this helps.

that's right you ordered also. no date code.hmmmm...how did they ship it...package, etc.?

NO CHARGE? well that doesn't surprise me. If 2.0's calculations are right (personally I think it taking several months to discharge completely from a full charge is too generous but....) then this is in fact over a year old and been sitting on a shelf.

The real question is, if your in fact correct about cells dying when completely dead, than this should not hold a charge well? Please let us know after you fully charge it, and when you have a chance, how long this lasted on battery (high performance default settings (or even brightness level for screen on battery) preferred.

Just wondering. If it is dead...the battery....I assume it's been that way for awhile...so this will test the theory of losing life from being dead.
