I know some of you people want to take apart your infiniy display to remove the dust. Let me tell you up front from experience its not worth it. today i tried to upgrade my dv7's screen to a 1680x1050 one. Well lets just say my dv7 is now in a bunch of peices in a droor as i plan to never look at it again for a long time. This display makes no sense it is terrible and poorly designed and near impossible to take apart. Not only that but it gets dust inside and i just dont like it. If anyone has an extra display assembly lying around PM me because i need one now.

Why the heck would anyone take apart his screen?

    Congratulations for voiding your warranty.

Next time, take it to an HP authorized service centre maybe they can take it apart better than you did and stop blaming HP for poor design just coz you didn't know how to take apart your screen...

Which part of the screen are you having trouble with?

Have you checked the HP website if they have released the dv5 service manual and video guide?

No dude sorry sir you are an idiot. First of all i said in my first post why itook it apart. I did it to upgrade the screen to a higher resolution one i got it for free. And second it is a poor design there is glue onthe LCD it self and the front infinity panel. This glue is very sticky so opon trying to remove it the front peice snapped off and broke. On top of this the dust in my screen was in reality gunk from this glue that had flaked off. And i did know how to take it apart i read the maintence and service guide for my laptop. So enough out of you. Also this dosent void the warrenty i just need to replace the Assembly and they dont even know the diffrence. Yes i know this works because i have messed with my computers before and sent them in they dont know a thing.

i dont take things apart very often, but how did you even manage to get that out of there to begin with?
also too, the infinity displays look amazing, and i have no idea how dust could even have gotten in there to begin with.

I will take a picture of what is left of my display. I know it was the glue because it was very sticky and it appeared there 3 days after i got the laptop right in the middle of the panel.

i can't believe what im reading.... dude.. some things are better kept to yourself, to avoid embarrassment. so... since it didn't come off the way you expected, does that really mean HP designed it badly, or you don't know what you're doing? i mean.. it could be the other way.... hahahaha poor Charlie Brown.

Well mainly i was trying to warn everone who wants to take this display apart that its not worth the time. And yes i did know how to take it apart i work on laptops all the time i know what im doing for the most part but it was my first time doing one of these infinity screens so i read the guide and still managed to fail. I blame bad design bceause i have never had a problem with screen assemblys before.

If the people at Hp can take em off without breaking the glass, you should be able to as well.

    Hi

I have had my dv7 with infinity display for about 5 weeks. Purchased new.

It has dust behind the screen HP said it is not a warranty issue. I will not be taking no for an answer.

The laptop is new and in an environment that has little dust. If dust can get in it is a design fault, or a build quality issue.

I am very dissapointed at this point with HP service.

As well at the bottom left and right of the screen you can see scratch marks caused by the screen coming into contact with the speker grill on the keyboard pannel.

HP have said that they will warrant this, if the laptop has not been dropped.

It seems that the helpdesk people follow what are known as "advisaries" with regard to warranty isues. As they dont have one for the dust behind the Infinty screen they dont warrant it, or so they say.

If you have a dust issue you need to log a fault because it seems that warranty response depends on fault volume.

So if you have dust behind the screen log a fault and ask this issue to escalated.

I will be writing to HP and making as much noise as I can. If i knew that HP didnt care about dust getting behind the screen I would not have spent $2600

    Cheers

    Ric

I dont really care about the dust only the little black dots from the glue they used because i can see that while the screen is on. You can make noise but they will just put in ear plugs because its dust you cant stop it.

Man that just sucks. Anytime you work on a laptop you must have extreme patience. You get mad and try and force something and you will break something. Slow down next time, no hurry. If something is not working or coming apart as you think it should go read the manual again. I have over 20 years experience with computers and even I still stumble every now and again but if I step back and relook at the problem I can solve it without smashing the hell out of it (and while gratifying it usually costs me more than just being patient and looking for the proper solution in the first place).

    Good Luck,

    /Reby

If it was glued, it wasn't meant to be taken apart. What happened to common sense?
