Is there any info out on up-coming HP models that will use the Ivy Bridge platform? And, Specifically the newer 28/22nm Mobile GPUs from AMD and nvidia?

I know March through May is when most companies will be putting out their new models. But i haven't seen anything from HP.

i dont think hp will came out with 28nm GPU because the last 7000 GPU AMD serie was a rebranded from previous so, its only 40nm i think, i have one HP dv6 6c00 series, with 7690m xt wich is 40nm..

There is no doubt the 76XX and lower series will be on the 40nm, but from what i understand, the 77xx and higher will be on the new 28nm Process.

I am on the fence about buying an Elitebook now, or waiting to see what's coming in the spring. Hopefully we'll hear something soon!

elitebooks are real top quality, not comparable to consumer products, although not top performance unfortunately, except for the 87#0w, if equipped with the top hardware available, but there also not gaming, but professional gpus (which isnt a problem if one modifies the drivers accordingly if gaming is in interest).

unfortunately elitebooks dont get refreshed resp. are subjects to hardware upgrades that quickly as the envy line does, as soon as some new hardware gets released.

i just bought a new dv6tqe with the 2gb 7690m xt and it's supposed to arrive on the 21st of this month, i was wondering if anyone has heard anything new concerning hp's graphics cards. so if i have to, i can just send my laptop back and get a new dv6tqe with the latest graphics card.

take a look into the hdx/envy forum, theres a lot of discussion on the new graphics cards coming soon.
if you want/need the newest technology and best gpu/cpu power, id recommend you to return it and wait for new hp notebooks that should come quite soon with intels ivy bridge cpus, new chipsets, and new amd radeons (7700, 7800). 7690m (xt) is just a rebranded 6750m (6770m).

It seems that EliteBook refresh follows introduction of new CPUs by several months. For example HP has just introduced the EliteBook 8560W B2A79UT SmartBuy featuring the I7-2760QM processor. But this processor has been introduced by Intel last October. I suspect that if Ivy Bridge processors are introduced in April, we may not see corresponding EliteBooks until July 2012. Of course, this is all wild speculation on my part.

My hope is also that the EliteBook Workstation refresh will include SmartBuy models sporting SSD under $2K.

I figure that HP will have all new Products within 8-16 weeks, across the board.

Why would HP do an Elitebook smartbuy refresh now if there's new models coming that soon after?

Sometimes they do a minor refresh just prior to a major launch to test new engineering or features for the next generation product. They may also launch a minor refresh to clear out stock of existing bin parts.

You are not filling me with confidence that buying an Elitebook right now is as great of an idea as I had hoped.

If you have to have one.. Buy one. If it meets your needs and you like it.. Go for it.

However, if you can afford to wait 8-12 Weeks, Ivy Bridge models will give you more for your money. Perhaps a 20% spec bump and a little better battery life.

If you are looking for a great deal on pre-Ivy Bridge laptops, and appreciate teh value of business class notebooks, I suggest you check out the Dell Business Outlet. Yesterday they had coupons for Refurbished Precisions, which come with a 3yr NBD on-site warranty. The deals are great even if you miss out on the coupon. HP is competitive when the models are brand new (call for 28% off CTO) but Dell and Lenovo kick them to the curb when it comes to late model year sales.

The DV6T-7000 series are live now with the Ivy Bridge CPUs and Nvidia Kepler GPUs. They are offering the 650m as an upgrade in 1GB and 2GB versions.

I just read that this same configuration will be available on their budget line as well.
