Hey all, just wanted to let you all know that the Dicota MultiGiant Notebook Case works perfectly for the HDX, and it has a ton of spaces for storage. I had been looking around at bags and all of them seemed a bit over the top or just too expensive to risk it not fitting the laptop well. The MultiGiant is $39.18 and far exceeded my expectations. The padding is ample and it has other sections designed for documents, and a sizable front pouch which I use for CDs in cases. Here's a link for you all:

    http://www.pcconnection.com/IPA/Shop/Product/Detail.htm?sku=8281636

On a side note, does anyone know if there's a way to edit the HP Recovery Partition to get rid of all that Bloatware. If I could do that and just get Vista and the basics, the partition would probably fit onto a DVD, I'm estimating it'll be around 4.5gb after all the stuff I don't need/want is removed.

Ordered late one monday night, it came about 11:50AM Friday. It cost like $48 total if I remember right. I was really pleased.

Also on a side note, how do I get drivers for Vista on the HDX to work on XP? Any links for driver packs, or ways to move drivers between the two?

Hows the shoulder pain. I dont think i could take that much weight on one shoulder. I would like to get the alienware back pack but its a bit pricey. Does anyone know of a cheaper backpack in the 50 dollar range. Also, i have an old HD tv. I guess it was one of the first being its age(got it 6 years ago). Anyway, i can convert the hdmi signal down to the component signal but what do i do about the audio? Do i just use a y connector and plug it into the headphone jack. I know i could just use the surround sound ports in the back of the hdx but my sony surround sound is just as old as my tv. Sorry that its so long.

I have and HDX and it's incredible. I have only had few problems with it so far. I use my HDX a lot, actually everyday. That means it spents a lot of time powered on, days at a time. I figured this wouldn't be a problem as this computer is designed for entertainment and as a desktop replacement. The problem is that, after it has spent a lot of time powered on, videos start to skip a lot, to the point of being unwatchable. This happens with dvds, online videos (like youtube ones) and regular video files. The problem is resolved by restarting the computer. It really isn't that big of a problem, but I would like to ask if someone knows why this happens or is it just because of the time the computer spends powered on.

The shoulder pain isnt bad at all. Its fairly comfortably worn as a messenger bag. I have the stap on my left shoulder and bag on right hip. No discomfort really, and I'm fairly thin. The only discomfort I've had with it is now that I'm sunburnt...

Just spent the last hour plus trawling through the entirety of this topic, and it's been most rewarding ^_^

I'm due to recieve my very own HDX this tuesday coming, and it's well anticipated! I managed to grab a UK 9310EA for a stunning £1100 using a discount code and my retailer discount from my work, i'm bitterly disappointed at missing out on the 9320EA with the T9300 and 2x250GB drive configuration... They were selling that for a trivial £50 more than the T8100 and 2x 160GBs that I'm recieving. Ah well! The 8800GTS makes up for that with ease.

One thing that I do need to ask, however, is this spec. difference between the two - On the HP UK website the 9310 is documented as having a higher resolution, the coveted 1920 x 1200 to be precise, whereas the more expensive model reverts to the 1280 x 800.

I cannot confirm this elsewhere, perhaps because I'm not looking in the right places. I hope the 9310 I bought 'does' in fact have the higher resolution, as that fact swayed me to buy regardless of the performance drop, and the awesome price of course. Can anyone confirm this either way?

Does it matter that at the top it says (For Vista 32bit Only), and I'm running 64bit? So confusing...lol, but thanks for all the help with my endless questions.

That's because that is the inf for the 32bit drivers, so no you don't want that. Always just look for new drivers in the forum instead of downloading somewhere else and trying to find an inf. This way you know it's matched correctly.

    Here 177.73: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=19801

    Should work fine.

I've recently noticed that my hdx didn't come with a RF coaxial cable adapter like I belive it should have. Did they stop shipping this item with the hdx or was my purchase incomplete? Either way I would like to order one but can't seem to find where to get one. Anyone know where?

Hi Andrew - I think you may be out of luck; I've seen the HP website that suggests you can get a full HD screen but when I rang HP I was told the max resolution in the UK was the 1650. I've asked on here whether you can get a full HD screen in the UK but no-one replied so I guess we can't! I gather that these machines can be customized in the US but not in the UK. However the word seems to be that for games and normal activity the res is fine - if you want to watch a lot of films, buy a blue ray DVD and an HD telly!

Hope this helps and welcome to the forum from one Nube to another!

Here's a new backpack that I found that fits My HDX!
I bought it for about 60 bucks at eBags.

    Its called an:

    eBags Weekender Convertible about $60

It also comes in a roller/ backpack version ( eBags Weekender Wheelie about $100)

The bag was not intended to be used for laptops, but its design and size makes it perfect for the HDX. The front opens up suitcase style allowing you to place your HDX into it rather than sliding it out through the top. There are two straps inside that are intended for people to strap clothing down but here you can use them to further secure the HDX. I would recommend that people get a nice sleeve for the HDX if you chose this bag because it has no padding and the laptop its self takes up the whole bag. Right now I don't have a sleeve yet because I'm having it custom made, but one mystery is what it will do to effect the fit of my laptop in my bag.

The only downside of putting the HDX on your back is the 25 lbs that comes with the name... with all the lumbar straps on the bag it makes carrying the HDX a little bit more comfortable.

If guys want I can take some pics and post them later.

Hey, I thought the same thing when I received my HDX. I didn't worry about it, but found it two weeks later in the bottom of the bag with the "IR Extender" thing.

    Check that bag.

Last night I discovered 2 dead pixels on my HDX located toward the bottom-center area of the screen. I believe I am still within the 21-day return period. Is that period 21 days after I received the laptop or after I ordered it?

Should I go through the return process over the 2 dead pixels? I personally feel like they will bother me from time to time but maybe not too much. I know I will lose my original S&H cost of about 75 dollars if I return it. Also I will be unable to get a new unit at the same price because special deals have expired.

There were some things about my original purchase that I wish I had made such as switching to the Nvidia graphics and the 1080p screen resolution. Returning it would give me the opportunity to make those changes.

Of course all of this is contingent on me being within the 21 day return period. I received the laptop on the 10th of July so I know time is running out.

Any advice please and for those who have returned to HP how much of a hassle was the process?

    Thanks!

Actually, if you are within the 21 day period, and they replace it you WILL get the same price for the same specs. I had to return mine because it wouldent boot (opppsss...qa missed thet eh ?), and they tried to charge me 500$ more that I paid because the cupons and specials had expired....I took that up the chain to a supervisor....

Got that chage removed and since they took the $500 more out of my CC without my permission, and I mentioned that doing that was illegal, mentioned the BBB and a few other things, I got a 200$ gift cert for my trouble also.

Point being, they better not charge you any more, you paid for a product, its defective, they have to replace it at their cost.

Also of note, they will either 1) send you a pre-paid shipping box to ship it to them, or 2) a pre-apid FedEx label to use, shipping shouldent cost you a dime.

Thanks Huggy, we really do get the short-end of the stick in the UK! Lack of customization is a real pain. Strange how they've managed to make that typo however, and most frustrating for me considering I was pulled into buying it partially due to the resolution. Ah well! Not the end of the world.

Quick question. I am still within the 21 day return period for my HDX, and would like to return it and request a replacement unit. There is 1 dead pixel, I have not been able to burn the recovery discs for it, the hinge makes an odd spring clicking sound when you open the lid, and it also emmits a loud autible screatching sound sometimes for a while after you open it. As I said earlier, I don't just want to return the unit, but I would like to get a replacement one. Does anyone know if anyone of the problems I mentioned above constitue a replacement unit? Time is of the essence, so a quick reply would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Not sure about HP's support but I've read quite a few posts here about HDX's with dead or stuck pixels which makes me wonder who manufactures the LCD's for HP. I've purchased four Samsung LCD's (17-22") over the last few years and every single one has been flawless. So I am guessing HP probably doesn't use Samsung or buys their seconds.

The thought of a faulty display is creating a lot of anxiety as I wait for my HDX to arrive via FedEx tomorrow; and while I can tolerate a dead pixel or two off center of the screen, any stuck pixels will drive me nuts and the machine will go back for sure.

    Fingers crossed.

If I recall correctly, the plastic interface adapter and the metal housing can be separated, but it does beg the question that if the adapter is removed what are the ramifications of the excess metal mounts (where the IDE interface was supposed to be screwed in) and how the case position the hard drive in relation to the mount holes (IE will it line up and place the hard drive in the right location) or will the bracket need to be slightly altered in order to work.

On a side note, UPS lost my order, Newegg said they would ship another out Monday, today is Wednesday and the laptop still hasn't left the facility. Though the customer service support was kind and easy to deal with, I'm losing a lot of faith in Newegg and their ability to follow their own deadlines. I'm having a feeling that I'll receive the backpack before I get the laptop which is sad because the backpack is coming USPS. I'd really like to "join the club" with you guys, hate it when companies are pains like this.

So, I called HP yesterday and they said that they would replace the laptop. However, I am confused as to exactly what they want me to return. They sent me a FedEx label via email, but I'm not sure whether they want just the HDX (without the remote, antena, or other acessories), or if they want me to repackage everything that came with it in the original box. At the moment, I am inclined to just send in the laptop without the anything else, i.e. battery, charger, remote, etc. Could someone please advise me as to how I should proceed. Thank you.

I'm just going to make a custom bracket. It's pretty easy if you already have one and access to some sheet metal.

You should call them and ask. If they find something missing, they may charge you for the value of the missing components until you return them. And you may have to return the missing items on your dime since you didn't return everything in the pre-paid return.

    ---

It's the kind of "purpose" that worries me!

believe me I am as tempted as anyone else to just keep making my HDX better and better... But as it is now it really works fine...

could anyone come out with a better purpose for fixing things (Audio, Video, BIOS) that already work very well? I mean... support for this or that... (SP1... I am not sure is a good enough reason...) -

    Hey 2.0
What do you mean the audio driver "works great" ? What does it change? It already did!! I will probably try all that one of these days but... just guys be careful fixing stuff that already works...

I installed that audio driver and it killed my sound. I clicked on the speaker on the desktop tool bar and it says that there is no audio device installed. I thought it was supposed to fix things, not break em.

Driver doesn't add anything, but fixed a sound stutter issue I was having with an older RTS game (C&C zero hour). Also adds a few graphic icon updates.

New video driver works better than the 175.80 I was using. And that driver (175.80) was better than the stock driver.

As for the BIOS, I have no reason yet to update to it. Plus I think it sets GPU fan to always run and may remove the option to override.

Next Video driver update will be when PhysX bugs are ironed out.

Reboot and see if that fixes things. If not reinstall and reboot.

i did have to modify the bracket a tiny bit. Removed the two screws holding the ide plastic piece on. cut the screw holder off with normal scissors. after this minor mod it is EXactly the same as the original for the hdx. IT WILL WORK. i promise. saved me a butt load.
