Has anyone here used Quickplay's Karaoke function?

My brother is wanting to have a karaoke party at Xmas so I thought we could just use my dragin. I've got a load of mp3+cdg karaoke files which play just fine in Quckplay. Feed the output through my guitar amp. Wonderful I thought.... until I tried plugging a mic in.

The latency on the mic is terrible and you simply can't sing along because your voice is coming out of the speakers after you have sing and you simply can't keep in time.

I've looked at the settings for the mic input but there doesn't seem to be anything obvious I can tweak.

Anyone had the same problem? Solved it?

Or are we going to have to buy a karaoke machine?

Are you using Vista? Also what audio card?

Try downloading the latest quickplay and check the settings for any mic delay/confidence recording.

Yes, I have Vista Home Premuim which the unit came installed with. It has the SigmaTel Sound card which, as you may know, has mic input monitoring disabled. I've found the entry for EnableInputMonitor in the registry and changed it from 00 to 01 but it hasn't made any difference. I was hoping that if I got mic input monitoring enabled I could use another, and better, karaoke player. Quickplay must reenable mic monoitoring somehow

I'll try the upgrade to Quickplay, the version I have is 3.6.5001 which came with the unit. I'll let you know how I get on and thanks for your reply.

Upgraded Quickplay but it has no setup functions for adjusting anything. Just seems to be a slightly prettier version than 3.6.

I understand why they want not to have mic input monitoring, with built in mic bit for goodness sake, we are not children. Why hack it out of existence? All it had to have was default enablement so we could turn it on if we wanted.

Has anyone managed to re-enable input monitor on their HDX Dragaon with the Sigmatel soundcard?

Have you tried disabling the audio enhancements in the Mic? Theres a setting for Audio enhancement somewhere.

Yes, switched off all of them but no joy at all. The only way to get mic output through the speakers is using Quickplay which has such a delay on the mic output that it's unusable.

I think it's time HP were involved so I'm off to mail them. I love a good row with support. haven't had one since the built in webcam driver fiasco.

It so comical. HP barrs us from using the monitor input, and they provide us with a Karaoke-machine that does not even work. Tell me MIK that you have solved it? Did you call them? If you have, I would be so happy if you could send me a mail or write here how you fixed it? Because I am going nuts over this!

    Cheers

It took me a while, but I fixed the Input Monitor on my HP Pavilion dv7 with IDT soundboard. So now Quickplay Karaoke works great. The latency actually works like a good delay effect if you use the regular one on top of it, or you can turn that horrible latency fest down to zero and use it with the real Input Monitor. You should be able to fix it, I saw a lot of forums dealing with the Sigmatel cards. I can give you a link to where I posted my solution, perhaps it will work for you too, because IDT=Sigmatel nowadays.

Ironically, when I got Input Monitor working, it was obvious to me they intended us to use the real Input Monitor all along, and then they had it disabled from day one. They must have some kind of developers computer without the insanely stupid Input Monitor Block on it, and they created the program without even thinking: "Wait a minute, we are creating a program for the masses when we have disabled the means for them to even use it!" It is shooting themselves in the feet for sure. Why do they not think?
