I have a new HDX16, vista 64bit, 4gb ram, 5400 rpm HDD, 2.0 p7350, with 1g of 130M. It's new, installed updates and all. I noticed sometimes working, HDD going really crazy, and computer freezes for few seconds, miniseconds even but it's noticable and annoying, especially considering the power of the laptop. Sometimes happens even while watching movie, or listenning to music - which is even more annoying.

any help? what could be the problem?

Hmmm. I don't have this problem. Did you have this problem before updating?

Don't remember really, but I think yes... I hoped updates would fix something.

Also under performance monitor, I see allot of Hardware errors, like 600 shoots up and then goes to 1-2. is this normal?

I ended up loading a clean install of windows 7(because I am going to the MS event) and every problem went away. The default load of vista really kindof sucks. Cracling audio, excessive disk usage blah blah....

My audio only cracks when Vista is starting up. But then again, so does my Toshiba running Vista. No biggie really.

I just got mine the other day as well and of course all factory OEM images suck.

I immediately rebuilt the OS from scratch and haven't had any issues other than the flakey HP Quick Launch buttons under x64 Windows, they work but not everytime even with the latest drivers, etc.

This isn't too big of a deal as I am certain they will get fixed once the official launch of Windows 7 takes place as most consumers from here on out will be on a x64 platform if they aren't already...

Awesome notebook otherwise and it run Windows 7 x64 like a champ...

Torrents... Go look for "win7 build 7600" and you will find it. Once it's out you can simply activate it by purchasing a license, downloading the RTM version is not illegal.

hm, I installed windows 7, I loved it... but I better wait for oem package. I don't trust torrent downloaded OS. I recovered system to factory defaults and amazing thing happened all the spikes are gone, it's stable green around 90 when idle, and goes around 200 when watching movies. no problems at all!

could it be that windows update, did something bad that messed up drivers? only thing that comes to mind...

Yes. Never use Windows Update to update drivers on a brand-name computer, as this will install generic Microsoft drivers thus disable any optimizations that the manufacturer might have made.

hm, now that I look through the list of updates, I don't see drivers. it's just security patches for win.

I need advice, should I just forget and turn off updates? or I should try at least some of fixes?

Install the fixes, but refuse if it wants to install any drivers.

Yeah. I know i spent a whole month figuring out the sound stutters on my DV9700, to find that it was the nVidia PowerMizer at fault.

okay small recap on last few weeks I'm messing with laptop.

I installed, Vista sp2 64, clean install. Downloaded all drivers from the topic on this forum. Still get small freezes and hiccups, while watching movies it's annoying and noticeable...

I installed win7 latest build, downloaded drivers, everything seems to be working, except the hickup issue is more pronounced then on vista.

I'm puzzled, to the extent that I hate this laptop. Unfortunately time for exchange is over. I have to live with this or figure out what to do.
