ouch so I have to go buy a 25 digit code for some 300 bucks or something to get this to work?

I see that in order to fix 1. need remove battery and cycle the power out and should work again?

You can try removing the battery and AC adapter from the laptop like you stated, then hold down the power button for 15-20 seconds. That will "flush" the power out of your system and is a common cause for the media buttons to stop working. If the media buttons don't work after that, it is most likely a hardware problem that you will have to send into HP to fix.

And yes, you have to shell out a ridiculous amount of money for Office, because you only get a 60 day trial of the software.

Media button problem is common. Use battery removal fix talked about before. Try not to use hibernate. This seems to be one of the cuases of buttons stop working. But does not happen all the time.

Make sure your webcam does not lock up when you try to record video.

    Good luck.
