hey! thanks for the great deal. I've been looking at this laptop for quite some time and finally there's such a good discount. Actually i'm from singapore and I thought of asking someone whom I know of living in Australia to buy it for me on my behalf.
I guess you must be an Australian Hp Staff right?
Cause sadly when I contacted(email) them(pre sales enquiry), the lady told me it's only for HP Aus staff.
Do you know of any other way that i could still buy the laptop cuz it's really a good buy if you ask me. Another thing i'm worried about would be the warrenty. Would I be able to purchase a warrenty that covers me over here in Singapore?
If i can't get the laptop, i guess ill just have to wait until i come across another great deal or maybe wait for santa rosa...i hope to hear from ya soon! =D -
j.t.y.r.
With alot companies, especially on "consumer" grade items the warranty only applies in country of purchase.
Google something called "Grey Market Goods"...
In a nutshell, even if a company is global, they have differant markets, and differant vendors within those markets.
Those vendors get highly upset when someone say buys an item from another market (Which means they lost the profit on such transaction)... and get more bent out of shape when someone demands service on an item they did not profit from the sale of. (Can you blame them?)
The parent company, while it may be global tries to "protect" those vendors by either voiding a warranty completely, or saying the unit must be returned to the country of purchase for service.
Another aspect is even though the models are pretty much the same, from one country to another the service centers may not have parts for a model bought elsewhere, nor have a listing in there database for a model bought outside the home market to even see if the parts are the same, and their techs are not certified to make repairs on anything but home model units. The exception to that being maybe those business class units that businessmen expect to get quick service on while not in there home country.
PS: On a BUSNIESS CLASS model the warranty may be more of a international warranty as companies expect business class owners to travel to country to country, needing service when they are not in their home country.
I'd suggest you type in the model # of the unit your trying to purchase and read the fine print very carefully, plus contact HP, and get something in writing from them on how they handle such matters...
I've never checked into it... but have had to deal with Grey Market goods before...
Hope the above has helped.
