So it does look like the Mini 311 will be replaced by the dm1z with 45nm Neo and HD4200 IGP.

Good choice....hopefully it gets released in the US this time.

looks that way. In other news, this one is a head scratcher, but apparently the dv3 is coming back as well, and it is restyled, similar to the new PCs as seen on the reservation page ( HP® Official Store —Buy HP Laptops, Notebook PCs, Printers, Desktop Computers, Handhelds, Scanners, Monitors, and Calculators direct from HP ) The only thing I can figure is that

    A) this is not going to show up stateside because other than the optical disk drive it is going to be cannibalizing the dm3

    B) its going to be a touch screen but again it would compete against something already in the HP lineup (tm2)

    C) It is eventually going to replace the dm3, I really can't see how these two models can coexist especially after the dm3 replaced it in the first place. Talk about confusion..........

PS: Phinagle where did you get the avatar?

Oh what... the new dv5t has only a 14.5" display... I hope it at least comes with a higher res display, like 1920x1080 or something, the only reason I got the pervious dv5 is because of the 1680 x 1050 res. Kinda lame only the Envy 14 gets the Infinity display (I'm so hoping they fixed the problems with the first one, dust under the screen is annoying but barable).
EDIT: Oh wow, didn't see that the dv6t has a touch option, that should be gimmi...err cool.

You mean 15.4"? If it's 15.4" (16:10), then I'd be all over it, especially if it had a 1920x1200 option!! (15.6" 16:9 FTL)
EDIT: I guess it is 14.5.... I really hope that's a typo on HP's part.... and the fact that it says "HD" tells me that it's a 16:9 display...

I'm surprised at this ... thought the Palm purchase would mean no more convertible tablets and a changeover to new Ipad like devices with the Palm OS.

It's because HP doesn't know how to make good use of the companies that they buy out.

The i5 520 and i5 540 are the same as far as I can tell...perhaps difference in graphics core?

the 540 is slightly faster. base clock on the 540 is 2.53Ghz (vs. 2.4Ghz on the 520) and it also turbo boots to 3.066Ghz (vs. 2.933 on the 520)

I thought he typo'd and was trying to see the difference between the i5-450M (cited in HP documents) and the i5-520M. They both seem to offer the same clock rate. My speculation: The i5-450M might lack VT-d, Trusted Execution and AES instructions as the i5-430M does. I came to this conclusion from comparing the i5-520M and the i5-430M, in regard to general features and capabilities.

The whole reason for an arrandale refresh was due to its power inefficiencies. The I5-450M is one of the first refreshed Arrandales to find its way into a computer. We shall see if there is any improvement.

I was under the impression that Arrandale processors were very power efficient, could someone provide me with some literature that states otherwise? Intel hasn't really commented on the new processors (besides the ULV/CULV -- which are designed for low power) as far as I know.

Selectively deleting information and posts is morally wrong and a no-no in a "public," forum. Indeed, t's not publicly owned but it is a publically accessable and serachable forum; ANYmanipulation is... poor ethics to say the least.

Anandtach discussed problems with the Arrandale power optimization when they reviewed the Asus K42 back in January.

Here is a brief discussion of it ...

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/464512-official-arrandale-timeline-thread-255.html#post6235976

You can probably look up the original article on-line.

    Bronsky

I have a question about the new AMD powered DM1. Anybody know which CPU? Turion II K665 (I hope) Anyone seen benchmarks for the new ATI 4225 integrated GPU? As fast as an Ion? How does it compare to the 13" MBP's Integrated 320M? Is the DM1 aluminum clad? I know ... a lot of questions.

Thank you for the reference. Anyways the relevant information is here:
So does this mean that there will be more choices and the i5-450M is just the start of a bunch of new processors? Great news if it is the case.

[Side note: why would the i5-450M have such extreme jump in Bus/Core ratio 18 to 22 when the i5-430M only goes from 17-19? I have a feeling it will only get up to 20 and thus only 2.66 GHz]

Anandtech, which is generally reliable, said Intel was expecting improved Arrandales around this time... See my previos post, the quote is from their Arrandale review.

    A refresh most likely?

This is the time when most OEMs refresh, just check ASUS, Lenovo, Sony, HP, Dell, Apple, everyone is announcing or launching new models.
