I had the same thing, headphone jacks and no output from speakers.

Are you running a 2.6.32 kernel ? That is when the speakers started working for me.

I ended up talking to one guy at a department that was specific to HDX machines. He was pretty decent about investigation if he didn't know the answer to something. But, of course, tech support is a running joke for me as much as it is for anyone. :)

Hmmm. That has me worried now.

I've had perfect luck doing business with Chinese merchants when it comes to computer parts on eBay. Though, it can take quite a while to receive what you ordered. Figure 2 weeks average.

I've bought and sold processors on eBay. No issues to date.

Besides, eBay is very buyer-centric. Lots of safeguards should things go wrong.

I'm on 2.6.31. Going to look for 2.6.32 since you and Elmerfud confirm sound works. Thanks fellas.

    EDIT: Yep, 2.6.32 works nicely.

If anyone is interested, there is a new nVidia driver out that works really well. Developer driver 197.15. I modded the .inf (attached) for our 8800's and it installs fine.
    - Download driver, click install...it will unpack driver then say device not found.
    - Click cancel, go to nVidia driver folder and insert the modded .inf.
    - Then use setup within the driver folder.
    * Make sure you go through the normal uninstall, safe-mode reboot/driver cleaner process first.

Enjoy. 8259 stock 3dMark06, improved frame rates and stable temps in games.

    Download and info link:
    http://developer.nvidia.com/object/opengl_driver.html#dl

*edit For some reason I'm not able to attach a file right now. Add these 3 lines above "060D" in the appropriate sections in the .inf:

    SetA_Devices...6.0
    %NVIDIA_DEV.0609.01% = Section004, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0609

    SetA_Devices...6.1
    %NVIDIA_DEV.0609.01% = Section003, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0609

    GPU model (last section)
    NVIDIA_DEV.0609.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTS "

Here's something interesting; on my DV5T, it adds another feature called 3 finger press. Doing that can launch any app(s) you specify. Pretty cool. Set mine to launch OneNote.

It won't enable on the HDX though. :(

You get those kinds of techs once in a while, which is nice, but it's not the norm I don't think.

What's weird is EVERYTHING reports as working properly, thank God, for when I want to get a warranty within the next few weeks, but I think something is out of wack. If I reformat and system restore again works as wacked as before, then that says something to me besides what has occurred with the post Slingbox/Quickdock scenario.

Going to try to send back the HDMI to Component converter I bought since with the HDCP it doesn't really support mirroring, which is what I wanted for connecting to the Slingbox.. It does it but only at the lowest resolution.. I have other VGA to composite converters that will do it at higher resolutions so this is pointless. After learning that I can't think of what use it has except for maybe connecting HDMI devices to a TV possibly..? Hope this other Dock you mentioned will work. The HDX can be supported by the XB3000s shelf or they both can't support it?

Been doing well, bud, how about you? I'm always lurking, just not posting a lot. All the wrinkles pretty much worked out with the Dragons in the community, no more troublemakers to harass :).

Anyway, Pieter at LV2G made a new modded inf for this driver, and it actually works better, so I thought I would pass that word on to those that might want to try the driver. It's located at the top of the driver download page here: http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/26353-v19715-windows-7vista-64bit-nvidia-desktop/

Hey! Thanks a ton for this. I haven't updated my video drivers in a while. Haven't run the numbers, but just from a "visual check" with max resolution (1920x1200), all graphics features maxed (except anti-aliasing -- I always keep that at 2x or NONE) -- Mass Effect 2, Borderlands, Dragon Age, and even my own Everquest/Dark Age of Camelot/World of Warcraft private servers (all run off of the Dragon) look and feel a **LOT** smoother than my old 177.92 drivers.

Mass Effect 2 actually loads a bit faster -- not much, but certainly noticeable.

    Thank you for this!!

But can anyone use XP Mode WITHOUT having to enable Virtualization in the BIOS? While I don't currently have it enabled, I did it once briefly without using it, and put it back to disable.. I've never tried XP Mode, so don't know if that would count.

Yeah, I saw this on the tabletPC forum last week. Haven't tried it out yet. Haven't seen any reviews. But then again, haven't searched for any either.

As for multi touch display screen... yes. But then you get finger smudges all over the screen.

One thing I found out is that you might need to set it twice. Meaning set it, boot up, shut down, set it again, then boot up.

You can test that it is enabled or disabled using Microsoft's Hardware VT detection tool: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...7f-8538-4619-8d1c-05d27e11adb2&displaylang=en

We used to think one had to be on BIOS f40 to enable it. But it works with f35 and up.

    it's from Synaptics too.

As for MT and finger smudges, well, you don't really notice them (or bother) when you are using a Touchsmart Desptop. The screens also have a special anti-smudge coating.

Hey guys. So one thing I've been dealing with for a while, (and when I say dealt with, I mean have been extremely annoyed with, but just put up with it and tried to ignore it) is this:

Most of the time when I unplug my Dragon from the AC so I'm just on battery, like when I'm moving from the bedroom to the living room or something, and then replug back in, I notice that my FPS goes to . It's like my video card/CPU just stopped working, or at least went into super economy mode. Like, if I were to click and drag one of those blue boxes on the windows desktop, it is a very unpleasant, super choppy experience. Unlike when I'm plugged in, the click-and-drag box is super smooth and lag-free. The problem is, even when I plug the AC back in, 99% of the time I still have the super slow choppiness of my Dragon. The only remedy that I have found, is to reset the computer. This is getting really annoying, since even an accidental shifting of my Dragon which accidently unplugs the Dragon for like 3 seconds, is often enough to start this super-slow-terrible-video-performance mode.

I frequent this forum a LOT, and I have read about something called Powermizer, but if I understand correctly, this is a Nvidia product, which doesn't affect me because I have the ATI Dragon, right? Is there an "ATI-equivalent" of the powermizer switch mentioned in this thread? Or some other equally simple solution, so I don't have to worry about terrible performance when on battery/being-on-battery-for-10-seconds-then-replugging-in-and-still-having-bad-performance?

Quick side note, sometimes, when I unplug and am on battery power, and stay on battery power, I do not see any NOTICEABLE performance decreases at all. While this is not very common, it's as if plugging back in after being on battery for a while triggers the super slow performance mode.

Can anyone explain all of this to me and help a Dragon brotha out?

I have had the same problem. I find unplugging and taking out the battery, holding down the power button for 30 seconds helps some to discharge it when that happens, so it happens less when unplugged and replugged back in. Other than that I use velcro on the back edge and on the power chord to make sure it doesn't come out accidentally or take a lot more to take the chord out. I know of no way to resolve that though, but it doesn't seem like everyone has that problem. I have an NVIDIA.

I enabled it after realizing that you have to press F10 to save the change in the sub menu rather than ESC like I'm used to.

I'm running f40. Is there a newer version of the BIOS available -- and any compelling reason to upgrade?

No other BIOS versions available. F40e is the last.

IF HP actually comes through and creates a BIOS which allows Extreme CPU overclocking, then that will be the must have BIOS. ;)
