I'm very well aware that this is part of HP's HDX 16 model. I dont think however that HP will fix it while doing an exchange. Some of the posts here indicate HP will just keep sending the wrong design.

Hi Rageman, You welcome, its too bad the one I was sent was a returned HDX. I'm sure of it now as Ive watched some more unboxing videos and you can see a big diffrence in the notebook condition. There were some missing things that come on a new HDX that werent on mine like stickers on the palm rest, security tape/tag on the plastic bag that it comes in, mine didnt even have a bag around it, just the black cloth bag. I really hope they send me a new one this time because I really loved this HP notebook. :)

The Crucial memory is nice. It benchmarked slightly better than the OEM RAM I paid $540.00. Newegg is selling an 8GB Corsair kit for $369.99. That's the best deal I've seen for DDR2 PC2-6400 RAM.

I was hoping some of the HDX 18t notebook owners could take a look at the video review I uploaded to utube and tell me if you have/had any of the same issues I encountered? It would be very helpful to all the newbies. The link is posted below. Thanks all for your continued support here! :)

HP should soon be selling Sonata batteries in new computers. Not sure if that will include the HDX 18t.

These batteries are safer, recharge much faster, and last through a lot more recharge cycles (up to 1,000 rather than a few hundred).

    http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/128425

The batteries in the article are six-cell, not the eight-cell that would be for the HDX 18t.

    Question:

If I have a product, lets say a computer screen, and it starts on fire causing me injury who is to blame? The maker of the LED lights or the company that bought them?

Answer: When a Company sells a laptop, puts hardware and softwware purchased from other sources, slaps a name on it and something gos wrong, that company, without a dought is at fault.

    Hello,
i just ordered this laptop. I couldnt find what chipset it comes with, but i presume it comes with a pm45 reading a bit this thread.
My question is, does it have the pm45? if it does, cause pm45 supports ram till 1066mhz and also ddr3, does this notebook support ddr3? and does it support 1066 mhz ram frequency?
Was also wondering if the sleeve it comes with is durable, i just would like do use it when the laptop sits on my desk to avoid dust, is it enough? cause here in italy it seems impossible to find a sleeve big enough.
    Thank you.

Your comment got me thinking and several hours of reading this thread later I decided we really need to organize all this useful information so new owners can find what they need. I've started a site at http://www.HDX18.com for us to discuss issues, review accessories and share information.

I know the site is a bit rough, but I'm hoping together we can make it a useful resource. There's a forum on HDX18.com where you can post feedback and suggestions for the site. I'd love to hear your thoughts about how it can be better.

Thank you, And you would think said company would want to take care of you due to the circumstance, however I get the polar opposite, HP has not returned my calls and I have been without a computer for over 7 days since incident, it sits on the table not working, hand hurts, yet HP feels I should wait till they feel up to talking?.

I am pretty pissed about how HP is "taking care" of me right now about this.

Weren't you supposed to send it in to them so they could take a look at the damage? How are they supposed to determine a cause if you have the laptop still? And what is to keep them from writing you off as a fraud if you call with a complain but don't provide evidence to back up your claim?

They agreed to send me a replacement before accepting mine.
As far as fraud control, i dont know, good question, they wont talk to me until their insurance rep calls me. That was the last I heard from them.

My attorney stepped in and told them no on sending in the laptop till I get something setup in return.

I am just going to send it in tomorrow, I do not care what my attorney "thinks" I should do, by keeping it here until something is reached causes more problems, and like SeattleMike said, they probably think it is some kind of fraud.

So here is to sending in my brand new HDX18.....

Thanks man! I saw that you did that.

I really hope that the site gets some use. It'd be great to be able to jump to areas reguarding, processor, RAM, HDD, TV-Tuner, Optical drive, and etc. Sections for each would be great, with threads inside them.

    Something like a Processor section.

Threads stickey'd would be something like, the P8600, Q9000, etc.

Then user started threads under that.

Same for the rest of the options on the HDX.

    Just some thoughts.

i'm gonna order a hdx 18t sometime in april, but i needed yalls opinion on two things:

should i get the tv tuner?
    and
should i get the bluetooth option?

total, they only add up to about 70 extra bucks, which isn't a lot when you're talking about a 1300 dollar computer.

i just don't know how well the tv tuner is gonna work or if i'm ever gonna use the bluetooth (although having a mouse that doesn't take up a usb port would be nice, but then i gotta buy a frakking mouse)

I was hesitant to create too many forums until we get people using it regularly. I didn't want people to go to the Forum page and see a ton of empty forums, but if you have some stuff you want to post we can go ahead and make them.

    oldmacnut,
OK, theres a few things you should know here. First, if you are involved in a lawsuit with HP, this isnt really the place to deal with the lawsuit part of it. I think you really ought to listen to your laywer if he gives you legal advise. I think lawsiuts are stickly situations and theres no way to really tell which party is at fault until all the facts are presented. Second, it does sound like you might have a case against HP however, if you think their going to "bend" to whatever you ask of them you better think again. The reason I say this is because they are looking out for their own company as well, so until their analysts look at the HDX sent to you, any pictures you have and medical records, they are in the dark. I think you need to be just a tad bit flexible while your waiting to see what happnes. Third, I can feel for you, HP sent me a returned HDX and I'm still waiting for my credit so I can reorder, I HATE having to wait for my new one to arrive. Lastly, I've worked with HP for 15 years now, they have alyways dealt fairly with me and have acted as quickly as time allows. I can tell you, without a dought, if HP is really at fault for what happned to you, they will take ownership of the accident. Just because I'm mad about my recent experience with HP, doesnt mean I'm going to assume the rest of my business will be the same, I'm going to look at the history and reputation which by record is very good. If you dont believe that, just read threw some threads online about others dealings with them. They are very good with customer service and offering a compensation when they are in the wrong. So, I understand your anger about the laptop and being "hurt" by it. If you have other questions other than legal ones about your HDX, I'd be glad to help you just like all of the other people here. :)

The HP TV tuner isnt the highest quality. I think there are waay better 3rd party ones that you can get out there. Bluetooth is nice to have if you plan on using it (BT mouse, speakers, headsets, etc). If not, then you're buying it just to show off. But you right it isnt alot when you compare it to the rest of the laptop. Which is why I bought both, and use neither.

Anyway, question for you guys out there. Were there ever pictures posted of the backlit keyboard? If so, what page/post #?

    Thanks in advance.

lol. Well I hear ya on the mouse part!

For me, I am getting both.

I am getting the HDTV tuner because although I can get one pretty cheap online later, I would like to have it built-in. That way I don't use up a USB port or Expresscard slot for it. I will defiently use this beautiful screen to watch local HDTV, and I mind as well have it built-in. Plus right now, the Tuner is 50% off.

I will add, that my last HP laptop only had 3 USB ports, and all three where in constant use. I had a laptop cooling fan, my Sprint Mobile Broadband USB Device, and the other port was used to charge my Razor, plug in game controller, or USB mouse.

The Bluetooth is nice if you have a newer cell phone for example. I will be able to transfer and sync via the Bluetooth w/ ease. Also, when I do get a newer smart phone, I would kick myself if I didn't add the Bluetooth option (for $25).

    To each their own!!

I'm getting my "new one" in few weeks, hopefully sooner. HP added the backlit keyboard on the HDX I'm getting for free beacuse of the dammaged one I recieved. I'm going to do a second three part (10 min each) review of the HDX 18t. I'll do some shots in the dark of the backlit kb just as soon as I get it!

thanks for the advice. can you guys speak to the quality of broadcasts on the tv tuner? are you satisfied with its results? i live about 10 miles outside of DC, so it would expect to pick up pretty decent signals, but what do i know.

and yeah, i'm interested in the backlit keyboard too. cause i think the keys and their symbols could have better contrast: black on darkish silver isn't the most vibrant combination.

edit: also, should i bother upgrading the processor? the most intensive thing i'll probably do with it is some light video editing. is it worth it, and if so, what should i upgrade to?

I should add that, since you're so close to D.C., I think you will be really picking up a strong signal.

With HDTV OTA, it's pretty much you get it, or you don't. It's not like the older signals you picked up w/ rabbit ears, where you could watch something fuzzy.

10 miles out of a major metropolitan area, I'd say you'll get a lot of channels.

You could even go to tvguide.com or similar sites to see what HD channels are in your area. For sure you will have the usual suspects, NBC, CBS, ABC, all giving free HDTV to you.

    Hope that helps.

I have kinda a weird question for everyone. When you ordred your HDX 18t, did it come in a brown HP box, or a color printed HP box with a handle? I've seen two (2) diffrent unboxing videos that show these diffrent boxes.

    Hello

I have a problem with my C drive and gonna send it to HP for the replacement, I just wonna know can I work with my D drive at the meantime where I actually backed up my content. I mean are they physically separated in my laptop or it's just virtual hard drive?

my hard drive is a 500GB SATA Dual Hard Drive(250GB*2)

    Thanks in advance

Well, you honestly expect them to talk to YOU now that you have a attorney in the mix ? Not a chance, you can now expect all communication to go through your attorney.

After reading this thread about Oldmacnut's dilemma, I have to somewhat agree with peter0328. I don't think it is HP's fault. Windows XP and/or Vista are notorious for sleep problems (not going to sleep or staying asleep).

It is unfortunate that oldmacnut had that happen, but I wouldn't blame HP. Is it possible that the lid (which does not lock) partially came open in the bag and triggered an awake? Are you sure the HDX18t was fully asleep when it was stuck in the bag? Would Hibernate be a better option, since the computer is completely turned off in that mode?

One thing, though, is that I don't think it is possible for the temperature in the bag to exceed the temperature of the air coming out of the HDX18t! If the computer's max temp is 200, the bag (if it insulated 100%) would be 200 degrees. When I turn on my oven in my kitchen and set it to 200, and close the door, the temperature inside isn't 300, it's 200. Heat doesn't "build up" additively.

I got it in a brown box. The laptop itself was in a sleeve inside the box, no plastic covering around it.
