Dragon Age, Witcher, Mass Effect, Risen, Age of Conan, D&D Online, Sacred 2, Oblivion, Drakensang...and others I've played in last 2 years...all can be played on medium -> high with some mix of settings. (I haven't played Crisis, but I'm sure it's one of the exceptions.) Most on high. Even on medium to get some better framerates, games look amazing on the HDX. Just keep it on native resolution and adjust until the game runs smooth. If you get any games that auto detect settings, don't be afraid to bump them up.

No , there's nothing better ATM. There is no way to get it to work with the wifi button on the quicktouch panel with this card since you have to install it in slot 2.
Once you install it, the wifi button only controls the bluetooth radio. -
Service packs are culmulative. Meaning, youonly have to install service pack 2, not 1.
-
Since you don't have access to a desktop, your best bet is to get retail since it will have v 1.4 of the firmware with is win7 Trim compliant. If you get one off ebay that is likely old stock, it needs to have at least v 1.10 of the firmware so you can use wiper.exe - which is manual Trim. If it is earlier v of the firmware, you can at the most flash to 1.10 firmware with the HDX.
1.10 is the only "destructive" firmware that you can flash to using teh HDX because it flashes the entire firmware of the drive. If you want more specifics about 1.10, you have to go on OCZ's website.
Key to overclocking is:
No crashes, good temps, no artifacts. -
Games that use Physx: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PhysX
Most games don't use Nvidia's PhysX so you really shouldn't be so concerned about it. It doesn't add all that much anyway. It's nice on Age of Empires III. The best Physics engine I've played with is the one used on Crysis and Far Cry 2. They use their own physics engine, not Nvidia's Physx.
I play nearly all games on MAX @ native res. T9300 with an overclocked 8800 of 610/975/1525.
Cyrsis; I play with a mix of high and med with textures set to ultra high.
Frame rates vary by game but are always above 30. Some games like RTS games max @ 30 by design.
Crysis gets avg 27-29 with those settings. Can peak in the high 40s. Depends on what's going on.
Frame rates have been going up with better drivers. Since the 167 driver, I've gained more than 10 FPS in all games. -
Don't think there is a way to do that via software.
-
When I tried to do the service pack 2, as a separate download directly from Microsoft, it says you can't unless you have service pack 1.
-
And so it is. Apparently slipstreaming is different.
-
But there was an order of how to install it right? Like you had to have the original one in first, turn it off, replace it, or someone mentioned you had to do something else as well to get it to work without complication no?
-
Nice info thanks. I know what to look for now in both regards.
-
Right, just make sure your bluetooth radio is on first using wireless assistant. This way the quicktouch panel can be used to turn the bluetooth radio on/off. If you don't like to see an orange light on that panel, like me, just run your bluetooth radio all the time.
As for the wifi radio, use windows key + X or device manager to turn it on or off. -
no big deal i guess for the light on the cam. hardware maybe though? i mean is there a way to disable just the light by opening up the webcam part?
thanks guys for the gaming replies. i know crysis is an old game. is it worth it you think? is crysis 2 available and/or is it even playable with the dragon?
best deal on crysis...where...coupon codes?? -
For PhysX games/demos and more try NVIDIA's samplers: http://www.nvidia.com/content/graphicsplus/us/download.asp
The CPU is extremely important in very many graphics/gaming situations. Many games will show a noticeable 15%+ boost with a better CPU. With an X9000, you can run Second Life (OpenGL) maxed at WUXGA (highest graphics + AF and 4x AA - no shadows). -
Sure, but you've have to dismantle the webcam unit to disable the light. Simplest solution is a well cut piece of electrical tape.
Crysis 2 won't be available until perhaps fall 2010. It should be playable on the HDX since the new engine will be a scalable cross platform engine.
Crysis and Crysis Warhead are excellent games and definitely worth getting. Great gameplay and a very good story line. Plus there are user maps available.
Other games worth getting are the Call of duty series. Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2.
Wolfenstein was fun but not as fun and tongue in cheek as Return to Castle Wolfenstien.
Left 4 dead series is a blast! Mindless zombie killing that'll have you laugh out loud.
These are all first person shooters. -
Though the grand majority of games are DirectX based and not OpenGL. So once you pass the CPU/GPU barrier, CPU speed becomes irrelevant. A T8300 (2.4ghz) paired with a 8800M passes that barrier nicely.
After that what's most important for getting the most out of games on a notebook is pairing GPU with a native screen resolution that is commensurate with its power.
For instance, with most 13-16" notebooks with mid-tier graphic cards, they are best paired with 1366x766 screens. For the HDX that uses an enthusiast card, albeit the lowest powered one, 1680x1050 is best. -
I have a T8100 and I run Secondlife on the highest settings with no issues whatsoever. I stopped using my server to run Secondlife because the Dragon does a much better job with it. The CPU in my server is more powerful than my Dragon's CPU, and the Server has more RAM. It's Video card is an old ATI 3450 w/ 512MB of RAM.
-
2,
tape...duh. i guess the simplest solutino may be the best. didn't want to get glue gunk on it unless it comes off.
about games. thanks. will look into it. i think i am thinking too much. i saw mirrors edge for less than $10 shipped on amazon. wondering if i should get it for such a cheap price, but i was reading about some securerom thing and how it's bad for a computer??? so i held off on that. -
You don't need "native" in this sense. You can still run at WXGA resolution on a WUXGA screen, for example. I even run some old apps at 800x600, 1024x768 or 1280x800 full screen on my WUXGA. They look nice. If you want so, you can also reduce Windows "native" Desktop resolution, e.g., to 1680x1050 on a WUXGA screen, in three mouse clicks.
Assassin's Creed is another example of a game benefiting greatly from a CPU boost and it's DirectX. However, there is a barrier as you have nicely said, beyond which you need a more powerful GPU! (for example, when you want to turn on 'per pixel lighting and shadows' in Second Life and still enjoy 20+ fps at highest graphics) -
An 8800M GTS will definitely beat that old ATi. After selecting the 'Highest' tick manually in the graphics tab, have you also clicked Hardware Options > Anisotropic Filtering (on) and Antialiasing (4x)? (Per pixel lighting and shadows are not practical on a 8800M GTS)
Most importantly, what is your fps at 'Highest' (e.g., I run at highest with AF on and 4xAA and 30-35+ fps sustained, even in geometrically complex scenes) -

Yes, that's true. But nothing looks as good as native resolution on an LCD. The further away (down in resolution) you go, the worse it'll look.
Some folks don't mind it though. -
its true 2. i always wondered what's wrong with a few different lcd's i had and at friends' houses but when i put it on the max resolution. everything looked crips and clear.

GeForce GTX 360 and 380 Benchmarks
By Hilbert Hagedoorn, December 14, 2009 - 2:55 PM
http://www.guru3d.com/news/geforce-gtx-360-and-380-benchmarks/
Impressive (if proven real)! -
For games, the slight edge "fuzziness" could partially act as a 'computationally cheap' substitute for some antialiasing; scenes still look very sharp (WXGA on WUXGA). However, in practice, not so many games would run any faster/better or at higher settings (eye candy) under the immediately lower resolution (one step lower: WXGA on WUXGA), unlike what many people think. But your mileage might vary.
-
When i first tested Secondlife on it I turned on everything. I don't usually test FPS for Secondlife, but I did with the Dragon. results were about the same as yours.
As for the ATI, it actually worked great, as I could run about 8 instances of Secondlife with little to no slowdown and all of them were still on screen, not minimized. I believe the most I have tried on the Dragon is 10. Same results, all were on screen, not minimized, and all had little to no slowdown. -
hi
finally i found this topic
unfortunely i havent had the time to read all the pages
sry,but over 800 is way to heavy xD
but what i figured out is that some of you, especially dv7t, wants to hear something about the hdx and gaming
as a matter of fact iam gamer, yes i have to admit
so i can tell u a little bit about the hdx and games and all the stuff:
i have the hdx9480 with the following components:
------------------------------
- os = windows 7 x64 ultimate
as you can read on the hp website,hp doesnt and wont support win 7 on this hdx
but i can asure you,win 7 work perfectly
- t8300 2,4 ghz
- 8800 gts ;D (what else)
- 640gb hdd
i allways oc my card when iam playing games
i use the tool "nvidia system tools"
trust me,its the best xD
for this system, thats 4 sure, because of rivatuner and all the other stuff are freaking me out
nvidia system tools are easy to use,do not making any kind of trouble
i normaly use this setting for my oc:
600/880/1500
with this setting i get 4200 in 3dmark 2006 pro
i use the newest driver 195 from nvidia
its not the fastest but the imagequality is better
before that i used mcustomdrivers like "dox"
they are really fast but hets up your card very much oO
i could oc it to 600/900/1600,getting maybe 4500-5000 in 3dmark06 no problem, but the card is heating up to much 4 me and
i love my hdx and dont want to loose it that fast xD
whats matter is a playable game an da stable, not really ultrahot card
i dont want to get the price for the guy with freakiest oc of a hdx who finally has to buy another hdx 2 month later due to melting of the card hahahahaha
600/880/1500
i think thats quite enough, iam not the kind of person who wants to **** up with the card
like some other guys did before hahaha
with this setting ur card runs smoothly but not getting hotter then 67 degrees oO and thats quite safe 4 me xD
and another bonus of this setting is that the fan will not wake up your girlfriend when u are gaming hahahaha
iam able to play of course doom 3 with highest settings (ultra) and 4x aa and 8x af
resolution is 1600x1200, has to force the resolution in doom3 because of the game only support the resolution up to 1280x1024 -.-
4 all of u out there -> use rivatuner,there u can force the game to 1600x1200 ;D
iam also able to play crysis on a mixture of high settings and middle textures
trust me,u cant play crysis on ultra or all high on a hdx
even not if u have a supreme processor ;D
its the card who limits it,the card only has 512 mb,and crysis needs at least 1024 for really high settings, thats a fact, i played it years ago on my pc (sli 8800gtx)
with my settings iam able to play crysis with 24-30 fps
i also play games like world in conflict on highest settings with 4aa and 8af (thats my default config, everything higher than that is a waste of power, trust me)
in wic i get on 1600x1200 24-28 fps, what is quite good to play
and it looks really nice though
another game is mirrors edge
is us emy default config (4aa,8af,1600x1200) and get playable 25 fps
looks realy nice to me
ut3 is also one of my favourite games
i doesnt need really much to play that game with ultra settings
dont know why,but its a fact
1600x1200 ,8aa !!,16 af !!! --> 30-40 fps oO
no kidding
that game likes the hdx hahahha
another game: c&c tiberium wars (1600x1200,4aa,8af -> 30fps all the time, limits at 30 fps by default)
and yes,another game,like i said before-> u got me,iam a gamer
tomb raider underworld
(1600x1200,4aa,8af-> 25-28 what is ok 4 me)
lara never looks sexier before hahaha
i also tried dragon age and it worked with my default settings like above with 22fps
but i dont like that game really much because of its stupid character design and the aweful animations of the faces of the characters (watch the eyes of the characters, they never move oO ,stupid)
so i dump this sh** away haha, waste of space if u ask me
but as u can see, even the newest game is playable with 22 fps, not good but ok
puhhhhh, i hope i could give u all a little overview about gaming and the hdx
finally i got a advise 4 all of u who want to oc the 8800 gts
--> do it with your brian
ocresults like 600/920/1520 or higher are nice, but will finally mess up your card
and lets get true about this-> laptops are not ment to be oc
,fact
they dont have the cooling like pcs,and dont forget-> when the card heats up all the other stuff inside also heats up !!!
and like before hp did a good joob to screw up with the heating -.-
in the hdx all the heatpoints are on the left side oO
on the right side of my laptop i can put a bottle of beer on it and wait to see if its getting icecrystals but on the lefts side i can drie my hands
funny stuff hehe
so all the heating up parts are on the left side, with not so much space between them, another fact to let us not oc the the card to much xD
if u wanna a hell of a gaming maschine buy u a asus g72vx or stuff like that
it cheaper then a new hdx and got double or maybe tripple of the power of the fastest hdx
btw -> do u also have the trouble with the accu ?
my accu dont go above 26 % -.-
its always stuck by 26%
i tried a advice by a user -> plugin and plugout the cable many times but it doesnt work out 4 me :C
i there a solution for users with win 7 or vista, because the error seems to happen only on vista and/or win7
thx
cya

you keep saying 1600x1200...what screen do you have???? Why run 4:3 on a wide screen? Supposing you have the wuxga screen, why not at least keep aspect if you reduce resolution?
-
i am assuming he meant 1680x1050 but who knows.
-
From what I've read you can upgrade the CPU to the a 2.8GHZ Core2Xtreme but it's not overclockable, others would recommend the 2.5GHZ (I have it and want the 2.8 haha), GPU 2.0 has tried the NVIDIA 280 and could only get blurry images, it has been suggested that if you are good with modding you can try the 3700 by HP but it is not guaranteed to work since the video bios is locked and it's not made to get upgraded. Maximum Ram you can use is 8GBs which is what I use and love. Many would recommend the 2x4GB GSkills, which I you can still buy at NewEgg or Ebay.

or

SSD hard drives are also recommended, particularly for the first hard drive so you can install the main software you use to the first drive so it's super fast along with boot up time, and store things on the second hard drive. Do you have 2x 500GB hard drives or one 1TB hard drive? If the latter which one are you using? I'm THINKING about getting Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, but the OEM disk idea, though cheaper, kinda sucks I think being tied to the motherboard it's installed on.. Which Windows 7 did you get and how much did you spend if I may ask? -
Second Life has its own built-in comprehensive statistics mini-window; just display it. Helps troubleshooting when low fps is due to server-side issues/lag.
When you run multiple SL windows, only the (top) one receiving user focus is consuming the most processing resources and priority. You can enable CPU threading in SL's Advanced options (Ctrl-Alt-D) for slightly better performance. -
There are different versions of it. I don't know if you read any of the posts on the X9000, but from what I can remember if you can get the retail version that one I think is best. You have to watch out for engineering samples, something about the stepping in one or two of them were the ok ones, the other's I think were not recommended. I cannot seem to find the info on the X9000 so if 2.0 can chime in to that I'll be sure to save it this time around. For XP, you said ALL drivers worked?? Are you saying you could get bass to work in the subwoofer for the HDX as well? BTW from what I understand the 800mhz memory would be slower in the HDX because it's not meant for it.
-
Can you use the Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OEM disk to reformat? For the 10 license thing Lancorp mentioned for 300 some dollars, can you burn the download of Windows 7 to a dvd?
-
I think Dominick_7 was referring to the Microsoft Technet Subscription as far as the 10 licenses and download/burn...
-
Just letting all you people with 8800 GTS 512's in your Dragons know that the most recent Nvidia graphics driver 195.62 has returned audio over HDMI to actually working in Windows 7 x64
No more having to switch back to my Vista partition to use the old 17X.XX drivers
-
Odd mine has work all along with Win7 x64. Glad to hear it is now working for you though.
-
amazing. it was only after you posted this did i decide to try again. i tried this a long time ago and abandon it. now.... IT WORKS! Sound works now with this driver from nvidia on vista 64bit through hdmi...it didn't before.
here is one thing that i do not see a little sadly....well maybe i don't know where it is.
before you could go into the nvidia control panel and have it scale to fit your tv. as it is even though i have 1920x1080 res. on the tv, and set in the video settings. it runs off the screen by a bit. and there is no way i can see to click a button as before and make it fit. -
quick other quesiton. as far as outputting to a tv and only a tv, as opposed to dual display monitor and tv....does this actually eat up the battery (if on battery and probably won't be...but good to know if i am elsewhere or whatever) faster, slower, or the same, as far as anyone knows?
i noticed no heat from the lcd when doing so, because it's off, so i assume it takes less not having the lcd on the hdx lit up? how else, if at all, would/might it wear the hdx, that is...outputting it to the tv only, as opposed to computing on the lcd.
i'm loving doing web browsing on the big screen vs. the lcd, which is still really nice. but i would be able to relax in bed and go on the net. i've got a big 52" tv just 10 feet away and it's really nice. -
NEVERMIND about the fitting to my screen. i found it under Display>Adjust desktop size and position. i believe this time it actually shows actual pixels. weird that my tv seems to be only 1850ish x 1040ish.

Nvidia 195.81 beta released.
Please choose your operating system!
Have not tested it yet. -
Would you be so kind as to post or PM the link please? -
Correcto, but both that and the other thing too.
-
Yep just a minor update. Here are the release notes:
This driver is identical to the 195.62 WHQL drivers except for the following:
* Several bug fixes to support the new Adobe Flash 10.1 Beta 2 release. Learn more here.
* Adds new SLI and multi-GPU profiles for Avatar Demo, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Demo, and Wings of Prey. -
i hav ethe hdx 9480eg
-> in everest it says maximum 4gb ram
am i also able to use 8gb anyway ?
or is it really limited to 4gb ?
and btw-> i use of course a solution of 1600x1050
, my mistake in my first posting
-
I'm not sure about your motherboard or if that really has anything to do with it, I don't think it does, but I do know you have to have a 64 bit Operating system to be able to take advantage of anything over 3GBs of memory, which I forgot to mention before. -
Und trotzdem sind es 1680x1050.
8GB sind möglich. Siehe doch einfach in die Signatur der beiden Beiträge vor deinem!
"Dominick_7" und "CompTrekkie" haben doch 8GB RAM.
And yet it is 1680x1050.
8GB are possible. See just is not enough, the signature of the two posts before yours!
"Dominick_7" and "have CompTrekkie" but 8GB of RAM. -
sure i have a 64 bit os
7 x64 ultimate
thats not the problem
the problem is that in everest it says "4gb ram maximum"
i really would like to use 8gb -.-
do i have to upgrade by hp?
iam asking because of my guarantee oO
i still got 1 year left
and as far as i know the guarantee will be lost when i open the laptop -
By Everest you are referring to a benchmark system software? Don't worry about the warranty, if you ever need to send it in, just open the panel on the bottom back up where the memory goes, put back in the original memory and you're fine. It only takes like like 5 minutes to unscrew the panel on the bottom take out the other memory modules, and put the new ones in. No surgery. Be sure to turn off the HDX, unplug it, take out the battery (if you want hold down the power button for 30 seconds) take out the memory, put the other in so to avoid any electrical damage as 2.0 has stated. Plug it back in, put the battery back in, turn it on and you should have a memory change with no problems. -
ok,thx
i would say iam a very skilled user
so the technical part is very easy for me
the only problem is that i could loose my guarantee, thats the problem
ive heard that inside the laptop there is a special mechanism that shows hp that ive already opened the latop
and in so they tell me that my guarantee is lost -.-
it has to be a special sealing
like in other technical stuff like tvs oder radios
maybe i sound a little bit paranoid
but i dont want to loose the guarantee because of the crazy prices of parts for the 9480eg oO
like display = up to 500 euros
and so on
so i must be 100% sure that i dont loose the guarantee when i by myself install the new ram
-
You do not lose your warranty when replacing the RAM.
Provided with a repair you send it with the original RAM to HP.
In addition, HP will give you even need instructions. see:
When you see after taking the English-speaking guides, there is also the complete instructions to be found. Or simply see here:
:
Judging by your signature, you must shift the dragons have indeed been opened, "Intel WiFi 5300 AGN". Yes, he was shipped with the Intel WiFi 4965 AGN ".
Probably, but your signature is wrong!
EDIT: Here is the link for manuals HDX9480EG the 9300 motherboard.
However, there are no differences between 9480 and 9350th manuals. -
Hier wird Englisch gesprochen, verdammt nochmal!
