Sorry - I had to start this one to match the HDX18 thread!
I just ordered my hdx16t, fully loaded for $1583.99 after the coupon.
I can't figure out why it's so much cheaper than the dv7t
-
I want to put my name on the list but not sure yet. I just returned the DV7 I bought because of these two. I kind of want to see a decked out HDX18 and the price, then I'll decide which of the two I will buy. Right now leaning towards the 16 only because the 18 is another inch+ longer than the DV7. Thats big......
-
the DV7 is small for a 17" notebook - I was admiring one today.
-
Funny thing - I ordered the DV7 - it's got a ship date of the 19th. I didn't cancel it yet because I think I want to get both and then return the loser.
-
Well I have a DV9700T I got earlier this year. And I have the DV7T now that I just returned, but I like the idea of something new. Though the DV7T, I got with the 30% off coupon which was really good, and I got another discount on top of that but oh well. It's returned. I just want them to post the HDX18 so I can customize one and check it all out before I finally decide what to get.
-
This is so unfair for me, i got the dv5t and now this HDX comes out and here in Saudi Arabia, we dont have any 21day return or exchange policy. Quick question, does any1 knw by now tht does the HDX has DD3 Ram and Vram support, or the only thing diff from dv5t is the triple bass sub and the screen.
-
I feel sorry for you. I just returned my DV7T because I saw these come out. Lucky for me that we do have the return policy here in America.
-
Ah well I guess I will live with it and anyhow I am abt to buy my extreme gaming pc by end of this yr or beginning of next year, so gonna save money now and invest in my gaming rig!
-
I just saw this notebook on Techbargains and I'm excited.
A few questions, though. HP is having a $500 off $1399 code and I'm thinking of pulling the trigger right now. If this came 3 weeks down the road, I'm in the clear, but I'm actually a little tight on cash right now. I'm in dire need of a notebook right now, but if a deal like this pops up every week, I'll wait.
Also, do you think the 9600m GT is a good card? I'm going to be connecting an external 24" monitor to my laptop in the future for online poker and I'm going to be doing some standard definition video editing. -
@Funk A DunK:
The HP coupon doesn't expire based on a time limit- it expires after 2700 uses. You can wait- I don't think they'll be 2700 people buying laptops who know the code within like a week, but I should say that wait too long and the coupon may become invalid
That being said- only 1 week after the 30% off coupon expired- HP came up with the 500 off coupon. So you may be fine. -
Hey guys,
I was looking to buy dv7t, but with HDX 16 and HDX 18 introduced I am having second thoughts. Also, regarding coupons, 500$ is great deal for me, but I am having my brother coming back from the states in December. So I am looking for suggestion, to wait? Will prices go down coming to new year and will be there another great discounts like this one?
Thank you! -
They always have coupons, but the 500 off 1399 is one of the rarer ones, comes out 2-3 times a year it seems and only lasts a week or less.....I'd use it asap, another great deal is the 30% off they have sometimes, or $400 off 1299 custom built......So technically unless you spend over $1650 on a custom built laptop with the 30% off coupon this one for $500 off $1399 is the best coupon available, as far as them coming down in price, I dont think much....they might start giving small "free upgrade" options but I dont think it will come down by anymore than $100 anytime soon.
-
@votdfak--
I had ordered the dv5t originally- 'cause I had heard the new HDX wasn't supposed to come out until mid-October (boy- was I mistaken!). But once I saw the HDX out- what really got me was the screen resolution.
I was used to having 1920 by 1280- so having practically half that resolution was really annoying me. But with the HDX, I finally got that resolution, or, at least close to it, and it only costs an extra 25 bucks- not the extra 100 that the others have- and who only get up to 1680 by 1050, or somewhere around there.
To tell you the truth, I don't think prices will come down anytime soon- especially with the holiday season approaching. There may be a few little free upgrades here and there, but honestly- upgrading everything in the HDX isn't that much anyway. Upgrading the hard drive from 250 to 320 cost an extra 35 bucks. The dv5t's upgrade costed almost twice, if not three times that much!! Memory wasn't that bad either. Even the processor upgrade wasn't too bad. -
For you guys that like ebay, here is a **** near maxed out HDX16T on ebay being sold by one of the resellers:
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-HP-HDX16T-16-0-T9600-Core-2-Duo-2-8GHz-Blu-Ray-HDX_W0QQitemZ270276448674QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item270276448674&_trkparms=72:570|39:1|66:1|65:12|240:1309&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 -
So I'm thinking about pulling the Trigger. This laptop has what I've been looking for and it looks pretty slick but I cannot find much Photos on it, currently.
Anyone has better luck, like close-up of the keyboard and such?
I did find some useful information on the GPU for anyone interested..
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-9600M-GT.9449.0.html
I don't care so much for Blu-Ray as I do not own any movies of such. I just wanna a quick laptop for multi-tasking and be able to watch movies and play some emulators.
Do you think we can Dual-Boot eventually XP and Vista? Or even linux? With this device.. -
I feel this will be the deal (500 off) I'll pull the trigger on. Going to sleep on it one night though. If all 2700 coupons have been used by the time I get in... que sara sara.
@kewlkat - You can dual boot on any system with a little work. If you must use Windows, then so be it. First thing I'll do is document (video) my refusal of the EULA and install Ubuntu ASAP! No since wasting a perfectly good computer... -
I just ordered a DV7t and it's on it's way....then headed right back! I love the DV7t, but the screen was the deal breaker. Why they didn't offer the ultrabright is beyond me; especially when almost every review said that the screen was a bit dull. If I'm paying $2500 for a laptop that I want to use for gaming it better have a friggin' awesome screen. Soon as it get's here it goes back home and the I will get he HDX18t maxed out. Is there a new coupon out for $500 off a configurable notebook of $1399 or higher. Where can I f ind that coupon code?
-
NB0915 is the code you're looking for. As found on slickdeals forum. -
Thanx so much! This will really help out. How long has the coupon been active do you thinnk. I just barely got the $200 of the DV7t in on time. I can't wait until the HDX18t is offered. I am really looking forward to the 9:16. Gaming FP shooters on 9:16 is really fun.
-
Yup, you're welcome Stuka. I can't say how long it will be good for. I've read it expires after being used 2700 times. The deal was posted just today, on the forum I found it on... but that don't mean diddley.
I had called HP while configuring mine about the warranty upgrade. When I told the rep which system I was ordering, he said "Oh, we've discontinued the HDX line." It was news to him the 16 was out. -
Great you bought the 16t. I am going for the 18t. Need that extra screen. Just hope I can find a hard case for it.
-
Any idea when the 18t is coming out? I know some people are *speculating* that it'll be Monday, but is that official?
-
Well if HDX18 comes out on Monday, maybe I'll pull a trig... depense if 500$ deal will be still on...
And then I'll wait two months for my lil brother that's in the states... Because, in my country... you can buy 3 diff models... -
I just ordered the HDX16 yesterday and its fully loaded, except for the tv tuner... i dont think im going to be watching tv on my laptop when i have 3 screens in my house already. and one question- is the Lightscribe super multi 8x the blu ray drive? when i went to order the laptop there were no options for the optical drive.
-
If you go to HP's site and run through the 16" product demo and click on the processor details it seems to suggest that a Quad Core CPU will be available for this. Currently it isn't but maybe once the q9100 and qx9300 are widely available it will be an option. I wonder if this product may also eventually offer a higher end gpu. The more important questions are how is the overall build quality, the thermals, and the detailed specs on the LCD--I've been burned badly by a POS HP dv9000. I too am only interested in the 18.4"...
-
-
It's not listed as an option to buy when you configure, however if you run the Product Demo it is mentioned/referenced when you click on the intel inside pointer. It may be an error or it may suggest quad core options are coming... -
Just Ordered a HDX16 with the 500 coupon! I stuck to the 2gb configuration since this is easily upgradeable. Does anyone know if DD3 is supported for the memory and any newegg deals?

Super Multi is DVD only. I just went to the site and I see the option there:
LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer -
I just tried to order.. i think the $500 off coupon expired... :-(
-
It doesn't work anymore for me either. I think what sped up the coupon uses was that it got posted on slickdeals yesterday I think.
-
There will be another one..there always is...
Hopefully it will be an even better one. -
I hope so too. I had the **** thing in my cart this morning with the code working fine.. I finally decided to pull the trigger this afternoon but went back to change it from 32bit to 64bit windows and by the time I got to checkout again.. no go for the coupon code... ugh....
-
Lol the super multi is fine for me, i don't watch many blu ray movies anyways... i got the 500 off coupon so im happy with my order.

My assessment is that prices will fall dramatically no later than the 1st quarter of next year. The US, and likely the rest of the world, is going into a deep recession. Just look at the companies going bankrupt and the layoffs in the financial industry. Do you think Fannie Mae, Lehman, B of A, WAMU, Freddie Mac et. al. are going to be buying laptops any time soon? They are not only not buying, they'll be flooding the market with "slightly used" ones!
HP, Dell and Sony will be deeply discounting just to generate some cash. Some of the smaller makers will disappear altogether. So be careful about who buy an extended warranty from. -
Well guys, since I already ordered mine about 30 minutes ago
There is another coupon code that can be used to get the $500 off.
I had the same situation as some of you - It was in my cart, configured, with the coupon code applied and ready to check out. I refreshed the page and it was gone. I called HP hoping to have them just give me the coupon code anyways, and to my surprise they said it worked!
It turns out, says the sales rep, that there are a certain amount of coupons reserved for the Customer Assistance personnel to use. It may not be too late for you to call and order your laptops today if you are quick about it. If you already had your configuration in mind, it is just as quick and easy as ordering online and the sales reps that I have spoken with are generally nice and easily understood.
Best Wishes
Kevin
On a separate note: Does anybody know if all of the hardware included in this laptop is windows XP compatible? Drivers, etc? -

Update on the HDX16t when configuring it that i'm finding odd. It no longer starts with the lower 2.0 GHz processor, no longer an upgrade to 4GB of ram option, and most importantly, no upgrade to 1080p
-
Wonder why the changes and why no 1080p display or 4GB RAM? Weird. -
With that coupon code just out and all the deal sites it made it to, I'm sure they ran out of supplies. The configuration they offered in general didn't include options that it was suppose to have like a 7200RPM drive or a burnable blu-ray drive. Those should show up later.
-
-
-
They even took out the high definition 1920x1080 screen option. I was about to pull the dang trigger today too. Guess I'll wait for HDX 18t to popout.
-
Times are rough, and HP still can't handle the amount of orders. I'd hate to be them when times are GOOD...
