You can dual boot with windows, might be even easier with 2 drives, but I use my second drive for storage.
here is a link,

Well I finally got my HDD caddy from newmodeus.com after a couple delays, unfortunately the connector is broke. (sighs) back to the waiting game I guess.
-
I currently dual boot between Vista & 7 with no problems. You just have to create a new partition using the partition tool built into disk management to install Windows 7 on. Go here: http://lifehacker.com/5126781/how-to-dual-boot-windows-7-with-xp-or-vista and follow their instructions on how to do this.

You beat me to it.

so speaking of drives ive been looking for the seagate momentus 500gb HDD... i think i found it on dell's site but before i buy it i just wanted to confirm with you guys that this is the one im looking for
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...ail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=eep&cs=6045&sku=341-8658 -
Yep, that's the one.
-
Yeah, I've pressed and held it repeatedly, and it just blinks back and forth between red and green, but it won't sync. Vista says that it's installed and working correctly. I've tried reinstalling several times, too. I guess I'll just return it and get a USB mouse.
Of course, maybe the bluetooth on the laptop has gone bonkers. Yikes, I hope not. Maybe I should try to sync my iPhone.
Thanks for the suggestion, Rodknee! -
One more question for 18t owner from a potential 18t owner
:
I saw on HP website it mentions "Dual Lamp". What does that mean? Thanks in advance.
The words "Dual Lamp" can be found in this way: Go to the link below, click "specs" tab in the middle of the page. You will see "Dual Lamp" in the "Dimensions" field.
http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/s...e+and+entertainment&series_name=HDX18t_series -
Try updating your bluetooth driver? Go to the manufacturer's website instead of using microsoft one.
-
I guess that I should have said that the manufacturer is Microsoft, but I'll check to see if they have an update.
Thanks! -
I think that it means it's a dual lit screen, which is a really good thing. I think that's why the screen is so nice!
-
This is great! Thanks guys!
Looks like I'll have 3 partitions on my HDX18t!! lol. Vista 64, Ubuntu 64, and Windows 7!!
I'll be posting both guides over at HPHDX.net shortly. -
Means that there are 2 lights behind the LCD.
Saying that its better its not entirely true, the image will be better, but you will have double Backlight Bleeding( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFc-8rwNIOA ), so in dark scene could be a negative factor, really depends how much bleeding those lights do. -
For those of you who missed the last $250 off stackable coupon, HP has a new one for $250 off. The code is: NB5134. Just tried it on hp's site and it works. And if anybody purchased one in the last 21 days, without a coupon, HP will price match, so just call them up and give them the coupon code and they'll credit your card $250! Cool, huh?!
-
I ordered mine this Monday. I'm really anxious to get it. What's been the average time to delivery (from start to finish) for custom models?
-
thanks a bunch. on its way right now
-
10 days to 3 weeks if you bought a customized one. 5 days or less if you bought a pre-configured one.
-
Hello,
I live in Toronto and have just bought a HDX 18 from Best Buy. I am having a hard time finding a bag or case for it. I've been to best buy, futureshop and a few other places. Any suggestions? Any input would be much appreciated.
thanks. -
Depends what you like. I have a Targus backpack I absolutely love. It fits perfectly and also I tend to travel quite a bit. So it's easier as a backpack since I can also pack some clothes and other extras. A briefcase type laptop case cannot hold as much as is heavy. I'd rather the weight on my back (I know I know not good) than my arm carrying it.
-
Hey AONE,
Go check out HPHDX.NET man.
The Accessories page has a good selection of Bags!

Best Buy was selling HDX18's in your area? I haven't seen anything that high end in Dallas/Fort Worth. Very nice.
I'm using the Targus CPT401 17" with dome protection. My 18.4" HDX18t actually fits nicely, and I keep my power brick in the front pocket. I just ordered the Case Logic bag for 18.4" laptops, so I may be returning the Targus if the Case Logic is nicer (or vice versa). I had the Multigiant Dicota which was designed for the 20" HP Dragon, but it was just too big: I felt self conscious carrying around what looked like a suitcase.
I've been trying to post pics of my backlit keyboard, but I can't seem to figure out how picture posting works in this forum. I've read through the guides, but I must be missing something. -
Ok this is gonna sound like a dumb question but I have to ask it since TWC is apparently gonna be putting caps on bandwidth usage on their customers.
I'm interested in getting Clearwire for now until the official 4G WiMax is brought out here by Sprint. I think they're calling it "Clear" now over in Portland Oregon.
Anyways I was on Clearwire's website and it said something about you could purchase a PC Card and that will provide you with mobile internet. However you need to have the slot.
How do I know if the HDX 18t has the slot. On the left side I think I see it but it's closed/blocked. Is that the way it's supposed to be? How do I remove it?
Or is that the Express Card already inside of the laptop? -
The PC Card which Clearwire is selling requires a PMCIA slot, which the HDX18t does not have. They do have an Express Card in the works (yes, that is the Express Card slot on the left side. To remove it, gently press in and release. It's also where you put the remote control).
"• The Clearwire pc card currently requires a Type II/Cardbus PCMCIA card slot. The ExpressCard 54 form factor will be available soon."
Another option would be the wireless modem that they sell. -
Yeah I saw that...but still what about the rest
I mean do we have a card or is it just the slot?
And how do I access it more importantly....that's the real thing I care about. -
It is just an Express Card slot. To access it, gently press in and release. You would have to purchase the card whenever it becomes available. Unless of course you want to find a PMCIA to Express Card adapter and that can become an expensive option IMO.
Are you want to use at home or on the road? They offer a wireless modem which can be used with a wired/wireless router. -
I want to be able to use it at home. The thing is that both my mom and I have laptops.
Connecting the family desktop wouldn't be an issue since we could use an ethernet cable but how would the laptops require anything special to connect to the Clearwire signal?
And then further on down the road when WiMax becomes available in my area (which I know it will be this year) would I have to get anything special for the laptops to connect to it. It's okay if you can't answer that question. I'm more interested in the home usage.
According to this guy who works for Clearwire they will be switching networks officially over to Wimax later on and so ur rate will stay the same but u'll get even better speeds and hardware upgrades in terms of the modem, etc.... -
Right now to use at home you would just need one of Clearwire's wireless modems and a wired/wireless router. What are you using with TWC?
Do you know if they will be using similar/same equipment as Sprint? If so, I know that Sprint sells a wireless 3G EVDO/4G WiMax modem that plugs directly into USB port on your notebook. -
My current setup is the TWC modem that has only 1 ethernet port in the back. I have it connected to a wireless router from Linksys and then that has 4 ports on the back of course.
My laptop and my mom's laptop are connected to the router wirelessly. The desktop is connected thru ethernet cable.
And as far the equipment I think it will similar to Sprints. Anyways I'm very excited about Clear from Sprint so I'm thnking of just jumping TWC's retarded ship and just going to Clearwire so I'll be locked in at a low rate and be able to enjoy the benefits of 4G WiMax when it officially makes it way out here. I live in Raleigh and I know for sure it will hit Charlotte this year. I'm hoping and fairly certain it will hit Raleigh soon. If not I may just look into grad school in Charlotte...lol.
Thanks fora ll your help man! I definitely feel dumb now. I was pushing that slot but nothing was happening. I pushed a little harder (actually significantly harder) and it finally came out... -
The wireless modem that Clearwire currently offers is similar to your TWC modem in that you would plug it into your router that you are currently using.
-
I too have TWC. From what I know, they are the few remaining cable companies to not have bandwidth caps. Where did you hear about this and when will they do it?
-
Yeah, I heard this too.
I was listening to TWIT w/ Leo Laporte, and they were all over this subject. There is talk of dropping to a 60gb cap (if memory serves me) a month.
One of the guys called and talked to TWC and they said pretty much they are just throwing the idea out there to see how the public responds.
Nothing official yet! -
Ok drooling. I wonder if my wife will let me buy 2 of those for my HDX. 2 7200 RPM 500GB drives would be nice. -
I had the same problem with the express card slot, had to call tech support. The little placeholder does not come out easily! So glad when it was out to finally have a place to stick that tiny remote!
Now I want to ask a dumb question: doesn't Sprint give you a modem when you sign up that you can connect to the wireless router? Or at least charge very little? Seems they would want to do that to get customers. -
Yes it is.
-
If you are talking about WiMax from Sprint, they do offer a wireless modem which can be plugged into a wired/wireless modem. http://www.xohm.com/en_US/shop/devices/ Unfortunately, they offer only in limited areas. You can check here to see if they have service for you: http://www.xohm.com/apps/coverage-tracker/

I just ordered the Logitech Z-2300 speakers from HP's Website for $100.39 shipped!
They are 200 watt RMS (120 watts to the Sub) and THX Certified! This is a great deal!
I used my APP Account and Coupon SV2130 which is $10 off any order over $50!!!
This will be a great compliment to my HDX18t which ships next week!
-
You will love them. I use them with my HDX18t.
-
Good to know!!
Now I will just have to decide if I need to invest in a ExpressCard Sound Card.
-
IMO they sound good enough just plugging into the headphone output.
-
Can someone please help me?
-
When I push the eject button on the CD drive it does not eject always. Sometimes it will but most times it wont. I end up having to go to the drive and right clicking it to eject it which never fails. The eject on the keyboard does not work either. When I touch it it clicks but the drive does nothing. Any recommendations?
-
Only a day ago, I was talking to our "Platinum Tier" tech support in Canada about this issue and the bass/treble not staying on the screen long enough to do anything, sliding withthe finger seems hard, although volume works easier, and mute takes a while. Checking on their own HDX lab machine, I got the reply that, yes, you do have to press hard and in the right spot. Well, thanks for nothing. I might as well reach to the slide and slick, it ejects right away, sure saves time.
Function keys work better after a previous tech said to uninstall everything under keyboard in Device Manager, then reboot, then go to All Programs/Recovery Manager, hit Advanced down at the bottom and then select install hardware and drivers. After that is done, reboot and download the recent Quick Launch Buttons file and run it. He didn't say to uninstall Quick Launch first, but I did. -
BIOS Update: F.21A is now out.

Rage;
The Swiss Gear is exactly what I'm looking for BUT are you/we SURE that the 18t fits? I don't want to purchase and have to send it back... -
I have the Swiss Gear Wenger® Pegasus Laptop Backpack... works great.
However, the HDX18t DOES NOT fit in the laptop compartment. It DOES however fit in the secondary compartment (just is not suspended like the laptop section is). Works fine as long as you are not the type to DROP the backpack. -
Is there any difference in the touchpads of the 16 and 18 models, beside the hp imprint lines not lining up right? Is the 16 version smaller or anything? Also, has anybody been successful in getting this replaced, or is it not worth it?
-
