Well, my Dv2418 has struck again......my webcam now disapeared.... I tried to do a system restore but for some reason, non are avaiable. Heres the catch tho.

On my vista partition the webcam cannot be found and there is no trace of it.

Sometimes Device Manager doesn't show the hardware unless the drivers are installed. If you have the drivers for the webcam, just install them in vista.

My buddy's dv9000 had the same thing happen, I believe this past Tuesday. There was a Windows Update file that identified his webcam as Sonitrix or something (didn't write it down), and offered a driver update for it.

Once Windows Update finished (which he said took forever), he got a blue-screen, then restarted fine. But now his cam is gone- not showing at all in Device Manager, and attempting to install both the HP driver AND the Acer driver have done nothing to rectify this.

Anyone else get a strange driver offering from Windows Update? Any ideas on how I can get the thing to show back up in DM? (NO imaging devices are appearing there now).

YES!!!!! Now i remember that stupid sonix driver being there, I was too lazy to uncheck it and now it screwed me over!!!! I didnt get a blue screen but i did loose the webcam. Let me know if your buddy figures it out. I am stumped, for now I will just be using windows 7 (its better anyway, but a $200 launch price is scaring me...)
