Guys,
Just got my HP DV2700t. Looks good bad performance, I just wasted 4 DVD-DL discs to create recovery discs and still couldnt create it kept getting an error. Spoke to HP tech another jackass couldnt help either and directed me to the website on how to create the disc which I already knew then said that I needed to update my bios which I did and still having problems. Also I am not sure why its so slow i mean its 2.4 with 3gb it should be blazing fast it task windows keep hanging up very upset with this product will have to return it and get a dell.
Lets what happens when I call HP tomorrow.

Ask them to replace the DVD drive...that's probably a bad part. The DVDs you are using need to be good as well, so maybe consider buying a different name brand if you don't have name brand DVDs already.
You also should use DVD+R (SL or DL), nothing else. -

I bought a Sony DVD-DL a pack of 4 for $20 gone down the drain. My only issue is if I am having problems with a PC that is 3 days old what can I expect it from it in the future.

it could be that your drive is in pio mode. if you don't know how to check, search the forums for it as i can't remember off the top of my head. also, are you using vista?
-
Man with a Vision Notebook Enthusiast
Yes i am using Vista which I am starting to hate.
-
try a different brand dvd. it doesn't necessarily have to be name brand, but usually name brands are more reliable. i personally like maxell. i haven't had a maxell denied yet. sony and memorex weren't liked in my hp either.

You cant use DVD-R's to burn the recovery discs for some reason. It happened to me before, use +R's .
Its slow because of all the bloatware HP put in, it really makes it a crappy experience with Vista. Doing a clean install will improve it much better -
I agree with Greg I was thinking both myself. I don't have Vista but it's "improvements" to figure your habits out annoy many users. Take a look in the Widows and Software section for the sticky on tips and tweaks or something like that. Also going thru processes running and see if a lot of junk going. How many? Finally SiSoft is a free app that has benchmarks and could be useful in trying to find if certain components like CPU, RAM and HDD are functioning in specs. W/Prime (free) not bad to run to see if CPU is functioning fine. There is an entire thread where people have posted their times so you should be able to compare yours. HDTach (I prefer) or HDTune are both free.
What hard drive? Running Turbo boost?
You have at least two issues that are not related. DVD and sluggish system.
Back on DVD and nothing you have said leads me to this but because it is free and easy. I always uninstall drivers then reinstall before accepting yes it is a hardware failure.
Good luck, I would give a little more time before giving up but if you decide to return certainly your choice. -

I dont see a pio mode

Alright let me give this sucker another chance before i return it.

A lot of your problems have to do with Vista, not the laptop itself. I was having a ton of issues with my dv9700t running Vista OEM. Once I installed XP Pro, everything started running much more smoothly

How much did you pay for it.

OMG!!
I'm dumb or what!?
I burned the recovery disks in DVD-R! and I did a Clean Install of Windows Vista.
So, basically... are my recovery DVD's useless? -
yeah pretty much useless if you already have a Vista install disc
Unless you wanna restore a bloated version of vista -

Yes, I have a recovery disk of Vista, thank God for that, in the time I bought the laptop Compaq HP included that anytime time upgrade DVD, so I did a clean install with it Saturday.
I don't know if major brands keep doing that with low cost consumer notebooks -
Yeah, you made the right decision , there is no better company than Dell.
I made the same switch. -

yeah right. for you. but i wont trade the kickass look on the 2700t for a dell. lol. i had the dv2799special edition, clean vista install and doin well with no problems guranDAMNteed. -
Maybe this will help? I saw it on another forum where someone was having problems creating recovery disks:

yeah his right. HP doesnt offer the high-resolution grainy screens, only dell does that lol
we get the glossy screens but for a 14.1 inch 1280x800 is the perfect resolution. no need to go higher than this -

Thanks Guys. But I am sending it back to HP what pisses me off is that if a system that doesnt work in first 7 days and have to call tech support to me this shows bad quality control and down the road it will make it worse as the months go by.
I have a dell desktop for almost 3 years and the only issue I had with them was the software issue no hardware issues. I had a Toshiba laptop 3 years that I bought open box from CC no issues the first year but the system started to heatup and issues with disk drive.
So I will be going back to Dell and get a M1530, though I saw a couple of reviews where someone mentioned issues with the monitor and hdd. Which I did bring it up to sales rep at Dell and he assured me that Dell has the quietest HDD and no issues with the laptop monitor and I have it in writing.
Lets see if Dell can keep upto its name. -
My 2ct to make a recovery is to back up your partition to an external drive with a software like "paragon" it take only 15 mn max to back up and 15 mn to recover when you need it.
why wasting 2 1/2 hour to make the recovery disk and another 2 hours to recover... -

I agree. Why cant HP provide a recovery cd with the system I mean dell does it.
-
HP offers recovery DVD as an option for $19 on CTO models. Recovery DVD's may be ordered from HP support website for $16. I ordered 64 bit recovery DVD for my dv2800 which shipped with Home Premium 32 bit so let's see what arrives in the mail.

I decided to give HP another try so they will be sending me a brand new unit and a $90 credit for my troubles. Lets see what happens.
-
Unfortunately, the new unit will likely be just as lethargic in performance out of the box. The bloated HP Windows install really slows everything down, which is why I did a clean install from day one.

I agree I will need to remove all the crap and see how good it is.
