The only news about HP notebooks with LED screens was that they were supposed to be released in Q3 2007. However, I can't seem to find any information saying that HP is now using LED screens on any of there notebooks.

On their new dv9700 there only seem to be 3 possible choices all of which, AFAIK, are LCD screens: the ultra brightview being a dual lamp screen.
    17.0" WXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1440 x 900)
    17.0" WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1680 x 1050)
    17.0" WXGA+ High-Definition Ultra HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1440 x 900)

Can anyone shed some light on this?

HP ultraportables like the 2510p and 2710p uses LED backlit screens. The next generation line up will begin using these screens when they become mainstream.

Mainstream; to Apple they're already mainstream, those are some damn bright screens. (The point being that "mainstream" is subjective and that I'm surprised that HP is, IMHO, so slow to get their players on the field.)

I see now that they're calling their LED screens Illumi-Lite.

    Thanks for the reply.
