Not quite! What's wrong with your core #2 and #3? Their temps would lead one to think those cores are not working. Their temps are more like the ambient temp inside your PC! My temps for all the cores are about the same (with core 2 and 3 running a little bit lower, but not the extreme you have!!)
Anyone else care to show their core 2 and 3 temps?

Just an idea. -

I got in on the Black Friday 40% Cashback through Live and I haven't received any notification from MS. Anyone else not hear anything yet? I contacted them on Monday via email and haven't received a response.

This is of course if it's actual got something dirty on it. If it's just fingerprints or someting, the microfiber cloth is enough.
And now some of you will probably think I am crazy (atleast I hope not.) I like my laptop lids and laptops in general clean and nice -
Hi All,
I am thinking about purchasing the HDX18t with the most BASIC CPU and upgrade later to the Quad. Will I need a new motherboard for this?
My assumption is that the prices will drop sharply after the Core7i introduction and the bad economy continuing.
I'm also not sure what made HP increase the prices by 60% (I remember reading on this thread that some ppl got the Quad core for about $1500? - then $1300 after the Live.com discount)?
Looking forward to your respones,
Steve -
my quad was delayed (was to ship 12/2 and now not until 12/7). HP sent me 50.00 cash coupon for their store.

Here is a 30 min run.... Can you post a CPU-Z pic?
Fans ramped up 2-3 minutes in and temps capped and stayed the same the last 20-22 minutes of the run.
I'm not sure what is going on with Cores 0/1 if it is a misread or problem, but it passed the 30 min stress test and the air coming out the back was warm, but not scorchingly hot (like gaming on my M-ALX, I could roast chestnuts on that puppy, but it never crashed or locked). Both chips capped at their respective readings and like I said, stayed there for the last 20-22 of the run. The readings seem to be somewhat equally displaced between Chip 1 (0/1) and 2 (2/3) idle and under load.
I ordered mine on 11/23, and it was in my hands by 12/01. I ordered before black friday and the rush.Attached Files:

I'm constantly cleaning them if I see any dust on them. Now, normal people (like most of my friends and clients), when I work on their notebooks, they are bio-hazard zones...they look like no one ever cleans them! Fingerprints, dirt, grease, etc. How can people stare at that? -
A few questions from a Noobie...
Is anyone familiar with the MrRebates.com site? It appears that it is similar to LiveSearch, but may get money sooner. They are offering a 5% HP bonus.
What do people think is the "most bang for the buck" HDX18 configuration for under $1750 or under $2000? I need to somewhat conserve finances right now, but family needs a new notebook and HDX18 fits every family members needs. More bang for buck in upgrading to Vista Ultimate, T9400 or T9600, 4GB RAM, larger and/or faster rpm HDD, etc. Any and all input greatly appreciated.
Also, I stated in an earlier reply that I found a HP code NB9485 which replaces the $200 instant savings with $400 instant savings. Do others think that this is best I can do before Xmas, or should I wait for better deal? Crystal balls anyone!

Interestingly, I turned my HDX18t on (just awaken it from sleep), and HWMONITOR showed my core 2 and 3 much lower than core 0 and 1.
But, 0 and 1 were too high, over 100C for a newly turned on PC???
I rebooted, and now my temps are all pretty much equal (60-70C on mostly idle).
Try rebooting your HDX18 and see if that helps stabilize your readings. -
OK, I just ran the PRIMEZ95, but for only less than 10 minutes, because it didn't seem to change too much after that.
My experience was--the fans came on almost immediately and were running so fast and loud it was scary! After 3 minutes or so, i felt the air pouring out the back and it was so hot, the vents almost hurt to touch them.
My temps were close to 200F degrees, which I don't think is good.
I wonder if this was an issue they (HP) had which stopped them from building them at first?
I'm going to do more investigation.
Can anyone with a 2.53Ghz Core2Duo run the HWMONITOR 64 bit and Prime95 and see what your temps are? -
holy smokes lancorp!
now i am nervous to get the quad! even if it did only cost me about 750.00!
wonder if there will be a fix for the heat??? -
Well I guess that settles it then. I'm definitely going for the T9600. I was hoping that the temps weren't that big a deal and I was willing to try it out but it sounds like it's really too hot.

Also I wanted to ask a couple of people at the Best Buy I work who have been there a long time and who I trust a lot what their thoughts were on which processor. 1 said the T9600 while 1 said the Quad and the 3rd said both are really good but if I was doing gaming (which I'm not) I should get the Quad.
Hey vistabad was the T9600 great for playing Bluray movies? Any hiccups or w/e? -
Hi guys,
Just read through the entire thread, very good info. I am a new HDX 18t owner thanks to the Black Friday fiasco (laptop in producion, no cashback yet). I got the basic model which set me back only $839.40 after (hopefully) cashback and before taxes. Figure I'll add the 4GB ddr2, 64Gb SSD and 500gb HDD later and cheaper!
Did not know about the Vista Ultimate DVD until I read this thread, so thanks for that! Even though I don't have a serial # yet I was able to fill the box with zeros and they shipped me one. Goes to show how they check!
Also, I did not know about the caddy problem until I read in here, and I only ordered with one HDD installed. I did also contact newmodeUS.com about it and registered my interest in one, they say they'll keep me updated. I suggest everyone who needs one to email them and register interest too. If they think they have a good market they will produce one.
Can't wait 'till my HDX 18 comes! -
Well for those interested parties, it's time for more news from that rascal trying to run XP, and get HP to embrace!
Well, HP corporate called me today, and they expressed a desire to help me with my driver issue, since I assured them, 1- there would be no further updating for xp required as xp will not be getting updated.2- the only driver that i did not have 100% functioning, was the IDT high definition sound driver.
We had a non-technical discussion, Ben and I, about why HP should or shouldn't support XP. He was very respectful, not in the least arrogant or put off by my inquiry. And get this, although HP has a policy of not endorsing XP on the HDX18, he is having one of the head honchos in tech support call me tomorrow from 3-5 to see if there isn't a viable driver solution available.
I am blown away. This is not a big deal, not a life changing event. But with dell, I got a tech support rep reading out of a flow chart guide, from another country. From toshiba, you get the words, "no, can't do, running xp on this will void your warranty." So well this may not be a big deal, and well this tech support tomorrow may not yield a viable driver, this is the behavior of a company that wants to help, and wants me as their satisfied customer.
Until further notice and without question, I am loyal to HP.
I will of course keep those of you still in the XP consortium notified of any results. -

Just curious, but what would be "bad" temps for both the processor and the video card? Bad to the point I should consider buying a cooling pad? I really dont want to tote around something extra to make my computer run safe, but I dont want to wreck anything (else) either.

Yeah, same situation that upon boot up or resume from sleep, Cores 0/1 were already pretty warm according to HWMonitor, yet the air was, predictably, cool from the back.
So we have potentially:
1. A flaw in HWMonitor
2. A flaw in a sensor
3. Inadequate cooling on Chip 1 (Core's 0/1)
And yeah, the negative temps were obviously wrong, but I was noting the temp increase (even as they went from starting in the 70's cool to suddenly hitting 100 and going negative, then back, then negative....
With a temp supposedly that high, Chip 1 (0/1) didn't throttle back, since Prime 95 across all four cores complete at roughly the same time. All the cores hit a peak temp and when the fan kicked in high, they maxxed out in the 70's.
Do you have your notebook elevated at all? I use a wrist guard as an elevation tool that also gives the notebook more forward angle up for easier use.
GPU temps are great. Never went over 64 no matter what GPU stress test I threw at it. -
I will be getting my HDX18 on Tuesday... Ordered from dealer on Ebay and used the live cash back (lucky for me it was instant cash back). Anyway a few questions.
1. I will be moving to this monster from a DV9500 that I have very much enjoyed. I had just received the 2nd HDD caddy kit for it when I decided I could not refuse the price I got ($1100 after cash back). My question here is has anyone tried one from the 9000 series to see if it fits?
2. I did not get the tuner but am intrigued by it. Here is a link to the dv7 and if you drill down to replacing the tuner it is the same part# that is in parts surfer for the HDX18. Can someone with the tuner look and see if it is under a cover on the bottom like the DV7?
3. To Anyone that has moved from the DV9000 series with HDMI (and the 8400GS) did you have issues with your HDMI and HDMI switching receivers? If so do you have the same problem with the HDX? (Hopefully it is not a fault of my Onkyo)
Thanks. -
Temps tended to level out at:
ACPI - 68
Core 0 - 61
Core 1 - 61
GPU - 51 -
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the QX9300 cores should be about the same temp as the T9400 cores, correct? (same cores, just 2x the number?).
So a QX9300 should not be running that hot! I've been trying to find some other QX9300 core temp tests from other users that have Dell or Lenovo, or somthing, but some quick Google searches turn up nothing yet. I'll check the Dell Precision forums here (although, I assume at the price other vendors charge for their QX9300's, the number of owners will be few and far between). -

Just ran a few more temp programs and they report the same thing under load, so HWMonitor is solid.
The Heatsink/fan, on visual inspection, seems to be mounted fine...
Hmmmm.....
No throttle back with all cores producing the same time/results and CPU-Z staying locked at max speed (yeah, I sat there staring at it for 30 min, lol).
I would hate to think the Heatsink/Fan isn't up to snuff to handle cooling both cores or the Quads really run this hot.
I'm tempted to disassemble it and pop in one of the few Q9100's I have floating around.
It just doesn't make sense for one core to have such a massive discrepancy versus the other in regards to temps.... -
Also, it would also be good to make sure that the #of services are as close as possible, when doing this test.
I can do this test too if you'd like... -
I decided to do the test anyways and here's my temperature readings.
I had 89 services running with about 46% memory usage.
Ran the test for about 15 minutes.
-
I'm not so concerned with number of processes, in this case, because idle time is high according to task manager, and there is such a HUGE difference between the Quad and the Duo.
If you don't mind, could you run Prime95 for 5-10 minutes to see how hot your cores get when run at 100%???
Thanks. -
So for cores to get that hot, it's because they are generating that much heat. The hottest one might influence it's neighbors (not sure if it works that way), but even still, the highest common denominator is the overheating core. -
-
-
Also, this is done in my bedroom which is the hottest room out of the other rooms. I could always run this test in the living room which is much cooler.
My thermostat says 71 degrees. My room usually runs 2-3 degrees hotter than what the thermostat says...so around 74-75??? -
Hmm ok, thought maybe they might have a domino affect of causing more heat than usual.... -
Prime95 64-bit version -
I'm looking forward to running Prime95 when mine shows up next week.
Still haven't heard anything from Microsoft.
Should I be worried that my Cashback won't happen? The notebook has already shipped -
I would call and inquire, because of all the MS cashback I've done (alot), I've never had to wait more than a day for it to be logged in my cashback account.
You've got nothing to lose, but I bet you're just putting off calling them because you know what they'll say!
Good luck. -
Ok, I ran Prime95 for 10 minutes....
here are my results...Attached Files:

HWmonitor 64-bit
I posted the link for 64-bit version of Prime95 a few posts back. -
Ok I will do this tomorrow I am at work now and have the 2 job tonight so Tomorrow is the soonest. I will let you know what I get.

Hmm...so I was listening to song and it wasn't very loud and I noticed either crackling or vibrations coming from the speaker grill....
I played around with the equalizer and it didn't seem to really help all that much...
So for the hell of it, I decided to push down on the top right side of the speaker grill near the key numbered pads and the crackling/vibration went away!!!
The hard I pushed down, the better the song sounded!!
So for anyone that is experiencing this, try pushing down real hard and see if it goes away for you.... -

Live.com cashback SHOW ME THE MONEY! -
I have sent an email daily beginning Saturday the 29th. Just got off chat with HP who gave me a MS phone number; called MS three times and was told Live Cashback is handling everything via email only.
Wow.
I had wanted to try this HP laptop but it's not looking good. Big thumbs down to MS on this. -
FEDEX delivered my Hp w2558hc monitor today. Pretty nice monitor. 25.5 inches, speakers, USB ports, memory card slots, remote control. Just got it out of the box and set up. Installed the monitor software (everything looked great) then rebooted. Then everthing looked like crap, couldn't change the resolution (very low) or colors (very low). Updated my Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT graphics card driver and now everything is back to looking great again. Need to play some games to see how it looks.
So far, still have not heard from Microsoft about the cashback. I did, however, just receive an email asking me to take the survey.........oh, this is going to be fun.
I've had a few chat sessions with HP customer service just to let them know how I feel. I realize that Microsoft is the one that screwed up the 40% rebate, but HP is the one that is going to suffer due to the returns that may occur if the rebate falls through. I told CS to tell HP management that they need to apply some pressure on Microsoft to resolve this because HP is going to suffer financially if they don't. -
Congrats on the monitor!! Did it come with full specs? I assume it is 8-bit panel and not the 6-bit panel that we get on laptops?
