Wait so, the first one that you bought on the 28th and the second one that you bought on the 3rd are coming on the same day? That makes no sense because there is a 6 day interval between them. No, what happened was when they cancelled the original order according to them it was already to late for them to stop it so it shipped. I didn't mind because the 2nd order was the same setup & configuration but with the 30% off coupon.
So realistically all they have to do is NOT ship the 2nd order and cancel the 1st one with out the coupon. Which is what I thought they would do.
NOPE.
Received the 1st order (Non Coupon) today and just got an e-mail that the 2nd (30% off) is shipping out.

They had 2 options.
All they had to do was credit me (Too difficult for them)
or
Allow the 1st order to ship then cancel it on paper and Keep the 2nd order from shipping but allow the 30% off order to go through.

Pretty simple but they are so discombobulated as a company....uggh

Anyway, camera is charging. Gonna do a lil video... Yeah, I am excited but hate when things don't go smoothly because lack of common sense.

Oh, believe me. I'm getting my money back. I have the cancellation confirmation # from when I did it.

I Just did the unboxing and everything is 9.9 so far. Looks spankin' new and not refurb or repackaged.

The only thing I've seen was a slight smudgy/gluey/gummy/bird flu like smudge on the top right hand corner of the screen next to the model # that's why no 10.
I recorded the unboxing w/ my HD cam so give me a day or 2.

I will be doing a thorough inspection, boot and config all night tonight w/ some tests w/ my DJ Software. I think i'll record that also.

This aughta be fun.

 

Can anyone tell me what " Order in production
(Estimated to ship on August 13, 2009) " means? I'm wondering if it means it COMES to my house on the 13th or HP sends it out from China on the 13th and then it comes. I think that if it was supposed to come on the 13th it would say delivery on 13th but I'm just wondering

I had a similar adventure. I ordered mine using the academic discount. Two days later I found the 30% off coupon. It was too late to cancel the order so I had to wait for it to arrive (today, 8/10) and send it back. In the meantime I reordered another one using the coupon. My current NB is an HP Pavillion dv9000 series.

I am not a gamer, but I do like to have my programs run quickly and smoothly. I am only slightly knowledgeable, so help is appreciated.

Although my hdx hasn't arrived yet and I don't even have that build, I am sure that is going to do anything you want it to. You could game with that, but you said you didn't really game, so that will run normal programs flawlessly.

At least that is my opinion without having used one.

EDIT: BTW how much did that cost and how much did you save with the coupon?

"ship on August 13, 2009" is just that--it SHIPS on August 13th. Like I said earlier, with international air and customs, it's impossible for HP to guarantee a DELIVERY date of August 13.

The i7 is great but I want dual GPU's to go with an i7...

The smaller a drive (and the larger the cache) the faster it will respond.. replacing one drive for your OS and apps in a read only configure will really make the machine super fast.. the SSD's are 400% faster than the little 60gb raptors.. (dont quote me on the 60gb maybe a lil smaller or bigger, but they run 10,000rpm's or 15,000rpms in some other cases)

Along with the hated IE8.... No problems to report other than the finger print scanner needs a clean install (I hope that fixxes the Problem). My DV7 used different software for the finger print scanner so it may well be user error.

After reading that whole thread, do you know if the finger print scanner is compatible with IE8 now? The thread seems to have started sometime in June and I want to know if DP has fixed the "error" by now.

I have never played a game on the internet. I have played the common games that come on the computer, but nothing else.

Which chip do you have? That will control the mobo and chip set more than whether it is a HDX or HP...

I have a quad with a Quantas Mobo and everything flows from the board based on the chip requirements.

So which chip do you have and what bus speed? then I will try to back into an answer for you.. I will look on your profile and see if I can tell.

I was told here we (HDX) users could not upgrade our GPU becuase it is welded in place.. the HDX 18 uses a MXM2 slot and can be changed.. the fact the Bios is locked and all we can do is repleace abad part bugs me to no end.. but thats why they make Clevo aftermarket rigs.. the HDX is just a stable work horse that can be made fairly speedy with the right hardware.

It said that it had shipped. It was picked up from Shanghai at 11:59AM yesterday(august 11). It was supposed to be shipped August 12th so I guess I will get it a day early. Also I got two day shipping.

 

Yours sounds about the same as mine. Would you tell me why you chose the processor that you did? I don't really know anything about them, so I just chose the one that had the most cache, because I read somewhere that that was more important than the ghz. Do you agree?

Mine shipped about the same time yours did. There is no other activity on Fedex website. I didn't get the two day shipping. I guess we will just have to wait it out. Hope to get it Friday, but maybe not till Monday.

What do you think about the graphics card. From what I have read, it is only mid-range, with moderate performance.

 

From what I've read on this and other threads, the 2-day shipping is a rip, since it has to leave CN anyway, so I didn't opt for it. Maybe it's worth it. I'll think I should have paid for it when my package doesn't arrive before I need it

 

Wow! I ordered another HDX18 on 8/4. It shipped from China on 8/11 at 3:03 am, my time, departed Anchorage 8/11 at 5:59 pm, and it's on the truck this morning for delivery. It was estimated to be delivered Monday 8/17. I went with standard delivery. I guess it's because I live in Fort Worth, TX, and we have a Fedex facility at Alliance Airport.

 

Ok, just got it delivered at 9:06 am. There is grit all under the adhesive plastic that they put on the top of the laptop lid to protect it. Nice.

 

Aww... that doesn't sound nice. Hope the rest of the unit is in good condition.

 

Thank you, me too. I got it with the 30% coupon, and I don't want to have to battle HP about a replacement at the same price. I fired it up, and the backlight on the keyboard is kind of weak compared to my other HDX18. I hope that there won't be scratches on the lid from all of that sawdust looking stuff under the plastic. Oh well, we'll see tonight. If I have to send it back, I won't be antsy since I've got my original, and it works (and looks) great. My wife isn't impatient about such things, especially since she can use mine.

Well, the other HDX18 is gonna be here on the 17th. I've been "Testing" on this one and it is pretty stable. I've installed Win7 64&32 BETAS,
I also attempted an xp64 but seems as the Q9100 isn't supported so it Blue screens when it gets to the windows install.

I also think this one is defective because it seems as though the Left speaker isn't on the left.
When I shift the balance to the left it sounds muffled and comes from the middle as if they have the configuration of the speaker wrong.
Actually, It doesn't sound as if there is a speaker on the left at all. All the audio comes from the center and right portion of the speaker position.
Can anyone else confirm this?
When you move the balance, Does yours actually play sound on the LEFT & RIGHT sides of the Laptop???

 

I just got mine and it's in MINT shape; looks like it just came from the clean room. Maybe just the luck of the draw.

 

Very nice! Our's is probably ok, too, but it makes me wonder seeing that grit.

 

If you get scratches I recommend Meguiars professional clear plastic cleaner. Works great and NAPA auto parts carries it.

 

I had to push some of the plastic pieces into place.. the left speaker cover where it met the plastic body around the type / key pad.. and above the f7 key needed to be poped into place.. there seems to be a dent in the key pad where w,e,s,d are located on the keypad.. but it runs flawlesly and there is no way I am sending it back for cosmetics to get back something less than perfect working wise.. I will take the lil things being wrong verse the real nutz and bolts being off..

I love my laptop dont get me wrong and I would buy another tomorrow if the need arised but it was not sent perfectly put together na dit does have the one dent or flaw in the key board.

I hope that someone takes solice in the fact that they are not alone and that it worked out ok for me in the long run.

I am glad yours was perfect though, maybe next time for me.

Maybe if you have a 130m Nvidia you can download the new update and get the Nvidia sound driver as well.. that may help you and its a free fix maybe..

You will see the download / update button at the middle / top of the page and follow the link.. My speakers are over worked and I have had no issues..

I did disable the microsoft sounds and I am running the IDT sounds at 24bit 192000mhz (Studio)..

Maybe in playback that would help you.. right click the speaker icon.. click on playback and make adjustments as you see fit.. maybe restoring to defaults and re-starting before you get into adjustments will bring back the control you have lost somewhere.

I got the T9900 for the higher Ghz, but i would have gotten a quad processor if i had more money. I don't know too much about the technicalities of processors and how the difference in Ghz and cache work, but i do know that the quad processors are better. Except I think they generate more heat.

I would have liked an option for a better graphics card but it should be fine. I don't know if you can replace it later, I think I heard that you couldn't, not sure though.

 

I understand about the money issue. I have also heard that you cannot replace the graphics card. At least not without replacing the mobo. Way too advanced for me!

As for the heat issue, I bought a cooler from Newegg. It is the Evercool Royal NP 91 for about $35. I have received it and it is pretty good. The HDX will hang over on the sides by about half inch right and left, but it has three fans and keeps my hp dv9000 quite cool.

 

Can anyone tell me why I would want the Blu-Ray +/-R/RW. Does that just mean I can burn highdef dvds? Thanks for the help

 

I need some help here guys. My quad came with a BD Writer, and now it says Optiarc BD ROM BC-5500S. I sent my unit back to HP to repair the DVD drive faceplate, and I think they may have replaced it with a wrong unit. They replaced my BD Writer with a BD ROM! Does that sound right?
