So I got my HDX today and I love it!! The only thing is there is a little bit of light leakage on the bottom of the screen that i notice when the screen is black or when i 'm watching a movie becuase of the black bars. Is this normal?
Thanks,
Phil

Light leakage is unavoidable. It all depends on how much.
-
Here are some pics....I took them with my phone so not the best quality
-
That looks very minor.
-
Looks like a poor quality LCD. Those back lights shouldn't be choppy like that... it should be even all the way across.
-
If it was working properly the back light would be consistent like this;
-
hmmm... it is normal for cheaper/smaller notebook... but on such big and high-end notebook you would not expect it to be as such. dont worry though... almost all LCD has such problem... only the lucky few get better than normal.. and unlucky few that gets worse...
i would generally classified that as normal, it is a bit worse than it should be... but just a bit. though if you replace it; you could get worse or better or the same..
try to find one in store and see if their's is better/worse/same.
i presume that the effect is a bit exaggerated, since you took it with your phone? -
yeah, LCDs are as randomly bad as hard drives... I've replaced and LCD in a unit and had it come back a week later for tab separation. Its all chance unfortunately...
-
So should I return it??
-
BTW, what is your brightness setting? -
I'm not even sure how to adjust the brightness settings. It's whatever it came with. I haven't changed anything
-
I think it's FN + 8 and FN +9 to adjust brightness. The symbology on the upper left of those keys should look like a starburst with an up and down arrow next to them.
-
I'll check that out. Also, when playing movies, the screen seems a little fuzzy, but it's only noticeable when you are sitting really close. Am I just sitting too close to the screen?
-
Tricky question to answer. Could be a number of factors like frames per second in the game, screen resolution, anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering. Is this for all games? What games are you referring to.
How about in windows desktop? Any graininess? Also try a DVD movie that has some action in it. Then return to the desktop to see if you notice crispness or blur. -
I haven't even tried games. It's just movies. DVD quality just doesn't look that great and is fuzzy. Blu-ray is the same way, except seems fuzzier.
-
Yeah, sorry about that. I had games on the brain today. Saw the word "playing" and subliminally thought you said "games."
In any event, fuzzy doesn't sound right for a screen of that resolution.
One other thing you might try is to go to apple's website and download quicktime and run a movie trailer like "Dark Knight." If that's fuzzy to you, then your screen is the culprit. I'm saying suggesting that as a test assuming that you were playing the DVD's through HP's Quickplay.
What are the specs of the system? -
It would be safe to exhange it or return it... in case this is a developing issue..
