Hi a new HDX owner here, tbh quite impressed i am in the UK so didn't get to build me own, Its got the T9300, 4gig ram, 2X250gig 5400 RPM HDs, 8800GTS, sadly the downgraded 20.1" screen.
Gets 7877 3Dmarks 06 out the box plays bioshock, DOW etc on full settings so quite happy, bought it as a portable gaming rig and it fulfills these needs quite well, also wanted a huge screen as used to a 17" plus.
Any suggestions for optimization really, noticed it jumps now and again during sound playback, games, cds etc and hangs for a milisecond and continues normally..

Here is the link to the actual INF...it's at the very bottom of first post. Sorry so long for reply.

Makes me sad getting on here everyday because I want one really bad but I have forced my self to wait till June because of Montevina and the possible 3870. I hope to join you all soon. Im on my nc8430. It gets the job done but it does not have all that extra power that the HDX will have. Until then, i hope the people that have been through hell and back with hp get their machine running smoothly or at least get their money back. That crap is nuts.

Actually I am on my fourth HDX. First one had some hardware issues that could not resolved and was told by HP to return it. The next two had dead pixels. I am now my fourth one. The last three all ran good, but I spent too much money to have dead pixel. I have ordered a dv9000t cto and zd8000 cto that were built and shipped from the same place. I received all 6 computers in good time. Good luck with Niners next season. Shipping should be fairly quick because you live in a major city. -
As of yesterday, they dropped the Blu-Ray option price here in the US by $100. Now it's only $250. I have a long and involved story about my lappy that I will post as soon as it's resolved.....
-
Found it, installed it, did what the post said and so far very stable.

Anyone find their webcam a bit blurry?
Is there a way to focus it better? -
Not sure if this is somewhere else in the forum but I hooked my HDX into my TV today via HDMI. I got the video (even though the sides were cut off) but couldn't get any audio. When I check my audio playback device list I have Speakers, 2 Headphones and SPDIF but no HDMI. Anyone know why this might be?

Shipped out of Shanhai April 8 to Anchorage to Indianapolis and to SF Bay Area today! This is a fabulous looking "laptop", absolutely stunning looking! I have limited time over the next few days but I will be testing everything I can think of (especially the quick play buttons) and make my recovery discs. Windows experience says 5.1 (lowest score being the RAM) but I think things will be different after a Clean install.
Anybody have insight into what should be tested and how to test? I just want to nail it down before the 21 day return policy expires. Check it next to the Averatec 12" I have been using for email and internet.Attached Files:

Hello world. Just got delivery of my HDX9200 CTO on 04/02 complete with 4GB RAM, 2 120gb hard drives and all the whitsles and bells. But my excitement has been shortlived following the BIOS upgrade that I was instructed to carry out by the HP Techie Support on 04/05. since then my notebook is DEAD...it cant boot any more.
Urgently need some help on how i can recover my notebook. I am not willing to send it back to HP and want to consider that as a last resort.
The BIOS upgrade was required as the Notebook was not showing all of the BIOS' info in BIOS Setup....
please assist.
appreciated..

You may have to use the 21 day policy and ship it back. I know that isn't what you want but a bios fubar can be pretty serious, especially since you can no longer boot up. You may not have any choice. -
hovercraftdriver , I have a question for you. I see you tweek your HDX, what prosessor do you have ? And can someone please dump the grapichs bios of the hdx ? use for example gpuz. Thanks in advance!

Hello!
I have a HDX9250EA but I cannot get my Microphone working =(
Won't detect any sound? Using Vista, tried selecting different hardware in the Recording Sound settings.
What else can I try?
Anyone else with the same issue?
Thanks -
Is there any way to focus the webcam or make any adjustments other than the physical tilt?

I was thinking about getting an HDX, but I'm afraid I wont because I hear it's not really something you want to move around a lot. I was curious if you owners could tell me if this beast is really that heavy/big and would you take it somewhere like a coffee shop.

If you're talking about the microphones on the sides of the webcam, you have to go into control panel, sound, then tap the recording tab. Check Microphone Array.
The default one is for plugged in mikes i believe.
Tested my mikes last night in fact using the array. Works great. I was making ring tones of my co-workers irritating laugh.
Hehe. -
Yeah its hard to lug around. Thats why I leave mine at work. It IS doable but taking it in and out of the bag case is a ***** after a while.
And hell no on bringing it on an airplane.
For the plane, I'll bring the Asus EEE PC laptop which I'm gonna buy soon. Tiny little thing. -
-
asuhoru,
Does your cam look like it's focused or not?
Mine looks just OK when it's in a small window and not very sharp.
Would this be due to the lower VGA cam type that they are using or do you think I have a defect? -
I don't think its a high end webcam. Best image description I can give you on how mine looks is its equivalent to DVD quality like when you pop in a reg dvd into your laptop vs say a bluray.
I don't think yours is broken. I think it is what it is.

Hello,
Problems with my new hdx9350eb, starting up goes very very slow, i did also a recovery, but its the same probem.
Sorry for my english(belgium).
What can i do, .....sending back to hp,.....?
grts -
after i did a clean install of vista, my quick play and dvd eject buttons doesnt work anymore. I made sure i reinstalled the driver/software back onto the computer. Anyone have any idea as to what happend to my buttons?
thanks -
If you did a clean install, go to hp's support driver page and dl the latest driver (not the security patch). It should work ok after that. If it doesn't, if you search here for Quickplay not working should show you some threads on how some guys got their buttons to work too which involve taking the battery out and some other stuff. -
And what is very very slow? 5 mins? 10 mins? My HDX boots up to windows in less than a couple of minutes. Maybe even faster. Just never timed it but I know its not 5 mins. -
Hi,
thx but it's ok now, in the bios 1 boot was dvd,..... and there was a cd disk inside,.....when the notebook starts up, he was searching for the boot -
Hello! Does the bios allow you to overclock the cpu , when you have the x9000 prosessor installed ?
-
Hello,
HP gives this disclaimer
This notebook pc does not support the Intel Core 2 Extreme processor over-clocking feature. See http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number for details. -
Hello,
When iinstall de driver from laptopvideo2go driver i don't need to install the inf, when i install the inf, the driver don't work, without it work.
Can somebody explain why please?
thx -
Hi All,
I have just purchased a HDX with 20" WUXGA screen HD DVD 4gb RAM and core duo x7900 extreme.
I am running VISTA Ultimate 64bit.
When i go into computer management the chip show up as a t7800, is this normal or have i been taken for a ride. Is there a sure way to find out what CPU is installed?
Thanks. -
Geez man, they need to put this disclaimer right on the CPU selection page. Not on the "help me decide" pop up. This makes the CPU all the more a waste of money. You're paying a premium for the ability to overclock.
The CPU pricing is just silly. Going from a 2.5 to 2.6 costs +$300 and you only get a 1-4% improvement is computing power. Go from 2.5 to 2.8, it'll cost you +$650 and you only get a 5-12% improvement. -
Go to page 36 and look for the post that im lookin for the inf for our hdx's. It should link you to an HP specific on you can use for 174.74 drivers.
Works great so far. Zero problems. -
thx asuhoru.

guys has anyone tried overclocking on the 8800m GTS HDX??? i tried but riva tuner does not detect the clocks correctly and when i used nTune to overclock i did not get a performance increase at all which leads me to doubt that overclocking did not work??? is the HDX graphics card overclockable or not??
sorry if this sounds stupid/mundane -
ashoru can u plz guide me......in the laptopvideo2go INF file what shuld i set my graphics memory as? 512 MB which is dedicated or the 1774MB which dxdiag shows as approximate total memory?
*QUOTE*
HKR,, D3D_92521178, %REG_DWORD%, 0 ; Enable PCI Texture Memory Limit Size of XX MB*
If your card supports 128mb of RAM set the maximum size to 128mb. Do not attempt to set the maximum size to
256mb. You will run out of RAM if the system uses the extra RAM and it will cause instabilities with the system. Set this
tweak to match exactly the amount of memory you have allocated or have included with the graphics chip. -
512, buddy
And no, never tried overclocking it. And I dont think I ever will even phuck with that on my HDX. If I spent less than 2k on this HDX, maybe I'd try it, otherwise NO way Jose. -
thanks asuhoru
-
umar,
Read my other posts about the OC'ing. I have had no problems with my OC. That being said, the 8800 GTS is a very nice card, extreme upper end and will run most games on highest settings and the rest you just have to find what works best for you. You'll be fine without OC'ing, that's for sure.
nTune is what i used and had no issues with it. Think my current settings are 650/900, but it's been a while...that's why I said check my last post where I mentioned settings. Haven't changed them since then.
Also, there is a vista tweak guide in the forums somewhere and there are other little things you can do to help maximize performance without OC'ing.
Good luck. -
Hi All-
I've been a somewhat pleased HDX owner for about 7 months. This is my config:
Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz
2x120GB drives
ATI HD x2600
4GB (came with 2GB) RAM
Vista Ultimate 64-bit
HD-DVD/DVDRW Drive
I am having a really awful issue with it that started sometime in January. I'm new to this forum, just registered today, and of course this lounge but if you can search by my username you can read my issue and if you can offer any advice that would be great.
Hi All-
I just wanted to post an update to this. I removed the 4GB of memory I did as an upgrade. I started having problems about a week after I did the upgrade. After going back to the 2GB is came with, things seem to be running fine so far. -
Following are highlights of a conversation I had with a contact of mine at Intel Customer Support.
4/22/08 12:13 PM
http://www.intel.com/support/9089.htm#northamerica
The relationship of all Extreme Processors is that they can be over-clocked. The motherboard on the HDX is most probably not capable of supporting this feature.
Intel Processor Finder:
http://processorfinder.intel.com/
X9000 is listed with 2 different sSpec numbers:
SL Code: SLAZ3
http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLAZ3
SL Code: SLAQJ
http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLAQJ
X9000 Extreme Mobile Processor Intel OEM order code FF80576ZG0726M
http://processorfinder.intel.com/List.aspx?ProcFam=2967&sSpec=&OrdCode=
The X9000 OEM and box unit are exactly the same except for warrantee purposes. The X9000 box unit has not yet been and may never be released. Technically, Intel will support box units only. NOTE: If caller gives Intel technical support the SL number of the processor, Intel will continue supporting the call until it finds out (during the call) that it is an OEM processor. At that time it will refer the caller to the system manufacturer in our case that would be HP.
ATTENTION: According to my Intel source, any Intel Processor can be over-clocked if one knows how to do it. Intel does not recommend over-clocking. Intel does not support any over-clocking be it box or OEM version because it voids Intel and system manufacturer warrantees. Over-clocking will shorten the life of the processor, may cause damage to the motherboard and/or the system. Furthermore, Intel will categorically not assist any callers with questions regarding over-clocking any of its processors. Those who are attempting to over-clock do so at their own risk. So, given all the potential negatives associated with over-clocking, one must think hard about the questionable rewards, if any, before attempting over-clocking any processor. The risks of over-clocking far outweigh the rewards.
Hopefully this helps. -
hpshopping must send you good recovery disks that do work. And, I would act fast and demand it of hpshopping. I would also demand that they escalate your case to Canada or the US and you will be given a different case ID number that begins with the letter Q. Do it fast so that you are within your 21-day return policy.
My advice to you:
IF YOU ARE NOT FULLY SATISFIED WITH THE SOLUTION THAT HPSHOPPING IS OFFERING YOU, OR IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE TIME FOR IT RETURN YOUR HDX AT ONCE AND ORDER ANOTHER.
Good luck! -
RE: Montevina Platform
This is in answer to the private messages that I received.
From today's conversation with my intel contact person, I learned that support management personnel is scheduled for an (unknown) release session this coming week.
Furthermore, he stated, since Montevina involves the chipset, AGN network, and Penryn infrastructure, among others which are already in place, it is now only a matter of releasing it as a platform.
My call has been escalated to a mobile manager who will call or email me with more info on the release date of the Montevina Platform. I will post it then. -
http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/popups/moreInfo.jsp?category=PROCESSOR&catUid=m_c_1
It states:
This notebook pc does not support the Intel Core 2 Extreme processor over-clocking feature. See http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number for details.
Even though HP directs us to an Intel link, nowhere does Intel indicate that any of its Extreme processors may not support over-clocking. In the HDX, it is strictly an HP limitation once again, which has nothing to do with Intel. One only has to wonder why hpshopping lists a link to Intel as if to suggest that it is a limitation with the processor, which is not the case. -
RE: Blu Ray writer on the HDX:
Hpshopping 4/ 22/2008 12: 55 PM transcript with Blake OPID 2020
Hpshopping gets literally hundreds of calls a day from persons wanting to buy who are inquiring on when HP intends to release the Blu Ray Writer on the HDX. It is the reason those callers (in the hundreds) are not buying. Blake further stated that based on his inside information it is going to be very soon within 2 weeks though he could not give me an exact date. He asked that we keep checking daily.
Caveat:
Approximately 1½ month ago I had a conversation with yet a knowledgeable person at hpshopping who had indicated that we could expect a Blu Ray Writer release on the HDX within 2 weeks. Obviously, it did not take place yet. The only difference now is that hpshopping has been getting and continues to get daily many inquiries for the Blu Ray Writer on the HDX - the more the merrier for all of us waiting! So, for the many of us who have been waiting for the release of the Blu Ray Writer on the HDX, let us hope it does happen very soon. For those of us who have been waiting and have not yet called hpshopping to ask when they will release the Blu Ray Writer for the HDX, I encourage you all to call. Tell them the following:
"Ask them to write a suggestion card and submit it to their boss indicating: "If the HDX had a Blu Ray Writer you would have placed the order for one." -

It is relatively uncomplicated to change processors if one is careful. However, you need to be super clean and know how to do it right using the proper sealer. 2.0 addressed the task you inquire about. Search for it in this thread.
And finally yes, and unless it is done at an HP approved service center where they state otherwise in writing, if you change the processor, technically you will void your warranty. Typically, manufacturers welcome the opportunity to get out of a warrantee. So, remember that the manufacturer may void a warrantee anytime it knows or has reason to believe that someone (other than the manufacturer or its approved service station) tampered with the unit. So, if you are concerned about it, do not give them a reason to.
Alternatively, if you have had your HDX for less than 21 days, you might consider sending it back and place an order for a replacement with an X9000 Processor. -
2.0 - If only the sources of my info knew better and were as good as the researcher ;-) thx anwy!
I see that you have chosen another nice b&w.
How have you been?
