Thankyou for the quick replies. Also, on Newegg it kept talking about how there is no return policy. Does this apply to their website only? Could i return it to hp in 20 days or however short it is? For the processor. If it bothered me i could always get a 9300 or 9500 whenever Montevina comes out. They should be cheaper then. Thanks

You really feel like messing with the CPU? Dunno about that, maybe it's just me but I don't really like opening up laptops... Then again there are people like 2.0 who apparently like to take them completely apart right off the box for no apparent reason...
Matter of tastes I guess, maybe later on I will feel more confident... Anyway in theory you can do everithing but realistically I wouldn't like to buy two CPUs and go through all that just to gain a few frames in a silly game... -

cridgit001 said: ↑Hey, other than the obvious whats the main difference between the 1680x1050 and the 1920x1200. This Newegg is really appealing to me. Also whats going to be the performance difference between the t9300 and the t8100. ThanksClick to expand...
There will be little to no difference between the T8100 and the T9300 in gaming and only on certain ones. If you do feel the need for more, you at least have the T8100 to help finance the purchase of the T9300. There are many users who have the 8800GTS with a T5450 that would love to have that T8100. I’m trying to figure out what the heck does HP have to do to sell this thing? You’re getting something you don’t have to worry about painting (would love to have my D810 painted), you’re getting a nice CPU performance wise, all the multimedia your heart desires, and to top it off you get a Blu-Ray drive, 4GB of RAM and a 8800GTS for $1499! The Blu-Ray drive and 4GB memory alone is a $350 value added! I’m starting to feel bad for the ones who had to leave out the Blu-Ray drive, just to try and get the system under $2500 and that’s not even with the 8800GTS not too long ago.
As far as display….. I would definitely opt for the true 1080p on a 20.1 screen (that must look amazing), but at what cost? 1680x1050 gives the typical user the perfect median between performances and visuals graphics wise….which can be said for the whole notebook in general.
I’m so glad to have found out about this laptop, and it was my grandmother of all people who pointed it out to me (that’s sad).
Now compare the one at eBay with the one at Newegg?

they also sell the hdx9494nr on frys.com for the same price which is good for me because they deliver international.
Unfortunately they are all sold out at frys.com. I might buy one when it becomes available there. -
You think they may have them in the stores(Frys). I have only seen an hdx in person once and at the time i wasnt looking for it.

Also, i think this may be the wrong place but i figured i would ask anyways. My itunes library is important to me so is there anyway to transfer it from my xp laptop to the dragon which runs the 64-bit vista?

Well i went ahead and got it. Worst case i just have to burn and re import my songs.

Video drivers cause frequent and random crashes.
There were two others things no one could seem to get working but I forget offhand. The major player in getting XP on the HDX (who owns that link to the drivers) went back to Vista.
As for using the virtual machine, it's actually much easier than it looks. VMware has to make it look mightier than it is because of their corporate clientèle. However, I didn't give you the complete story since I'm using VMware Workstation and not the player. The workstation makes the virtual appliances, the player only plays them. A virtual appliance defines the specs of the virtual computer - such things as RAM, HDD size, networking, USB, Virtual BIOS, DOS, etc. And that's as easy as pie to setup. A bunch of dialog boxes. But again, you need VM workstation in order to do that. I use it because I have legacy business software that won't run on Vista x64.
The alternative is Parallels workstation. It's pretty good but not as good as VMWare. -

Well i hope to get it tomorrow in any case. Now i just need to go over how to do a clean vista install.
-
I tried a search for a clean vista install guide and i just found one for a lenovo. Is there one that is specifically for HP's because some of hp's programs like their security shield i like. Is there a guide to do a clean install while keeping stuff like that?

Next job: Clean install of Vista x64. I mean, really now, the amount of bloat is fantastic.Click to expand...
I might turn my on just to see if it works, but Im going to disassemble it right away. Theres no way I can use the computer, knowing theres a bunch of Goop hindering my performance. Besides Im going to remove the TV Tuner, since it will be useless for me here. Ive searched for the pictures Im sure you posted by now, but cant find them. Would you be so kind to point me in the right direction of where you posted them? -
To do a clean install you will need OEM or Retail version of Vista. As you may know, the HP recovery disks are not the OEM versions to do a clean install.
I bought OEM version of Vista x64 off newegg for $99. (Since I ain't got no friends with a retail version of Vista.)
Don't use the product code that it comes with. Instead use a program called activation backup and restore to retrieve the product and activation code off your computer. After all you paid for the license.
For a guide on how to do a clean install on an HP, this one is tops:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=120228
Can't emphasize this enough: SAVE THE SWSETUP folder.
As for keeping security shield, I'm not sure exactly what that is, but whatever it is, you should be able to find it or its equivalent in the SWSETUP folder. -

LOL, I didn't get around to posting them yet. TV tuner removal is cake though. It's a mini-PCI-e card with a mini coaxial connector. You'd want to insulate that connector end if and when you decide to take the card out.
If I were you, I'd run the system for a few days before taking it apart. Check things out. Get familiar with it. There's no quality control on the "goop." Both my HDX's had different amounts and spread quality. You may find no need to do anything at all.
Download HWmonitor and check your temps. Run 3dmark06, Wprime, PCmark05 to stress things and burn in.
Also, don't overlook Arctic Ceramique. Though I used Arctic Silver 5. I may go back in a few months from now and redo with ceramique on the CPU. I'll see. Ceramique seems to be working well on my TX2500. My extreme temps seem to be lower than many reported temps. -
Here are some pics of the goop job they did....

Nice!
I see you have the T9300, did you order yours with the unit or bought it afterwards? It’s so nice that the Tuner is very accessible; I just hope HP lets me exchange the DVB tuner for the Hybrid tuner. Speaking of which….Have you used the TV Tuner yet? I’m planning on recording College football games, and it would be nice if the built-in Tuner is more than enough for what I want to do. -
Has anyone found the PLL number for this thing yet? Mine comes on Monday.

Yeah, I ordered it with the T9300. TV Tuner works fine. I'm a bit too far away from the city (35miles) to pick up HD broadcasts without artifacts and freezes. But I've plugged the cable line into it and it works great. Only only picks up SD programming via cable since it doesn't have a QAM tuner. Though SD (standard -def) programming isn't as clear and sharp as on my Sony, it's perfectly viewable. I also used the S-video input to convert a VCR tape to digital.
As for the Hybrid tuner, you'll probably have to buy one from HP spare parts. I believe there are laws that govern what type goes in what unit per territory in order to garner regulatory approval of the entire unit. -

And the BIOS doesn't provide access to the vitals that one would need to overclock.
GPU is overclockable by using ntune. I've done a 50mhz and 100mhz overclock on Core and mem with a 1-2deg C average max temp increase over standard clocked 65-67C observed max. 3D mark 06 score jumped 500 and 1000 respectively. I'm currently running stock clocks though. One aspect of ntune blue screens the system. I believe it was the monitor app. So don't click it. Otherwise latest version works fine. -
So if what your saying is true 2.0, when i plug my cable into the back of my hdx, i will only be able to see a few channels and not all like 60 or so? Also, dont i need some kind of adapter that goes between the hdx and the cable itself?

Is it just me or do I have some setting wrong? Using 1920x1200 and many web pages seem out of alignment. Radio buttons, hyperlinks, and even my entered text does not register properly. Is this because of the non standard resolution for this size display or what? Many thanks people, really look forward to this posting everyday and, of course, I love my beast as the rest of you do....David

On office 2003... Yes, but install the office service packs.
If you install outlook, you may have an error come up. Concerns file mapisvc.inf. If that happens, go to directory windows\syswow64. Right click on this .inf file and select properties. You're going to have to change the permission on it. Click the advanced tab Then owner. Take ownership of it and give your username full control. That should solve the problem. -

Oh you mean using SETFSB? OK let me comb over my pics for finer detail. I might have taken a snapshot of the PLL. But knowing HP gear, might not be the best of ideas. I couldn't imagine going over 100 MHZ and deeming the system stable.
In any event, I'll report what I find. -
Nope, didn't take pictures close enough to make out the text on the various chips. But the configuration seen on one of my better pics suggest that the PLL might be underneath where the keyboard is, and to the left of what appears to be the southbrigde Intel chip. Only thing that seems to match an ICS configuration silhouette which I'm guessing is what HP would use since they have in the past. But the exact code I can't make out. Would need some "CSI" image interpolating software.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help. -
