Can anyone tell me a whole bunch of infromation about the L2000 gaming perfromance? I want to know if it can run the latest games(Battlefield2 and GTA Saint Andreas)? If it doesn't run smoothly can u do anything to make it run smoother like adjusting the resolution, pixel, or the game's detail? :hp: I am going to buy L2000 very soon at Sam's Club which sold it for 999$.

Well, I make suggestions to people all the time about computer buying.

The Radeon Xpress 200M is an integrated graphics chip based on a RADEON X300 chip. It is PCI-Express. It performs about at the level of a Radeon X300SE 128MB, so it is at the low end. So, for gaming, here are the benchmarks...see if they are satisfactory.

Far Cry: Pier, at 1024x768 resolution, Max Settings, 24Frames per second
    Halo: 1024x768, 20 FPS
    Doom3: 1024x768, 10 FPS

Well, these are on Max settings, so you may get better results if you put them lower...but the card will still struggle.

This is really not a good system for gaming, and I would have to strongly advise against it. I suggest going for an HP zd8000 17" with a 256MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X600, it will be much better. Alas, it is 10 pounds.

I hope I have helped you.

GTA San Andreas I cant get working. It just crashes wheni turn it on. Ive reinstalled it about 15 times and nothing.

Sims 2 ran extremely sluggish. I uninstalld that.

Half Life 2 was okay at absolute lowest settings. Im keeping that on just to have a game when i want one. But i dont expect much.

So bottom line is that gaming + L2000 is a no go. And as this is my first laptop with integrated video so im hating that my 512mb ram is cut down to 388mb due to the 128mb shared video ram. I reduced it to 64mb in the bios to cut down on ram waste since it cant play games anyway.

Gateway just came out with an update of their Athlon 64 notebook. A64 3700+, Radeon X600 128MB dedicated, 15.4" widescreen. It's heavier than the L2000 of course but pretty much anything with a decent GPU will be. Best Buy has them in stock. Check the Gateway forum here and see if anyone's played with one yet. C'mon HP, put a decent GPU in an AMD notebook!

I suggest you look at the Gateway 7510gx $1399 (15.4" A64 3700+ ATI X600 256MB 1GB RAM 100GB HD DVDRWDL) or Acer Travel Mate 4402wlmi $1,233 (15.4" Turion 64 ML 1.6GHz ATI X700 64MB 1GB RAM 100GB HD DVDRWDL) for budget gaming. They will have much better gaming performance compared to a HP L2000 has better features yet are not much higher in price. Worth it if you want to do gaming.

If you want more portabillity and even more speed than those two you always have the Ferrari 4000 but it will cost you $2000+

For $1399 for the 7510GX, you can't go wrong. I am thinking about upgrading myself, because it has a much better video card than what I have (64MB GeForce4). For $1399, it has an AMD64 3700+, 100GB HDD, 1GB RAM, Wireless, 128MB X600, dual layer DVD Burner, a great deal.

The Acer Travelmate, as listed above by Rami, is also a good deal, but the deciding factor looks like the video card. You have to decide between the 64MB X700 and the 128MB X600. The X700 is faster, but has half the memory. I think the X600 128MB is a better choice. While it is not as fast as the X700, it has twice the memory, and that can make all the difference. Most games these days require a 64MB video card, and in 6 months or so we could see a 128MB card required, and that means you cant play it on the 64MB X700. So, I say go with the gateway.

Yea, I dont think the Ferrari is worth $2100 either when you can get the Gateway.

Personaly between those two notebooks I would go with the Acer TravelMate 4402wlmi, you just can't beat the speed of the ATI X700. 64MB is enough in most cases as you don't play in high res. or high detail on a portable notebook anyway. The GateWay looks damn nice though and have a more powerfull CPU and more system memory. Tough call. Both have tremendous value, so ain't going wrong with either one. The 4402wlmi come with only 512MB ram though.

BTW the Acer TravelMate 4400 is sold with Windows XP 64-bit in the UK so it's certified and ready for Windows XP 64 bit, I bet the drivers are there for the GateWay too though.

I don't think I could ever make up my mind if deciding between those two!!!

I know the ATI 200m wont play games like Halflife well but is it good enough for games like age of empires or Dungeon Lords?

I like to game but Im not a first person shooter type.

I really like the L2000 and as long as it will play less graphics intensive games well them Im a happy camper.
