I was curious about the durability of the HP imprint finish. I did a search and didn't run across anything.

Anyway, I recently ordered an HP HDX16t (which shipped today!). This is my first HP computer. I'm concerned with the high gloss case scratching over time. The last laptop I had was an ASUS G1S which was also glossy. Even with my constant attention, and careful placement into a neoprene sleeve every time it was not in use, still became scratched and looked very dull in the 2 years of it's service.

I was considering ordered an Invisible Shield for it from Zagg. I'm very familiar with the product (have one on my phone) and consider it a good idea.

Any opinions? Is the HP finish more durable than ASUS?

My DV2500 has been all over the world with me (literally) and aside from a few scratches that you have to strain to see (my fault), it's flawless. HP has a thumbs-up from me for their finishes...

but you might want to get something for the infinity display like screen protector because of the dust that goes into the screen and blemishes from the key board

I was worried too that the high gloss finish would mean tons of scratching, despite what HP marketed at the time. Right now, my HP dv6000t (with the amazing Imprint finish) is 2.5 years old and has still yet to see a scratch. The finish is really quite durable, though it is quite the fingerprint magnet ... at first it was distracting, but now there are so many fingerprints that it doesn't bother me anymore. The keyboard and the screen (it's a matte, which they regrettably don't sell anymore) do pick up dust, but that is expected.

All in all, HP did a fantastic job with the Imprint finish. It's pretty high quality stuff ... better than your typical plastic. I have no regrets ordering the laptop with this finish.

Well that is good to know, that the finish isn't easily scratched. I was going to order the clear protectors for the case but think I will save my $40.

My G1S had the keyboard rub the screen, which is the reason I was thinking about getting a screen protector as well. As far as screen protectors, I have no idea who sells a quality one. I was just considering putting a microfiber cloth between it when it's closed up.

The finish on my dv5z has peeled off in a couple of places. I ignored it the first time and it grew to an oblong spot about an inch long and half inch wide, very noticeable. I finally put a piece of clear tape over it to stop it from peeling further. A second spot appeared in a different place last week and I taped it up right away. Even then, from when I first noticed it as a pinprick, it's now about 2 mm in diameter. I'm not impressed.
