So, I'm having some issues with my HDX which has been flawless. It'sjust over 18months old.

One day all of a sudden the screen went fuzzy. I noticed when I bring the screen down (toward closing position) it then sharpens up and goes back to normal but only at that angle.

At first when this happened, the longer the laptop was on, the further I could push the screen back without it going fuzzy.

But now I can't and I can only view the screen at quite a low angle, it's very close to the keyboard. I've noticed it's going lower and lower each day!!

When the screen goes fuzzy it can be just fuzzy or even a coloured fuzz (different variety). It can also flicker to normal and fuzzy when I’m trying to find that angle where I can get a clear screen.
I’ve looked online and people have tried changing the inverter but the problem is still there, even buying a new lcd!! But it still could be one of them.

I know it’s not an lcd problem as the screen is flawless when I find that clear angle. Any suggestion please? I have a feeling it’s going to reach a point when I won’t be able to see anything at all and it’ll stay fuzzy.

I just called HP and they offer NO support for HDX models if it's got to do with the screen. But if it's for example a keyboard or non screen related problem they are willing to do an out of warranty repair.
I obviouslt questioned the guy and said it must mean you guys have a lot of screen problems but he claims all aprts are out of stock and product is discontinued. Surely they would still have a lot of parts anyway.

Anyone else have any suggestions? I think I may open it up on Wednesday and have a look at the connection from motherboard to lcd and hope it's a loose one.

Bad screen cable sounds most likely...

Did you ever figure out a solution to this problem? I have an HP Pavilion dv9000 and I am having the same exact problem. When I pull screen toward me, it all clears up, otherwise, the screen (particularly the colored areas) are all fuzzy with small lines throughout. Very frustrating.

So I got a used working screen connector cable from ebay because I took the laptop apart and whenever I play with the cable with the laptop on it does clear up, so it seemed like the problem.

Anyway, got it and swapped it out. But now it is even worse!! The screen flickers like mad, but the whole screen is not visible, it's mainly black and whatever flickers it'll be random.

Get this, the same problem happens when I put in my OLD screen connecter cable!!

So I got in touch with the seller since he has a inverter for sale too and asked him if he may have any suggestions because I think it MAY be the inverter.

He advised that it maybe the graphics card as the inverter should be replaced if the screen doesn't work at all.

I still don't know what to do, I may try the inverter and if it doesn't solve my problem, return it. And then finally try a new graphics card.

It's getting to be a bit of a headache now. I mean how can it be the graphics card if it works flawlessly on my lcd tv when plugged in via hdmi.
Could it be the LCD panel itself?

I'm glad I sold my HDX16 when it started giving me problems... I had the same issue as you, except I dropped a book the size of an encyclopedia on it, so I had to replace the screen AND hdd.. Ugh.

Yeah, I've got 2 options left the screen or the graphics card. Defo not the card since it works on an external monitor.

Time to source a new lcd panel at a good price.

So far, best I can find is from Hong Kong but for £95.
They seem quite hard to find! Not a good sign.
