Just bought mp HP DV7000 two weeks ago...everythings great except 2 weeks later I see the dv 6700's are out 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS and 200G HD's for just about the same price I paid (pending the $500 coupon if It is still live) for a 128MB card and 160 Gig HD...

does anyone know if its possible to return and repurchase without any hassle?

    Thanks

    Will

I did exactly what you are questioning. HP had fedex pick-up my dv6500t. I then ordered the new 6700t release, using the "nb1399" coupon, for a $500 discount. I got the new machine with double the hd and the 256 gpu for about $20 less than the first order. I had to speak with 3 different people in order to use the coupon, as they said it had met its quota.

dpmb -- how quickly did you go from returning the laptop to buying another one and how recently did you get someone to finally accept the coupon? I ask for selfish reasons -- in the same boat that you were. :)

Thanks Dpmb...this is exactly my situation...only the NB1399 coupon is not active, at least with the one rep I spoke with..will try again.
Yes my 160GB is not big enough considering vista takes up about 20Gig, and yes I've been wanting the 256 gpu which was non existent 2 weeks ago..

The existing rep was offering me $200 off, but that still was more than the $950 that I spent with my exisiting config (using the $300 coupon at the time)

I will wait an lurk as long as I can in my return period to get the $500 off.

two questions: when did you finally place your new order? and did you have the original packing when you sent back your existing unit (do they give you any crap if they don't)

ok thats 3 questions but its the holidays..

Rtdogs: lets stay on this and share info so we can get the same deal..

Absolutely will do Will. I've been trying this coupon code several times a day out of obsession to see if it's active. :)

I had my notebook about 2 weeks. I did the return on on 12/23.
Fist I did the return. Then, I placed an order with a customer service rep, as sales said the quota was met. I received a $200 discount and an additional $300 credit when the unit ships. I did make it clear that I returned my purchase and wanted to stay with HP, but would walk away and buy a Dell, if $500 discount wasn't given. The gamble worked, otherwise I would have been buying a Vostro 1500, and spending an additional $300 - $500. Good luck.

Thanks for the info dpmb. Dell's my second choice and a couple of hours ago I priced out a laptop from them just to see the price comparison again. Glad it worked out well for you and I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope to get something done over here too.

From what I been told by 4 different customer service agents. The coupon has not been used since Christmas.

So on Christmas, people were using it for the whole day.

I tried it Christmas Eve night around 10 p.m. Central and it was working. Tried it again Christmas morning around 10 a.m. and kaput. It was "invalid."

    Hello again,

Just wanted to give you an update. I ended up trying to burn a 2 gig data DVD yesterday and it it took 5 hours. That along with the extra $ I paid for the DV9500T just left a sour taste in my mouth so I called the return and exchange dept.

I explained about the DV9700T coming out and my troubles with the DVD drive. I told them I wanted my money back or I'd be willing to re-purchase the newer model as long as I could use my coupon code. If no coupon code allowed, then I told them I could get a better graphics card and deal at Dell.

The first guy tells me I have to go through technical support and he doesn't think I can use the coupon code. I said I just wanted my money back then but he tells me I have to go through tech support first. So I reluctantly go off to tech support to get a service ticket #.

Spend another 35 minutes on the phone with tech support just to get a service ticket #. I explained that I wasn't about to start down the road of repairs when I've only had the computer 1 week and I didn't even open it until Christmas night (less than 48 hours open and I'm having DVD trouble).

He said that I really didn't need tech support (I know!) and then said I needed to file a complaint. I don't know why that was the case because I really wasn't complaining, just wanting to go ahead and take them up on the 'no questions asked' return policy.

Anyway, he says a case manager will call me back and that I need to call the returns department back in 10 minutes. So I do call the returns dept back.

I brought him up to date and he says right away, "I can take care of that for you." He wasn't the case manager so I'm not sure why I needed to be assigned a case manager.

The guy refunds my money right away, schedules the FedEx pickup and then reconfigures a better system for me, uses my discounts and gives me the same price as I paid for the DV9500T. Like dpmb, I'll be getting part of that money back when the unit ships.

Now, that deal isn't as sweet as the $500 off the new config since the price starts out lower than where I was at on the 9500T -- I paid for things like a 2 GB RAM upgrade that is standard now -- but I did end up getting $510 off and he's working on getting my additional $60 for going through fatwallet.com that would get it closer to what it would've been if I could've used code NB1399.

So...not a Cinderella story and I wasn't as lucky as dpmb but I did get some nice upgrades that were thrown in to make me a happy customer. We'll see if I'm happy when it arrives in January. On that note, I'll get another 21 days to return or exchange if something's wrong with this one too. Fingers crossed. This is exhausting!

Awesome news. Did you get an order #? I'm getting my system, which I bought 2 months ago replaced since they didn't repair it after sending it in twice. Instead, it was damaged even more. So I'm getting a dv6700t replacement with nice upgrades. My case manager is waiting on approval before I get an order #. Hopefully by Monday the 31st. Keep me posted on your status will ya. I'm just as tired as you with all this case manager/technical support loop.

OMG! This was the case with my last laptop! The audio started crapping out so I sent it in. One week later, the DVD drive went out so I sent it in (and had to wonder if the repair dept. knocked something loose when the audio board was fixed since the drive had been working fine). The laptop then returns to me with the biggest, deepest scratches on the top of the laptop. It looked like it had been keyed twice! I was heartbroken.

I called them back, they put a case manager on it and they sent me another laptop immediately (not customized but better than the CTO I had bought a few months prior). If they hadn't taken care of me then I wouldn't have gone back to them this time.

However, I have to admit, I'm pretty worried about the DVD drive on this new one being messed up! I hope I'm not an HP jinx! I don't want to go down that road again. I wasn't trying to get something for free. I just want the system I paid for to work.

To answer your question, yes I got an order #. Maybe because I ordered it and had to give my credit card # again on the new order? The way they did it is they refunded my $ on the one that's being sent back Monday and then they started the second laptop over as a new order, applying my discounts again so I wouldn't have to wait for the old unit to arrive back to them before having the new order put in as an "exchange." Hope that makes sense. It's a bit of a goofy process.

I don't really know why they assigned me a case manager because after I called the returns dept. back like they said, the guy who answered took care of me right then. So I don't know if a case manager is going to call me or not (no point now really) but I definitely feel your pain on having to send it back for all those repairs.

Take it from someone who's been there, though, if they say they're going to send you a replacement, you're good to go. The replacement they sent me 3 years ago is perfectly fine even today. I just got all hot and bothered when they had the big coupon come out -- I'm such a computer junkie!

Let us know what your new specs are and what your old specs were. I hope you'll be very pleased!

rtrdogs, just talked with the case manager yesterday, actually. We discussed my replacement notebook and he gave me some super sweet upgrades. Hopefully it comes soon though. I start school on Jan. 8. Doubt it'll get here in that time. Just put the order yesterday, Friday.

Here are my old notebooks specs:
    -15.4" Special Edition Notebook [White]
    -AMD Turion X2 TL-50 (1.6Ghz)
    -1GB DDR2 RAM (Upgraded to 2GB)
    -Nvidia go6150 IGP
    -120gb 5400RPM HD
    -8x DVD+/-RW
    -Webcam + Microphone

    My new notebook is a dv6700t (Intel-Based)
    -15.4" Black Notebook
    -Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz T7500
    -2gb DDR2 RAM
    -Nvidia 8400m GS 256mb
    -250gb 5400rpm HD
    -HD-DVD ROM + 8x DVD+/-W
-Webcam + Microphone + Fingerprint Reader
    -Bluetooth

Got a great deal on this. Hopefully they build and ship quickly. My case manager put me on the priority list. But the system has not been approved yet. Hopefully on Monday, the 31st, it will be approved and start the building process. I'll let you know when I get it or at least get an order #. Geez, I've had headaches all month, until he let me choose some of the specs on my new system. Guess he felt bad or something haha.

That's a sweet deal you got there! Looks like our only differences are the DV9700T for me, 3 GB RAM and a 512 MB 8600M. The DV9500T I had for a week that's going back tomorrow is really nice -- except for the non-working drive! I like how cool and quiet it runs so I'll bet you love your new system!

Mine has a "will be built by" date of Jan. 9. With my last order it shipped 2 days early so I hope yours arrives before or shortly after school starts for you.

GL and keep us posted. I'll do the same.

vince22sh, I think they are pretty similar, just some minor upgrades. I'm sure you'll be happy with your dv9500t. Otherwise, you could always return once you get it and get the dv9700t series. When do you get your notebook?

    Is return procedure that simple?

    From HP.com

To process a return or exchange

We can only accept returns on orders placed with the HP Home & Home Office Store by phone or online. We can't accept returns or exchanges for items from the Parts Store, Small & Medium Business Store, or repairs.

To return or exchange an item, you must first get a return material authorization number (RMA) by calling us at (888) 999-4747 .

We'll e-mail you a FedEx shipping label (we pay for return shipping).
Check your e-mail for the shipping label and print it within 5 days.
Replace the product in its original packaging and include all items that were originally in the box.
Remove (or cover) any original shipping labels and affix the new label.
Write in bold letters on the package: "RMA [your return material authorization number]".
Take the package to a FedEx location.
Note: You must return the product within 5 calendar days of the issuance of the RMA.

Well, that was weird! My DV9700T replacement shipped today and 10 minutes ago I got a call from a case manager wanting to know how they could help me with the problem I was having with my laptop. I returned that laptop Dec. 31 and my refund posted to my credit card January 2.

Remember I called Friday Dec. 28 and the returns dept. squared everything away, I built a new system and they gave me a bunch of upgrades for the trouble I was having? Well, I had to talk to returns, then tech support (who said a case mgr. would call in 24-48 hours) and then the returns dept. again that day to get the ball rolling -- all in one day and the calls totaled about an hour just because I was returning one laptop and building another.

I'm not sure why a case manager called now, over a week later. I just told them I had been taken care of already. The lady told me to keep her name and # handy in case I have any more trouble and she'd take care of everything for me. I know there are some horror stories about HP's customer service and Consumer Reports doesn't like them very much either but this is the second time in my 15 year history with HP that I've had trouble and both times I've been well taken care of.

qiqiangzhu - Read my post a few posts above. I basically told them the computer specs weren't going to be good enough and that I wanted to return it. Plus I had a faulty DVD drive so I had to talk to technical support to get a service ticket # I could give to returns so it could be checked out when it got back to them. (This did not hold up my refund, though, because I was credited before the laptop even got back to them.)

They set everything up for me -- the FedEx return, I built a new laptop and they gave me some free upgrades because of the inconvenience and I had my credit back to my credit card before the laptop even made it back to them. That's just my experience but I searched this forum for "returns" and found a lot of similar experiences before I returned mine.

I got my notebook Dec 26 2 day early,,yeah im happy with my 9500t but if they did cancel my order and have the 9700t and the coupon was still active then "NB1399" for almost the same price i paid (well bout $50 more) instead of Intel 2.0 ghz i could have gotten 2.2ghz, 8400M i could have gotten 8600 and i thing 10 more gb in the HD.
