My friend's laptop bought from PCWorld is now showing an error and stating that the hard drive needs replacing. The computer is over 1.5 years old, and therefore normally out of warranty.

    1) My first question is, is there normally a separate warranty for parts like hard drives? The hard drive in the laptop is a 250gig Western Digital Scorpio Blue, and from many retailers online it's sold with a 5-year warranty.

    2) Is the Western Digital Scorpio Black a hardier hdd than the black? Or can someone recommend a drive that can take some punishment.?

The reason i ask the second statement is that the user admits to torrenting using the internal HDD (which i strongly advised them will wreck the drive), and they insist that the new drive be able to take similar punishment because they have no plans to stop...

Any ideas welcome lol - i don't torrent but i have seen an active machine and i saw what it does to the drive. Other than SSD, what drive can better bear the likely torture?
