    Hello

My names matt, im brand new here so excuse me if this has been brought up before. I own a HDX like the one listed in the title and I bought it back in october of 2008 and carried a 2 yr ADP through HP on it. Well the time expired before i could get it into HP for a repair and now im stuck doing this on my own, I repair computers for a living and thats no problem at all, I just dont want to buy stuff I dont need to fix this.

I have windows 7 ultimate x64 on the laptop with all the HP files from the website for it.

MY CPU FAN stays at a slow speed alot of the time and the laptop will actually hibernate when it gets too hot and shut off, and when i try to turn it back on it wont turn on for about a minute till it gets cooler, it just blips on and off real fast.

is there something loose or a sensor that is damaged making my fan stay slow? every once in a while the fan will rev up to the medium speed and will go back to low after the cores come down under 60C, but the cores go up to 70C and the fans still on low, its really unpredictable.

Do i need a new fan or can i do something to this fan? theres no dust in there because i checked that first.

    2nd issue

my keyboard f4, and various number pad keys dont work at all, do i need to replace the keyboard or is that a loose connection/dirt?

if you are wondering the laptops plugged in all the time, and the power settings on high preformance. im not sure how many fans are in the unit?

    Thanks
    Matt

I realize everyone has an ENVY now but this is the only forum i could find with a HDX section, the other "HDX FORUM" has post that are over a month old without an answer. I know I can't be the only one with this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    1) Might need a new fan as apparently it is not triggering itself to go high. Broken fan connection/sensor.

    2) Might need to clean or re-seat the keyboard connector. If that doesn't work, new keyboard.

You could always do a total dismantle and repaste the CPU/GPU and see if that helps temperatures. The fan has 5 Speeds that I know of from personal experience (Off, Quiet Low (Under 60c), Low (61-85c), Medium (probably for anything between 85 and 95c) and Jet Engine (I've only gotten it to do that while doing a BIOS update :p).

The keyboard issue could also be due to static electricity, but it's not that likely. You could try taking the battery out, unplugging the AC adapter and holding the power button down for 15-30 seconds, and then try again.

ive taken it apart before but havent reseated it, i dunno if that would help though, seems the sensor is reading the right temps but its not kicking the fan up... if i do the bios update it will ramp up but thats it.
