I priced an HDX lappy from HP just now, as I'm returning my brand new Alienware 9750, which I'm not very happy with at all. The HDX gives more for about the same price, which is around $2200.

The guts for the HP HDX include:

    Vista Premium
    Intel C2D T8300 @ 2.40GHz, 3MB L2, 800MHz FSB
    3GB DDR2
    8800M GTS
    240 GIG 7200rpm HDD
    20.1" Screen @ 1680x1050
    Intel Wireless 4965 a/b/g/n
8x DVD +/- RW Dual Layer

This is just about perfect, as I enjoy PC Gaming, and it should take care of everything else I need to do. Below are the specs from my Alienware I am planning on returning for the above model. What is everyone's thoughts? Seems like I'll be getting a better bang for the buck by going HP, like I've done a few times in the past. The only issue I've had in the past though was heating issues with my HP zd8000 with a P4 and a ATI X600 card.

I'm curious if HP has done a better job with cooling, especially this HDX series.

    Thanks for the replies!

This is my (temporary) brand new Alienware that's going back is the m9750 model with:

    Vista Home Premium
    Intel C2D T7200 @ 2.00GHz, 4MB L2, 667MHz FSB
    2GB DDR2
    Dual 8700M in SLI
    120GB 7200 RPM HDD
    17" Screen @ 1440x900
    Intel Wireless 3945 a/b/g
8x DVD +/- RW Dual Layer

1st off man spend the extra 75 bucks and get a penryn processor there listed with 6mb cache do a little research its got some benifits to it for sure, i would also upgrade to the better screen why get that big if you arent full 1080? you can deck out a 17 inch for cheaper then the hdx but if you want the hdx try to get the best in most categories for hardware i would upgrade to bluetooth/agn card (no wires or doggles rocks wireless headset too) buy ram on ur own and go minimum from them you can get it much cheaper online I have the dv9500t vista ultimate 64bit 2.4ghz w/ 4 gigs of ram and it runs great, processor, hard drives, video card, ram, screen, wireless/bluetooth are the main focus areas where u want as good as you can afford.

Hi i'v had my HDX 9120EA for 3 months now i have had some problems with

    (1) my web cam would only show black but when recorded then played back it was ok you just couldnt see what you were looking at

    (2) the bit of plastic above the webcam cracked when i first got it and after a month a peace snaped of

    (3) all my quick launch buttons keped going of every 3 days or so the only way i found to get them back on was do a bios update or downgrade

So anyway i phoned hp about all my problems after having anough crap from this laptop got it sent in for repair received it back 3 days later and i'v had it back about 2 weaks now with all the problems fixed never had any more problems up to date

So i would say its a very good laptop i love it but if you get one like mine full of problems dont do like i did by putting up with it for months get it sent back for a fix

    Hope this helps you

Ive used one at my local staples before and from my experience compaing to my DV9500t its actually quite nice. It has allot of Ports and Connections and it does have a internal TV Tuner ,Bass and Treble controls on the keyboard deck. The Lid of the laptop from what ive seen the HP Logo glows which is a very nice touch. i thinks its a great computer to get if you like watching allot of movies and TV
