    Hi guys.

My brother has got an HP Pavillion dv9000 laptop. When he tries to start the laptop he gets a blue screen with the error message contained in the attached file. When I try restarting and pressing F8 to enter Safe Mode it just continues to this screen.

It started happening after HP requested that he download some new software to his machine. He did so and this problem started. It was a popup on the screen which asked him to install new software.

My brother doesn't know anything about computers so I am trying to troubleshoot it for him.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Any help much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jordan.

Paddy155, I don't think you are pressing the F8 key at the right time.

After you press the power key and begin to boot you will see some information at the bottom of your screen about keys to press. At that time start tapping the F8 key, don't just press it once as you may miss the correct time, your system should boot to the selection screen with options to enter various modes. Select Safe Mode.

If you are able to boot into safe mode perform a System Restore to a time when the system was functioning normally, such as yesterday or before.

You can access the System Restore feature by going to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. Not knowing what OS you are using I gave the full path as it pretty much universal for all Microsoft OS's.

Make sure you include what Operating System you are using when asking for help. It won't make any difference with the F8 issue but helps future diagnostic help.

Well, you're going to have to call HP and order recovery discs for the laptop.

When you turn on your laptop, do you get to see the HP logo screen? Is it saying something like "Press ESC key to enter boot options" or something like that? If it does, press that key to enter the boot menu options, and you would be able to select Safe Mode there (just to make sure that you are indeed unable to enter safe mode)

Alternatively, you can tap F11 (like how you do it with F8) when you boot up your laptop to see if you would be able to get into the Recovery Manager, and from that point you could either do a System Restore (and go back to the date where you believe your notebook is working fine), or you can also do a full system recovery to go back to your computer's factory settings.

The F11 thing should work if you haven't deleted your recovery partition.
